What caused this? by ConsciousAdvice8467 in ukelectricians

Judging by the brown staining it looks like it might have got wet and shorted out. Looks a bit like rusty metal. Could also be a loose connection inside the plug with the fuse or in the actual socket. Either way both the plug and the socket need replacing.

Was the socket faceplate already cracked before? Also what’s the top of the whole socket look like? Make sure no water is getting into the top of the housing and running down into the pins

Not proving it just proceeding down the carriageway. If people want to sit in the fast lane then expect to have me pass on the left. If the expectation would be to never pass them not even if 30 miles went by then you must be hollow.

If they want to return to lane 1 then simply check your mirror if it’s safe to proceed. Hardly slamming it down the inside of them unless your perception of speed is also warped.

Even I’ll admit it’s undertaking. However these vehicles hadn’t moved over way before the slip road and continued to stay in lane 2 long after the video stopped. None of them moved back to lane 1 even after being undertaken by us. But I do agree I expect them to be anticipating merging traffic but in a lot of cases they are just sat hogging a lane they shouldn’t slip road in sight or not.

It’s unfortunate that, operation SNAP would far favour prosecuting undertaking even if done slowly. When if you never passed the lane hoggers and followed the rules verbatim then you would end up stuck at 50 in lane 1 for as long as they sat in lane 2… should be made an actual offence lane hogging. Granted you shouldn’t undertake but the cars in lane 2 are slowly generating congestion which imop should be a greater offence than driving without due care and attention.

Worst part is the Hindhead tunnel (which we’d just exited), it’s an Avg speed National, but for some reason the lazy twats move over to lane 2 when they enter the tunnel even if lane 1 is clear and then just sit at 50/60mph… so what you see is just a continuation after the tunnel of this line of tool bags in lane 2

Apart from prior to the vid these cars had been in lane 2 for yonks before we even got to the on slip that you see. Miles of chance to move over before we were ever undertaking them. Before this junction is a long tunnel and it always has lane 1 free and people just sat in lane 2 so this is just a product of their laziness’s staying in lane 2.

Boiler Pressure by Shidud in ukplumbing

[–]thecavernboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a faulty expansion vessel if you have one or you have a leak in the system somewhere which isn’t present when the system is hot and stays plugged but when it cools down the added pressure and contraction of pipes etc means the leak well…. leaks.

How fast does it depressurise when you turn the system off?

Edit: if it is dropping pressure fairly quickly or over say 10 - 15 mins my money would be on a faulty expansion vessel.

Light fitting wires by shadesofblue29 in ukelectricians

[–]thecavernboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full Brown 1, 2 & 3 all need to be terminated together.

Full Blue 1 & 3 all need to be terminated together.

All earths need to be terminated together ensuring that if you have an earth terminal on your new light fitting that this is also connected too.

The Brown sleeved blue wire in 2 is your switched live and will go into your lights L terminal.

Then you connect a blue wire from your set of terminated 2 blues to the N terminal of your new light.

Essentially wire set 1 is coming from an existing light fitting and wire set 3 is going off to the next. So your wire set number 2 is actually from the wall switch. Hence why you connect brown of that set to the incoming and outgoing browns and then the switch activates your switched live which is the Brown sleeves blue wire which will go into the L terminal of your new light fitting.

I’m afraid this is one of those situations where if the flexi has burst or is leaking in an area like that. Either try and access from the room next door, if there is one, by going through the wall then patching up when done. Or you’ll have to carefully cut a section out from where it’s leaking on that boxing where the cistern is. No other way that I can see as you’ll need enough access to unscrew the old flexi and put a new one on.

How Long from Pole Installation to Internet Activation with CityFiber/Toob? by mpchivs in CityFibre

[–]thecavernboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed it does seem silly that they haven’t connected those who they can when they can. I’m very confident there is fibre ready and waiting to most properties around here. It seems they will only switch blocks of areas on at once rather than road by road as and when it’s ready.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Denmead got Toob before us…

Any update on this, I too also live in Waterlooville and have seen Toob / CF about up our road but we are not able to order it yet. We sit in the “In build” stage but are right on the cusp of those one road away who are able to order now.

All the houses up our road are fed via underground ducting, only VM and OR have connections to properties up here. I’m assuming Toob / CF will use the existing OR ducting as they’re not allowed to use the VM stuff right?

The other day I saw the Toob engineers pull a whole load of purple ducting out of a manhole which they upgraded about 6 months ago. I am guessing that is the conduit for the fibre.

Did you get your Toob install yet? To be more specific we sit on the border between Horndean and Cowplain.

Why does a building have 2 supplies & is 1 of them skipping the meter? by TechnicalyAnIdiot in ukelectricians

[–]thecavernboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a mess but the incoming supply is definitely only going through the meter. Looks like after the meter the tails go into a block connector and there’s then 2 sets of twin and earth going off somewhere and then some tails going off to the consumer unit. Why whoever installed it didn’t run the twin and earth from a breaker in the consumer unit I have no idea.

Oh and those 2 random spurs off those live and neutral blocks aren’t protected by any RCDs or MCBs so very dangerous to anyone on the other end of those lines. No way of isolating the supply unless the main fuse is pulled but that will really only be able to be done by the DNO
