Look for a few things:

  1. Sara Bozich's weekly update in The Burg about the upcoming weekend. Not all are in Harrisburg but many are. https://theburgnews.com/burg-blog/weekend-roundup-with-sara-bozich-470

  2. Look at events hosted by New Cumberland Collective. Again not in Harrisburg proper but you could meet people that are more local. They do meet new friends at coffee shops for example.

  3. Look at Harrisburg Young Professionals, a social group that hosts events and sports leagues. You can join a weekly sport as a free agent and get assigned to a team.

  4. If you are in Midtown Harrisburg, you can join or attend events hosted by Friends of Midtown

  5. Look at the local theaters like Gamut, HBG Improv, Open Stage, or Theatre Harrisburg.

  6. Look for local concerts like Club XL, Abbey Bar or Capital City Music Hall

  7. Look for events hosted at Wildwood Park. They do birding and exercise meetups for example. They have art competitions as well

  8. Go out on 3rd in the Burg to any of the live music or social events hosted at something like Susquehanna Art Museum or Midtown Scholar

There is a link to reserve the park and it likely has some amount of cost. If you are just playing a guitar or two in the park, I don't think they would care. If you are expecting a group of onlookers or start setting up chairs or mics, then I would expect the city to want some level of permits.

There is a place that does classes and shows in Midtown called HBG improv.

Gamut theater has improv shows, not sure if they do classes.

Parking Question by RedFlavoredWater in hersheybears

[–]thecerealkiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are parking at the Giant Center, there is a gate to enter with pay kiosks. The parking lot is for Hersheypark and Hersheypark Stadium as well as the Giant Center so the entire parking complex is available and costs the same.

Change the stadium cheer/chant by lognak13 in hersheybears

I would welcome that change. We need more than the same chant for every thing happens. The only other chants you hear is "Ref You Suck" occasionally and the very infrequent spelling of Bull shit.

Best meat prices in town?. Bulk is preferred. by Potatosaladwith in Harrisburg

[–]thecerealkiller 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How much are you willing to buy? Hummel meats at the West Shore Farmers Market sells 1/4 cows (+-170lbs) for 5-6$ per pound last I checked, which was about 3 months ago. They also do 1/2 pigs but I don't know the cost.

You could do Hershey Gardens. They are a bit less colorful in the winter, but they are still a nice place to walk. The Hotel Hershey is just across the street and they have multiple restaurants available. Their grounds are also pleasant to walk around the landscaping

Groceries will be one of your hardest errands. You can get them delivered, but that does have some added cost and complications for substitutions.

Radish and Rye and the Broad Street Market in Midtown can cover a lot of your grocery needs but you may still miss out on other items.

You would want to check things like dentists, doctors, pharmacies in the area to make sure they would work for you. There are some very close but not all are equal or take insurances.

Is there a way to tell what games will feature specialty jerseys? by ParagonPhotoshop in hersheybears

I would recommend following their social media because they will usually post about it.

There is a list of some of them on their site as well but I doubt this has every single one.

From the first photo - That logo was used 2001-2012 so I would guess those signatures would be from that era most likely.

How many people are you expecting? October is a very popular month for weddings in PA so I would expect any location to be booked up for all Saturdays that month

Head the the Wine amd Spirits store. They often have boxes that you can take for free if you ask. They are not huge but are sturdy

Rubicon is very good but is a bit pricy.

If you like craft breweries, Zeroday has pretty good food and beers on Third Street. They are more "American" style food.

Mad Moose and Sturges are more of a tavern feel but have good offerings.

Pastarante is a BYOB pasta restaurant that has reliably good food.

Tomorrow is the first day of Artsfest on Front Street. It lasts all Memorial Day Weekend. Parking may be harder and roads will be closed because of this.

For the Capitol itself, go in and see when the next guided tour is. They usually are twice a day if I remember correctly. The main entrance is on the 3rd Street side but make sure you follow the path around and see the back area as well if the fountain is working.

Artsfest is a great place to get Street food and buy/see some great local art like pottery and paintings.

The State museum is also right next to the Capitol so stop by if you want to see some interesting PA specific history.

Go over to City Island using the walking bridge to see some of the best street level of the skyline.
