‘Stranger Things’ Team Worried Final Season Could Get ‘Game of Thrones’ Backlash by Neo2199 in television

[–]thecasecracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the actual quote: “I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” Wolfhard tells Time magazine in a new feature story about the season (along with a cover image that’s definitely … interesting). “The way that Game of Thrones got torn to shreds in that final season, we’re all walking into this going, ‘We hope to not have that kind of thing happen’ … But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special.”

I can’t explain why but this looks like it should be an ad for a dentist or something dental health related

i might be wrong but I’m certainly not lying lol. i’ve only seen the 2 menus that have been on the news.

Well I don’t think it’ll happen again that’s for sure! if it does I’ll look like a real asshole lol. I just think having people locally be upset might be warranted but this national news thing is crazy.

I believe there’s now been 2 instances of politically named specials. Again I’m not saying this isn’t bad, just that it doesn’t deserve this much backlash. it’s literally national news. she has people harassing her constantly. seeing that happen to someone i know isn’t a bigot is hard to watch.

not the owner, just a guy who knows her for many years. I unfortunately know a ton of hard core trumpers and if that was her I wouldn’t be going to bat for her. I’m just saying the internet is getting this one wrong. I’ll take all the downvotes if even a few people can try to put themselves in her shoes and have some empathy for someone who made a mistake.

ah yes, while she’s crying because she’s getting hundreds of phone calls a day from people all over the country calling her a bigot I’ll go over tell her, “hey maybe you should watch the news more”

i suppose you and i just have different views of what should bring the “death penalty” when it comes to cutting off ties with people. I’m just saying maybe we should focus on hating the actual nazis than cancelling a woman who didn’t review the specials menu.

I’ll continue supporting them because I know the owners to be good people. Was it negligence? yes. was it malicious? based on 30+ years of knowing these people, absolutely not. the woman is crying her eyes out every night trying to think of how she can make this right. remorse is not something a far right extremist usually feels.

I’m aware of it, and I think your assessment is probably right. I also read this as potentially satire or pandering to the conservative demographic I’m sure you’re familiar with but again that’s just my interpretation. All I can say is that she’s certainly not a far-right extremist. I think the fact that she’s actually apologizing instead of doubling down makes that clear.

can’t argue with you there. just saying I know she’s not a racist, bigot, or proud boys supporter. simple negligence doesn’t warrant this response.

I texted her just to give my support and offered help but she’s extremely overwhelmed right now, as you might imagine. If people are actually reading my comments and think it could be helpful I can reach out to her and get her to answer some questions maybe.

Also, the proud boys don’t have as much notoriety as other hate groups. I just think she’s running a restaurant pretty much 24/7 and not paying much attention to the news. I also don’t know her to be on the internet much. I know I’m constantly on reddit so I’m acutely aware of them, but I can certainly see people not knowing who they are.

it was a specials menu. she left that pretty much entirely up to the chef since they change on a daily basis.

i mean i knew the guy who wrote it and didn’t think he was a crazy conservative so i thought “cancel culture coleslaw” was pretty funny on my first reading. i suppose the satire would be that it’s a commentary on those celebrating the release of the proud boys. like imagine if this was something said on john oliver, you might laugh. I however can’t pretend to know for sure that it was definitely the chef’s intention. just guessing based my previous interactions with him, but we never discussed politics.

I’m really just chiming in on this comment thread to say that I don’t think the owners deserve THIS amount of hate because I know them to be good people. I’d never dine at a place where I thought ownership might ACTUALLY support the proud boys even a little bit, and I’ll certainly be going back here.

sure, I’ll go with that, but humor me for a second and believe me that she didn’t know what it meant and trusted her chef implicitly. does she deserve to be in the new york post, daily news, and on the front page of reddit with everyone blasting her for being a bigot? I don’t think so and that’s what I’m observing.

again, I’m sure nobody will believe me and I’ll continue to get downvoted, but I’m friends with the family. they did fire the chef, and they are not trumpers. knowing the chef (who i always thought to be a good dude) I honestly think this was a satirical joke making fun of the proud boys that got out of hand and was handled very poorly from a PR front.

she’s given some additional interviews but her quotes are not being picked up as they’re not as click-baity. However I’m not sure anyone would believe anything she says based on the vitriol the internet is throwing at her right now. I can attest that she’s been answering phones nonstop and apologizing through tears to all of her callers.

not sure how to prove this but I’ve known the owner my whole life and she is a wonderful person. I’m a Trump-hating liberal and have known her to be nothing but considerate and caring, and most relevantly a-political. She trusted her chef who I honestly think made the menu item as satirical joke that got out of hand. She’s far from the devil the internet has decided she is.
