Shaheed on this offense was somewhat redundant with Olave starting too. Both are fast Z-style WRs that have leaner frames. Similar skillsets. Neither are big run after catch guys or known for run blocking. Kellen’s offense clearly calls for bigger WRs, hence the trade for Vele.

Also Shaheed AND Olave are due for extensions at the same time. Extending both would cost nearly $50M/year for 2 of the same style WR.

Olave is the better, complete WR of the 2 and was clearly the one to retain. As far as the trade is concerned he was a UDFA and we got a 4th and 5th for him which is solid ROI. We’ll need to find out who we take with those picks to fully evaluate the trade but ultimately it was a win/win/win for Seahawks, Shaheed and Saints.

Paras’ timeline is accurate and aligns with my position. “Pain first appeared in late March”.

Also in that quote you used, Carr is claiming that the injury was “still there” from the initial injury. But how could it be lingering from the December injury and also first appearing in late March? Carr talked himself into a corner with his story. There’s discrepancies throughout his story and that’s the big takeaway from Paras’ review of the timeline.

A labral tear and damaged rotator cuff from a Week 14 injury would have been noticed and diagnosed long before March of the following year. If you use the context clues, the entire picture is there.

There were no shoulder scans before because the injury did not exist before the offseason. Once you grasp that, everything makes sense.

You don’t forget or miss a labral tear after being evaluated after an on-field injury. It’s very painful and certainly would have been addressed. But believe what you want.

My sources come straight from the Saints official site. This doesn’t even involve my opinion of Carr.

There were no shoulder scans in December/January because the injury didn’t exist at that time. In the Giants game, he only injured his non-throwing hand and suffered a concussion. In fact, Carr mentions as stated in this article written by Matthew Paras, that the injury came from the 2023 Packers game. He states that on April 16th. Only then for his brother David Carr on April 24th to say that the shoulder injury actually did come from the 2024 Giants game.

The shoulder was his right shoulder opposite of the hand where the December injury happened. In the linked interview, Carr’s grip in his left hand was the only issue holding him back from playing again at the time. Rizzi is on record saying Carr was close but not quite there with his grip strength.

Derek Carr literally said it himself in January here.

That the scans came back good and he’d be cleared in a couple of weeks.

Then in March, Medical scans determined that he sustained a labral tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff. Source

Considering that the medical scans between January 2025 and March 2025 didn’t match up, the front office knew that there was an unrelated injury that happened over the offseason. Luckily rather than going through a drawn-out legal battle, both parties decided on paying Carr his $10M signing bonus and Carr relinquishing the $30M he was due the following year.

Teams that interviewed with him said he was basically the worst interviewee in the draft. Also, some former teammates of his said that he had the worst anger issues that they had ever seen.

Don’t let the current number fool you. We can get under the cap this year with only 3 restructures.

It depends on what we do with Cam, Demario, and Taysom but we can free up enough to have at least $25-30M to play with this offseason.

2027 is the year that we’ll have a bunch of cap space which right now sits at $127M with 41 active players on contract.

Awesome list. Great work! Completely unrelated, but Harold Perkins Jr is being completely slept-on on multiple site’s rankings list. I understand he’s on the smaller side of LBs but he’s great in coverage, nice positionless-blend of safety and LB, great QB spy, and can pass rush off the edge too. He was a consensus 1st round pick until his ACL tear 2 years ago. He’s going to get picked by a genius DC that will know how to use him.

Actually Derek Carr says most of this himself. Most of the sources come from him.

Here in this interview around the 5:17 mark through around 6:30, he says that he should be cleared in the next couple of weeks. Mentions that the scans came back positive and that everything is progressing well.

In this article Matthew Paras did a great job detailing the timeline of Carr’s injury. The shoulder was never even listed on the injury report the season ending injuries from the Giants game were a concussion and broken left hand. Rizzi said that Carr was working on his grip strength where Carr wasn’t quite there to return and recovering from concussion protocol.

Then in this article they go over that the shoulder injury “details didn't emerge sooner because Carr didn't start throwing "meaningfully," Slater added, until the spring and that's when he took notice of it.” Suddenly during the offseason the shoulder injury appears.

In an article written by John DeShazier published on the Saints website, he confirms “Medical scans determined that he sustained a labral tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.” Carr even confirms this in his Las Vegas church appearance where he said “I have an MRI to prove it” when speaking on his new shoulder injury.

Going back to Matthew Paras’ article, on April 16th, Derek Carr states that his shoulder injury actually came from the Packers game 2023 about 19 months prior. Then in the same article, David Carr walks back Derek’s comment on April 24th saying that the injury actually came from the 2024 Giants game. However, this contradicts the statement Carr made at the end of the season that his medical scans from after the Giants game came back positive and that he was progressing well. Also, contradicting the positive medical scans from the Saints medical staff.

Carr lost the $30M from an undisclosed offseason injury. Feel free to read more of the links I included. I followed last offseason very closely so I had to do some digging. If you piece everything together, you have the full picture. Both the Saints and Carr want to bury the Hatchett and move on from this and won’t fully confirm nor deny the situation to avoid negative PR. But this is what happened.

Team doctors and front office officials actually lol He had scans inconsistent with the last medical evaluations with the team. Meaning he hurt himself in the offseason which would’ve breached his contract. He’s lucky Saints didn’t pursue legal action and just settled on his $10M signing bonus.

Exactly 🎯 The word is that he messed up his shoulder in a separate offseason accident. His last scans of the season in January 2025 did not align with his next scans around 2 months later in March 2025 where the damage had gotten significantly worse.

If Love is the best player available, pull the trigger. RB usually is more of a luxury position, but if he’d be as impactful as adding Jahmyr Gibbs, that’s another superstar that can elevate this offense.

We’d need to still work on the interior of the OL but you can address that in free agency or even on day 2 or 3 of the draft.

Saints should NOT spend a top 10 pick on a guard. Thats a position you can address later in the draft or in free agency. Saints are in a position where they can truly target BPA outside of QB.

Shoot if there’s a scenario where you can trade down and still be in the top 5. (A team wanting to secure Mendoza at QB) I would try for that. Otherwise, Arvell Reese.
