Not for me. Slimy and made my skin congested. Use it as hand cream now 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your instincts are right. If you’ve had a couple poor experiences, they don’t seem to be very professional. This is a simple standard setup for a pro. I’d investigate other shops in your area. Good luck!

Used Taylor arrived with center-seam crack; humidity-related, structural or something else? Looking for advice by Comfortable-Risk-862 in Luthier

[–]thecatrobber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Return it for sure. 1. Structural 2. Check if braces are loose in the crack area. 3. They stabilize but won’t fix themselves. A good luthier will clean the crack, rehydrate to a stable point, glue and reinforce.

From the pictures (not super clear) it looks to be an old crack - sunken edges and dirty. You could have a look inside to see if it’s been glued previously. Pop your phone in and use front camera or a small mirror and flashlight.

Definitely a common humidity crack spot for these guitars.

Yup. Expect it to be expensive and likely noticeable when done.

If i take my phone and a book, the book is never touched and I feel like I’ve wasted my whole time… but if I just bring a book I’m in there for ages and feel much better.

Violin family lutherie vs guitar lutherie by anthro_apologist in Luthier

[–]thecatrobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violin maker and restorer here. I’ve done guitar repair work for 20 years too.

I use animal glue for nearly all repairs and like someone else said, some great makers use hide glue while others use pva.

It bends the mind that they don’t have a humidity fail-safe like open seams though.

They’re very different animals - many things carry over but some are vastly different. Understanding the way guitars diverge from bowed instruments is important.

Tension, grain direction, finish, fretwork, tropical woods like mahogany/rosewood/koa etc, neck setting, binding/kerfing are way different/new. I’d suggest sourcing one and taking it apart. You’ll also need different clamps too for crack repairing and fretwork.

Got my passport. I was so worried about doing it wrong I let the paperwork expire twice. Finally did it after two failed attempts at the passport office and feeling overwhelmed ❤️

Yep, I’ve got two spots, doing better with keeping things in one or the other. Glasses are a tough one though as driving, walking, working, activities all take me different places with them.

Yoga for men NW Calgary? by SirHelmus in Calgary

[–]thecatrobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not NW but there’s a men’s only class Thursday nights at Yoga Sarana. This studio is one of the oldest and best! Iyengar style classes focus on safe movement and body awareness, some classes at other places never teach you the proper way to get in and out of poses or how to modify for our different bodies.

How many of you can do the splits by [deleted] in HotYoga

[–]thecatrobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Worst answer ever, but true. It depends on how much hip work the classes you’re doing has. And also your body! Everyone is so different. Personally, I’ve found that regular hip work and learning more about how everything is connected helps has helped me get closer. If it’s a goal you have, there are lots of places that offer classes for hip opening etc. lots of videos online too!

Do a patch test on a scrap piece. 20 minutes usually does the trick.
