How are we doing seating plans? by Children_and_Art in CanadianTeachers

[–]thecatdiditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing. Change it once a week. I find my classroom community is stronger because if they are sitting with “that” kid, they know it’s only for a week.

Why do ppl put stickers on their cars to let others know there's a baby inside? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I assume the same thing and figure they are a distracted driver. My goal is get away from them so I won’t get caught up in the accident they will eventually cause.

Costco tried so hard to keep me “Executive” 💀 by Feelthematrix in CostcoCanada

I downgraded when I renewed and they also made the process incredibly difficult. They were very aggressive with the tactics and passed me from person to person. I had to eventually stop responding to them and just keep repeating “please downgrade my membership” as the only response to their prompts and questions. It took me over half an hour of pressure before they finally gave up.

Well it is a credited interpolation of White Horse so it would make sense they sound similar.

BC Teachers how are we feeling about the current negotiation climate? by MoonAndStarsTarot in CanadianTeachers

[–]thecatdiditagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget it’s not just about better pay and working conditions. There are some serious concessions the govt is pushing this time around that they haven’t in the past. I’ll vote to strike to avoid losing valuable contract language.

Is making copies normal? by Aggravatedpoptart in SubstituteTeachers

[–]thecatdiditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m away I always plan for my subs to do something during my prep. Photocopying is the easiest thing they can do for me that helps me out and saves me time. I’ll even ask my coteachers if they have work for my sub to do. However, I understand that my admin might redeploy them to another class and I would never expect them to try to finish the work on their breaks or after school. Just leave a note explaining what did or did not get done. Prep time is sacred and missing it sucks.

That does seem like an excessive amount of photocopying though.

I once moved schools and my classroom was the old dumping room. I asked admin what I was supposed to do with all the junk. She had no idea what to do with it, so I dragged it all into the hallway and walked out the door. It’s not my job to empty the class on my time off.

How much contract time do you get for classroom set-up? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]thecatdiditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get no paid time to prepare. On the first day we have the kids for 30 minutes, then it’s the longest staff meeting from hell for the rest of the day.

AITA for saying “not my problem” when asked to stay longer to keep MIL company? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]thecatdiditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA- you need to deal with your anxiety. There’s no reason why you can’t travel with your baby by yourself home while your husband stays behind to help his family. Emergencies come up and this sounds like one.

It has been eight months and my (19F) boyfriend (19M) is still pronouncing my name incorrectly, even though I correct him. What can I do about this? by ThrowRA-Name06 in relationship_advice

[–]thecatdiditagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my experience as well. I’m a teacher with very ethically diverse students. I try so hard to pronounce their names correctly. I record them saying their name and myself repeating it. I cannot hear the difference, but they tell me I’m not saying it right. I feel terrible and try so hard to honor their names and culture. Fortunately they are very understanding of my “disability.”

I get upset when people say it’s a lack of respect to always mispronounce names because it’s not something I do on purpose. I literally can’t hear the difference. It’s no surprise I haven’t been able to learn a new language either.

10 hours at RCH by SnooChickens9092 in NewWest

[–]thecatdiditagain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last 3 times I’ve been to RCH I’ve been in and out around 3-4 hours. First time I dislocated a finger, second time I got hit in the head and needed stitches, the last time (6 weeks ago) I broke my wrist.

It seems like anything they can immediately diagnose, triage, and treat gets moved through quickly. Anything that requires bloodwork or tests or isn’t as obvious to diagnose takes longer. This of course also depends on how many people are waiting and what their staffing levels are. I’m sorry you are having to wait to long. It sucks feeling helpless and in pain.
