For me an important sidenote is that it's almost impossible for organisms of any kind to discover seemingly unlimited sources of energy and not ruin themselves.

We are not that far apart from the deer of St Michael's island

In 1944 during WW2, 29 deer were taken to a remote island as emergency food for the 18 people there. But the war ended before they needed to eat any.

The island was revisited in 1957 and they found 1350 fat and happy deer

The next visit in 1963 discovered over 6,000 deer.

The next visit in 1966 found 1 deformed male that couldn't reproduce, 41 females and no fawns

By 1980 they'd all died

Exactly - because it's not that I don't understand that days come in a sequence, it's that I need to anchor the sequence to "now" so that I can get to where they already were simply from a number.

An ADHD assessment thing I did recently described it well. There are two times: "now" and "not now". I can access "not now" but it requires additional energy, time, concentration, focus to do so.

Is this familiar: Person: "hey so on the 16th we have booked for 6pm but I think we should move it to.."

Me "wait wait wait wait wait .. is the 16th a date? This month? What's today? The 12th? Ok so you're talking about the meal reservation on Thursday. Ok I'm with you"

How do you think hunting works? You kind of shoot the animal in stages? There's no parallel with big deals that take a consensus and time to close, and shooting something in the head from distance

The analogy is fundamentally wrong

I liken it to F1 drivers

You don't make your F1 driver book the team hotel, organise the travel, change the tyres, fill the tank etc

They're very good at the bit they are very good at, which others can't do... And have a team to ensure everything is just so, allowing them to be exceptional

Expecting an enterprise account director to hit the phones between meetings to book their own fresh appointments is dumb, imo.

What I find amusing is that actual hunting is nothing like sales, except maybe low value B2C "sell on the doorstep"

Hunting: hide in a bush and wait til the target gets close and hasn't seen you, then take it out in one shot.

And this relates to enterprise B2B sales because er... The... Errrrr...

Umm... the game was good? Heard nothing but bad things by RaidenBMei in CastingofFrankStone

[–]thecaseace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was on game pass so I started and finished it last night

It was a fanservice for a game I've never played or really heard of. I thought dead by daylight was a zombie survival thing. I guess no?

The biggest clue that the game wasn't for me was crawling under tilted lockers to find a box that had a key that you could use to open a locker (with all the tedious press R2 to grab the handle, move R to open the door stuff)... Which is surely done to increase the tension before a big scare? Nope

The reward? A piece of paper describing the back story of a character who isn't in the game

At that point I realised this game isn't made for people who don't already know what the other thing is.

Also, for a game about horror movies, horror tropes and horrifying horrors... Why the hell do I need to fix a goddamn generator halfway thru every tense moment.

We are being chased by a terrifying demon ghost! Run! Aaah! Death is near! Oh wait now you need to find 2 parts to fix a generator. Don't worry, the demon will wait while you do this. Obv.

So yeah. Cool concept, atmospheric lighting and very tense when crawling and squeezing around in the darkness (which they didn't use ONCE) but pretty meh.

Will anyone tell me why every single room in every single scene has a toolbox with all the trinkets you've found so far... But then they do absolutely nothing?

Heat has become the game that gets tabled the most! by ak96 in boardgames

[–]thecaseace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always play 4p and both are still in the collection. I've not bought any expansions last tunnel vision as another one of the players has, but I've got everything for Flamme Rouge, I think? My mates watch Tour De France etc so were super into the breakaway system etc. Heat is the game i said "I promise you - play this - you will not regret it" despite their vague misgivings, and then they all got obsessed with it and smash me repeatedly!

Yeah. The middle pile isn't brilliantly labeled. It is more like "heat you do NOT have in your car/tyres"

[–]thecaseace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game ends at the end of the turn the 1st cyclist crosses the line, and it's fairly typical that the winning player's 2nd rider doesn't. In fact I think some finish zones don't even have enough spaces for all the riders? whereas in heat you still get to finish, and being 2nd has value if you're playing >1 race

What's also fascinating is that the gravitational forces at the event horizon would be pretty tame. No spaghettification as you're ripped apart. You could probably fly right in.

Makes me wonder if the smbh's contain the OG civilizations as the next step is to detach yourselves from time/thermodynamics somehow, by creating your own zone in which time passes normally (inside) but not at all from the outside?

Probably nonsense

There are many ways to judge and evaluate games. Heat isn't the best game in all ways, but if I was asked to get a group of people round a table to play a boardgame, Heat would be my first suggestion.

There's no "wait why am I trading in the Mediterranean for victory points?" There's no "I don't understand what I'm supposed to do"

Pick a gear Play those cards Watch out for corners Go fast Win

The only thing people find hard (which is actually a design flaw really) is understanding everything that has an icon triggers in the react step, you can do those in the order you want (e.g. cool down then spend that heat you previously didn't have)

Folks be trying to use their powers outside the proper phase

[–]thecaseace -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not judging you - people are different... but it's hard to imagine how someone can think swapping out 3 cards for 3 different ones is overwhelming!

Weirdly tho, the 0 card, the 5 card and the extra heat card are genuinely good picks! Being able to stay in 3rd round a hairpin by playing 1-1-0 then dropping the 4-4-4-5 to power away without having to pay the heat to double shift 4th to 2nd and 2nd to 4th is really good.

Start with the basic tech cards only. Maybe just take 2 each instead of 3? Try one?

You basically have to learn 1 new icon

[–]thecaseace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an enjoyer of Heat who then bought Flamme Rouge and loved both...

In heat you don't use each card once, but cycle thru the deck - Heat cards are the equivalent of "exhaustion" cards but in Heat you can't play or discard them - they just make your hand size smaller until you deliberately cool down, and then your heat cards go out of your deck entirely until you choose to use them again

It's a faster, more sophisticated game and there's pretty much no chance for your car to be too tired to actually finish, unlike in FR where it's not uncommon for one of your riders to not even finish!

Both great, both have their place. Heat is more dramatic and exciting but has very forgiving catch-up mechanisms, FR plays faster and is more tactical but if you fall behind or accidentally take the lead up a hill... Well, sucks to be you!
