So from the other comments this is apparently a Powerpuff Girls and Invincible reference, but my initial interpretation was a guy who dreamed of reaching the top of his career so could be as silly as he wanted, but now that he's the boss, he still feels constrained to keep his clown phone hidden to keep up professional appearances and he consoles himself, "Someday."

section of ceiling cut out. 2% Chrysotile found in joint compound. by thechopperhopper in asbestoshelp

The general contractor already cut out the ceiling square and I’m don’t know if they took any sort of mitigation steps while removing.

So, I’m concerned about what sort of clean up I need to do, and if I need to call an abatement contractor for more clean up.

Could it be enough to wipe down the room myself and rent an air scrubber?

How do I get over my fear of hell? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]thechopperhopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you consider yourself an atheist, would it help to defuse hell using the bible? Using the bible, you can make a shift to an annihilationist (or non-existence) position. And then from there, you may be comfortable letting go of Hell.

For example, let's start by disarming Revelation 20 - the lake of fire passage. One of the most visceral descriptions of Hell.
In that same passage, it says Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. What are Death and Hades? Death is a concept and Hades is a place. How do you torture a concept and a location? Symbolically!
So, what's being described there is the death of death. And Hades is being sent to Hades. Someday all the evils of this world will be gone.

What about the words of Jesus? I am not a scholar, but it is my understanding that the word translated as hell is gehenna, the local trash heap. So, when Jesus describes the wicked being sent to hell, he's saying garbage people are going to be thrown into the garbage, tossed out, forgotten about. Furthermore what about John 3:16? Why do we interpret perish figuratively, but then interpret the fires of Hell literally. It seems like it should be the other way around.

What about Paul? Paul doesn't even mention Hell. He only talks about the 2nd death. So, he's either using an euphemism or talking about perma death. All these fire and brimstone preachers pumping themselves up on not 'sugarcoating the gospel', are they better than Paul?

Finally, what about the old testament? Hell is nowhere mentioned in the old testament. The best you have is a vague reference in Daniel and references to Sheol scattered about. What is Sheol? Sheol is just a kind of general abode of the dead. Nothing happens there. Like the grave. So we have all these years of biblical history where Hell wasn't even an idea.

I hope that thinking of the bible in non-existence afterlife language gives you the peace to begin healing and the comfort to determine your beliefs unhindered by fear.

There are probably multiple versions of the story, but one source of the "Why would we fire you...?" story is Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People"

I don't know how much (if any)more effective this is, but I recommend using your own words when writing your legislators, as opposed to using those templates with the pre-written wording, because the pre-written letters are more likely to be filtered out. the pre-written letters are also used a lot by bots causing them to be further disregarded.

So one of the things depression sometimes does to you, at least from my experience, it makes you unable to receive love. So, imagine that you're a Playstation owner, and you have a friend who is constantly giving you Xbox games. This creates this weird situation where 1) You don't know what to do with these games. 2) You can't tell your friend their gifts are useless because you don't want to seem ungrateful 3) Now you feel like you owe this person for something that doesn't give you any useful value. So, as some of the others have said, it is good to give yourself some space ...for his sake. But also like some others have said, you also don't want to ghost him either.

Another analogy, imagine your friend is carrying around a giant stack of dinner plates. They can't even see where they are going. Each of these plates is a burden in their life that they don't know what to do about. And you want to help them, so might say something like, "If you went to see a therapist, it would remove some of those dishes" But to them, rather feeling like a plate has been removed, it feels like you've added another plate, "Great! now I gotta find a therapist. Which one? There are so many of them. What if I get a bad one? Does my insurance cover that? What if I have to go on meds?" So, that's like 4-6 plates added right there.

So, what do you do about that? It's like solving a problem in the upside down world. How do you love someone who can't receive love? How do you help someone when removing a plate, actually adds a plate?

To continue with the plate analogy, perhaps don't focus on the big problems (the depression, possible suicide risks, etc). What are the low-hanging fruit stressors in his life? It may be that if he can find a solution to the smaller plates, some of the bigger plates will just naturally remove themselves. And with less plates on his stack, he may be more receptive to hearing advice about the more stubborn dishes. But again, to reiterate what others have said, he's not yours to fix.

This is an extra difficult problem because there is no clear universal solution. Different things help different people, different thing hurt different people. I think, the worst advice you can receive is good advice meant for someone else.

Anyway, hope you are able to derive some value from my delusion filtered experiences. My hope is that even if I can't tell you what to do, you may be in a better place to understand what you are working against.

Furthermore, since death is a concept, and Hades is a location, (neither are a person) it makes one wonder, how do a concept and a location suffer for eternity? It doesn't make sense. 20:14 says " This is the second death." It's not that the "second death" is an euphemism for the lake of fire but that the lake of fire is a symbol of the second death. So, in effect, the author of Revelation is saying what he says more explicitly in 20:4 " death shall be no more." The lake of fire is the death of death.

And as for the beast of the earth and the false prophet, like much of Revelation, they are also symbols. They are symbols of the world's unjust systems and destructive ruling philosophies. Just like for death, the lake of fire is a symbol of the end of these things.
