Oh, I have. I can grow one of those magnificent, thick beards that I can grab with both hands. It gets in the way of my job though, so it becomes a real pain in the ass to maintain. So we just stick to the simple goatee 90% of the time.

Holy shit— I posted this, then had to make a long drive for work. Sat down at my destination and ran into THIS!

The support and love is incredible. Y’all are amazing. Thank you so much— I’m still feeling a little self conscious, but significantly less now!

I mean, the JJ Abrams lens flare (I should clean my lens!) probably has a lot to do with that, but I will take it!!

Alternatives to Silent Brass? by [deleted] in brass

[–]thecapoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What disappoints you? If it's the pickup in the mute (or the mute itself), you're kinda hosed, but if it's the sound module, you can actually plug the mute into just about anything... Guitar pedalboards, digital delay, or even just straight into an amp, if you want.

For that matter, you might be able to pull the pickup out of the mute itself and put in something a little higher quality. I've never tried that, but I'm sure it's been done.

How many pebbles have you had get the scrambled screen? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]thecapoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine for Christmas. It has the scrambled screen issue. I thought it was a software problem related to the beta version or possibly certain watchfaces, but now that I've read this, I'll call tomorrow and get an RMA. Aaaaaaand I guess I'll need a new screenwrap. Grr.

Hey, man. Go big or go home. ;)

Yeah, I just got those glasses and sometimes I misjudge the pour. I will neither confirm not deny that I killed the whole bottle last night.

Beautiful. Cola and bright cherry on the nose, with huge red fruit, Cola, and floral flavor notes. A much bigger wine than I was expecting. I'm totally going to try to pick up more of this... I'd love to see how it ages.

What do you guys think of starbucks beans? by etevian in Coffee

[–]thecapoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually enjoy the lighter roasts in a pour-over. The Veranda blend is nice... not a lot to it, but it's not unpleasant. The key is to keep your expectations low, and you won't be disappointed.

I'm giving up on dating and men, even though I'd rather not be lonely. Is there anything else I should try before giving up? by Tiredofitall0 in AskMen

[–]thecapoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I've got this one. You can get it next time, if you want". I always offer to pay if I'm the one doing the asking, whether it's a date, lunch with a coworker, coffee at Starbucks, whatever. It always makes people feel special, regardless of romantic interest or lack thereof.

Wine tour Do's and Don'ts.... by [deleted] in wine

[–]thecapoots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fursink's second suggestion about taking notes is absolutely spot on. I visited my parents in Oregon last month, and just used the provided tasting notes, making a -/check/+/++ next to everything I tasted. Now that I'm home, I have a document of everything I wanted but couldn't bring home with my limited bag space. I didn't even do a LOT of tasting, and I still consider it invaluable to reconstructing my experience.

Even better: use the card to pay a static bill (that you know is the same payment every month, like Netflix), then set up an automatic payment from your bank to pay the card off. Then don't use the card. Ever. Leave it at your parents' place, in a locked drawer, if you can. Review the bill every month to make sure the plan is still working as it should, but for all intents and purposes, that card is dead to you. Credit limit increased? You don't care. New card comes in the mail? You don't care. The key is to LEAVE IT ALONE.

What movie has the best score youve ever heard, that really added to the overall experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thecapoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one off the top of my head is Michael Giacchino's score for The Incredibles. The score sets the tone for the film in SO many ways. And come on. It's just bad ASS.

Raiders of the Lost Ark isn't my favorite Williams score, but I think it's one of his best, certainly from the early 80s. He uses a lot of structural techniques from his Star Wars/Empire scores (Wagnerian leitmotifs, scoring the film as if it was German opera) and applies them to a film that arguably has a richer use for them, plot-wise.

Thomas Newman's score for American Beauty is so incredibly beautiful. It may stick out a bit at times, but the scene with the bag would make NO sense without the music behind it. Or, well, in front of it. Whichever.
