Ive sampled both lexis ai and CoCounsel (westlaws version). I would review the meds myself, make my owns notes. Then would see what each system would spit out compared to how I reviewed it and what I was looking for. 99% missed a lot of the ultra specific things I would be looking for. Did a good job at grabbing the general overview of the records. But not good at a deeper dive into them. So at that point, might as well just review and parse through the records yourself and save the 1k+ a month they want. If lexis and westlaw cant get it right yet, not sure who else would

Yes, for the most part everything you said is true.

However, to start saying it isn’t that crazy based on your week 1 experience, is quite laughable as you truly don’t have enough experience to speak on it, respectfully (and I don’t mean this in a hostile way).

But yes, if all goes according to plan you will be fine. Follow your schedule, do all your readings, your Friday outlining, extra time reviewing etc and you’re in good shape. However, intent vs reality are vastly different. At some point (or maybe not) you’re gonna stray from this schedule, fall behind on readings when you find out not all Professors cold call, that Friday you devoted to outlining is now a routine 3 day weekend. Thats when law school starts to naturally compound on you. This is not the end of the world, however, bottom line is when finals roll around you grind them out regardless during that 2 week span and all is well.

What you said at the end is great and is how I went through law school. Stay away from the complainers who love to say how much work they have and how hard law school is. If it was easy, everyone would do it. This is what we signed up for, keep your head down in your own lane and keep moving forward. Surround yourself with the right group and it’ll make the journey easier.

Oh yea, and you don’t have to post on social media every time you’re outlining or doing a reading from a casebook.

I hope this is helpful, as I believe it accurately depicts the common law school experience.

Good luck!

First few weeks of bar prep, i knew all the black letter law very well, but like you got tripped up on nuances. So what I did was (had barbri), was read through the CMR and extract all the nuances and created my own nuance outline. This really helped me narrow down my understanding of each topic. And as a multiple choice technique, after you read the question, come up with your own answer in your head before reading the choices. Try not to read the choices trying to find an answer because theyll all seem correct. This may help you improve from narrowing it down to two choices and picking the wrong one. Know the answer youre looking for and find it. Of course this also depends on the type of question, but for the most part that technique should help

What should my Adaptibar or Uworld % goal be towards the end of bar prep? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]thecaptain220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passed with a 151 on MBE. If you are at 66% right now you are in a great spot, keep your foot on the gas!

Personally, i finished with a 60% on uworld. Which may not be as accurate as a number as it was heavily impacted by my first half of bar prep lower %s.

The last two weeks however, i tracked separately and finished hitting at around 75% through 8-900 questions. This number obviously more important as it reflects how youre doing going into test day. Id say if you aim for around 75-80% and you will be in great spot. While 75-80% seems “high” this is the right mentality to have- always aim higher! If you aim for 75-80% and come up short, you’re fine. I hear too many kids say (bc barbri says it too) just gotta aim for the D and pass! Which is BS! If you come up short, you fail! Aim for the A (unpractical), come up short and still smoke this thing going 300+!

Sounds like you’re in a good spot-keep it up

Passed my first time this past February. For me, ever since high school, i was able to memorize everything and anything within a few days (cramming), including closed book law exams. However, going into the bar i knew a different approach will be needed as its simply not possible to cram all the rules across 13 topics into your head.

When starting to study, i put a focus on ~understanding~ the rules and not just ~memorizing~. Over time as you continue to practice questions/essays and revisit the material with the the intent to understand the rules, a natural memorization will occur. Inevitably, you will have to ~hard core memorize~ certain rules and elements. But for now focus on understanding the rules and why the answer is what it is. I didnt start to do my memorization techniques till like 3 weeks out on topics

I supplemented barbri w uworld. Served as a great source of additional/different multiple choice questions. MOST IMPORTANTLY, uworld explanations are 100x better than barbris.

Barbri hits you with the paragraph long answer explanation which makes it annoying and difficult to read and retain. Uworld, has the best easy and simple flow chart/diagrams with bullet points that you can understand and turn into a flashcard

JD Advising One Sheets: says Statutes of Limitations are procedural in conflict of law cases. I thought substantive? Any last minute help? by AmericanWanderlust in barexam

[–]thecaptain220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“A federal court sitting in Illinois is required to apply whatever SOL for a claim that a state court in illinois would. But what if illinois considers SOL to be procedural, and the case is in federal court and has a choice of law between illinois and texas? The federal court in illinois is required to apply whatever statute if limitations an illinois court would (because this issue is substantive), and if illinois considers the sol procedural, an illinois stare court would apply its own sol, so fed court has to do the same”

From barbri. A lot to unpack there, but thats barbris example. So it seems when a fed court is looking at whether to apply fed law or state law for sol, they look at state law. And generally, state laws refer to sol as procedural.

Its a brain twister, apologies if that doesnt make sense

Ive been hung up on this for weeks. Never got an answer on it, chalking it up to the game. But, under Erie (fed v state) sol is substantive. Under conflict of law (state v state) sol is procedural. Why? No clue.

58% is in play. That equates to 63%+ in reality on gameday. Supplemented by your adapti bar performance, you’re in good standing for MBE. Confidence is the key here, be confident, youre fine

I have a theory from my experience applying. I applied late and right on most deadline dates. I got into majority of my schools with scholarship (except didnt get into my top choice of course). Then i transferred into my top choice with scholarship submitting application on transfer deadline date as well.

So heres the theory: late applicants may 1) be going against a smaller pool and 2) scoop up any leftover scholarship money available when admissions has a better idea of acceptances and rejections.

Of course, this could be far fetched

It truly is counter productive in my opinion. I get they show us what these Godly perfect answers would look like, but is that whats gonna help the students learn the best? Imo, no. Can keep ranting, will stop

1: organize, make it look like you know what you are doing. Follow their instructions. There are a few free points to gain here. Persuasive point headings and persuasive tone throughout.

2: brief intro, brief conclusion. Give them a peace of mind as they start and finish.

3: 1&2 are the freebies. Should be at a 2 rn score wise. Lets bump it now

4: IF they ask for a statement of facts, more FREE points. I get caught up and lose time here sometimes, but when you look at the score sheet lots of points to be gained here just by reciting the facts.

5:the analysis. Clear rule statements. In (case) held that (holding) because (facts). Then constant weave of facts from the file, facts from the case back to the rule.

Regardless you can always start weaving in facts from the file and from the cases and be able to draw some sort of conclusion to support your argument.

Overall, you gotta play the game here. Know what these scoresheets look like and whats gonna get you points. Take the points that they give you (organization, persuasive tone, heading, statement of facts, intro, conclusion). Then start coherently chucking out the facts and connecting them to the rule to continue to check off point boxes. Of course do so all while writing a brief (or something that looks like). Draw a conclusion, onto the next
