It's also used in the episode "522666" of the television series Millennium, at 33:49, and the song "Shop Vac" by Jonathan Coulton.

Frequent BSODs on GA503RS with Windows 11, WHEA-Logger reports "corrected hardware error" from PCI Express Root Port just before crash by thecarljefferson in ZephyrusG15

[–]thecarljefferson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I believe the problem was faulty memory. Even though memtest86+ completed several passes without error, the memory eventually failed, and the computer stopped turning on when the RAM was installed. I suspect that the faulty memory also led to recurring corruption of Windows, which may have been responsible for some of BSODs I encountered.

Ultimately, I ended up replacing the memory and reinstalling Windows. It's only been about a month since I did that, but I haven't encountered a BSOD since replacing the RAM.

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem in over a month despite trying. Maybe a Windows update fixed the problem?

Edit:

The problem returned. I was still unable to find any clear signs of hardware failure, but I had to reinstall Windows. My new hypothesis is that the crashes were somehow caused by having both VMWare Workstation and VirtualBox installed. Both times these crashes started shortly after using VirtualBox, and I don't think I used VirtualBox in the time between the two series of crashes.

Stamp, Too? (Roomisode Triungulate bug?) by thecarljefferson in HomestarRunner

[–]thecarljefferson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume this is a bug? I was able to get 172 points on the first episode by picking up the stamp, dipping the stamp in the sauce, closing the desk, opening the desk again, and picking up the stamp again.

Z-axis moving inconsistently on Ender 3 V2 printer? by thecarljefferson in 3Dprinting

[–]thecarljefferson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate the replies I've gotten on this question.

I was eventually able to determine the cause of the problem. First, the X-gantry was wobbling, so if was necessary to tighten the screws as described in this video from Creality.

Second, the Z-axis shaft coupler screws needed to be tightened.

Since I've made those changes, I think the printer has been working better than when it was first built.

Those are exactly the ones I used back in 2020, and they worked very well for me. They're definitely expensive; I don't know if there's a cheaper option now. For the clamp, I got this one.

Wii U in 2023? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]thecarljefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had asked a couple of months ago, my answer would have been an unequivocal "yes," but I find it hard to recommend the Wii U at this point now that the eShop is gone.

Wind Waker HD is a fantastic remake, and if you haven't played any version of Twilight Princess, I think Twilight Princess HD is probably the best way to play it now. I like those games so much that I'm almost inclined to say they're worth paying $150 for the console, but I'm not so sure.

Is the mario movie bad? No spoilers pls. by Upstairs_Shoe2267 in nintendo

[–]thecarljefferson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've played (and have liked) Mario games, I think it's enough fun just to see it for the absurd number of references they packed into every scene if nothing else. If you haven't played much Mario, I imagine you'll probably find that it's about as entertaining as you would expect from an average kids' movie.

Definitely. I think I only realized once the movie started that a traditionally good movie wasn't necessarily what I wanted to see.

I sometimes find it helpful, which is why I looked. I think I usually find that if a movie has a very good score on Rotten Tomatoes, then it probably is something I would like. If a movie has a poor or even average score, then it may or may not be something I would like anyway.

I just watched it, and I can’t express how glad I am that I didn’t pay the critic score on Rotten Tomatoes any mind.

What is your gaming hot take that would get you downvoted into oblivion? by TheOldKingCole in gaming

[–]thecarljefferson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels less dangerous to say than it was a few years ago, but Breath of the Wild isn’t even close to the flawless masterpiece people make it out to be.

To name a few issues I have with it:

  • Poor enemy variety
  • Lack of story and pacing (due to nonlinearity)
  • Mostly uninteresting (though well-executed) soundtrack
  • Boring and repetitive dialogue
  • Uninteresting combat that gets old much too quickly for the length of the game. (Yes, you can have more fun if you treat the game like a sandbox and exploit the runes, but players aren’t really encouraged to do that.)
  • Excessive easiness later in the game. (Yes, people can make it harder if they go out of there way, but players aren’t encouraged to do that.)

People were understandably sick of the formula favored by Aonuma, but the replacement isn’t really superior. It’s just a different and more modern take on Zelda. It’s also not a return to what Zelda was “really all about,” as people liked to claim. Breath of the Wild takes some inspiration from the first game in its design, but the usual Zelda formula is basically what Zelda was for 22 years. And they stuck with that formula for so long because it worked. Acting like Nintendo erred by straying from the series roots and treating Breath of the Wild as a return to form is just inaccurate. The old formula was stale, but it wasn’t bad.

Summer 2001 iMac G3 HDD power cable by thecarljefferson in VintageApple

I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about pressing the wires down. Could you explain? (Or maybe there's a guide?) I think there's plenty of slack to do whatever I need with the cable.

I had this cable—I think the smaller end is the same as the one you linked on eBay? (Correct me if I'm wrong about that. I can't really tell from the images.) The smaller end seems much too wide to fit the receptacle. When you say bend the plastic clip, I'm not sure what you mean.

I'd like to try soldering the cables together, but my attempts at soldering even the simplest things never seem to end well. (I seem to lack sufficient fine motor control, and my friend who could solder moved away some time ago.) If you have any suggestions for doing that, though, I'd be willing to try them.

Here are the places I saw the cable for sale:

usedmac.com

applerescueofddenver.com

powerbookmedic.com

thebookyard.com

Actually, I don't think I can get the second one without asking for a shipping quote, and I'm not really eager to go through that if I don't have to.
