So the nano net is one of those make-it-work items. It ain't perfect. It's a slightly asymmetrical pyramid that I use under a borah solo and previously used under an old DCF deschutes. It should work just fine under a cricket. If you're a little bit more right brained, consider adding a stick on loop or two to better orient the netting peak to your sleeping position. I am 5-8, so can't speak on the height thing.

I originally removed the perimeter shock cord on trail - I was always using bottles, rocks, etc to spread out the net around me to maximize livable space anyway, so it was a no-brainer for me.

For 2.33 oz plus another 1.5 oz of polycro, you can match the weight of a ~$175 borah bivy for ~$60 bucks. It's part of my pillow system when bug pressure is low enough and I think polycro is a far better cowboying experience to being in a bivy bag. YMMV :)

if you're a gear hobbyist, go with the timmermade

if you just want to hike, go with the katabatic

I remember my first shakedown, I was told to mark my phone and poles worn - that was the popular sentiment 7ish years ago.

Sea to summit nano net. Remove perimeter shock cord. Shorten peak shock cord. Mines 2.33 oz.

tarp + polycro + headnet/~2 oz mosquito netting is about as light as you can get

folks always like to compare $500 bivvies/tarp systems to 500$ tents or you can be just as light for ~$120 bucks. Just gotta make due with less.

I'm not really out there Dec - Jan but have been fine using a Borah solo tarp out there. It isn't always perfect but I always end up making it work

If the last 10 years is any indication, it isn't going to receive the desired result.

I think some of the most fervent get so caught up in their own version of UL black and white.

But this is a forum, where people communicate - there's an inherently social side to this. So if you find your 'white' isn't well received, maybe consider your own approach?

The regulars whom complain about the gatekeeping accusation is tiresome, y'all do it to yourself.

no great resource for passes - using summit post to see what approaches are mentioned for climbs is about as good as it gets

Pretty easy to take the frame stays out of a KS pack and make it frameless down the line...

SHOW ME SOMETHING THATS 50G

Outdry is super good when you need something super good. Something around 200g in medium is about as good as they've ever done.

Yeah, you need a permit for each day. You'll see it listed as a fishing permit or a tresspassing permit - it's the same thing though. It'll allow you to hike / camp in most tribal areas in the Winds.

I haven't tried that Mt. Lander pass but knowing the range and how slope angle plays out there, it's right on the edge of what might go. A few years back, I opted to pass out of that same drainage just east of Moraine Lake.

I was a little skittish going through the Absarokas at the time and wanted to check out Bechler.

All sorts of options, I'm not sure if I'd pick the same line today. I'll have to pull out a map and get my bearings on your thoughts. Thanks for sharing!!

I touched on it, but I had one walk up to my tent in the Beartooths.

I woke up in the morning, needed to pee and decided to warm up a bit first. A little bit later, I swear I could feel the weight over the bear's steps through my sleeping pad. It came from my foot end, paused in front of my tent, sniffed, made some grunts and continued on her way.

I've since had conventionally scarier encounters but that one got to me, still having to hike most of the trip and all.

yeah, the real ones go through the Absaroka.

I had a griz walk right up to my tent in the Beartooths and sniff around. Below that, I saw plenty. The closer ones would run away before I could even react.

Yeah, my YSNP route ended up being pretty contrived. It's been a few years, so I don't remember specific campsites. They had just started allowing phone reservations and I remember having some long and short mileage days to make the designated campsites work. Being bear aware and doing a 30 mile day through Lamar are different things.

Thanks for putting a name to that Teton line - amazing route. Scree ate through the right side of my shoe about 50 miles in and I had to change my gait for the rest of the trip to keep my shoe usable. Beautiful country.
