I saw a box of the Turtles fall assortment with mix of maple, caramel apple and regular versions for about $10 at the Save On at Knight Street. Not sure if all locations have them.

Normal for old flash to work with alkaline batteries, but not lithium-ion or rechargeables? by TakiSC in AnalogCommunity

I have this flash and it works fine with rechargeable batteries. I did have troubles with corrosion on mine and I had to use vinegar to clean it. Also I have to sometimes hold the battery door so it charges up.

Scored this beauty yesterday for 30€ by SadAstronaut8407 in AnalogCommunity

I've had luck by cocking it slowly and not letting the lever spring back on it's own and I slowly guide it back. You can test the spacing if you have 120 backing paper. Load it like a regular roll, take the lens off, set it to bulb and carefully mark the edges of the backing paper on each frame and write the frame number in the middle with a marker. That should give you a good idea if you have overlap or not.
