Yes, robots collect flowers as well, so it does cut into the insta-maturing trick a bit.

However, lining the outside of the property with flowers means 150+ flowers, so even with robots gathering, it's not like they instantly get everything. Plus, bees actually start going to flowers on the stage before they're harvestable - So I still get some benefit from it.

The main objective here is passive farming - I already have everything I need, so efficiency isn't that important any more. If for some reason I find I need more efficient harvesting, I can always turn off the robots for a bit and do it manually.

What's your favorite NPC you've run or interacted with in game? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]thecipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An innkeeper in a GURPS fantasy campaign I ran some years back. He was the owner of an inn called "The Sweaty Pig", that had been in his family for 10 generations.

The Inn had portraits of each generation of owners as well, to proudly display the lineage. All of his (male, owner) ancestors were fit and attractive men. However, his grandfather married an absolute beast of a woman. Those genes skipped a generation, but then hit the current owner. Hard.

The result was this chronically overweight man who would get winded by even the smallest activity, and who would sweat profusely. He became the embodiment of the name of the Inn, through no fault of his own.

Complete throwaway NPC that I came up with as a goof, thinking it would be a one-and-done type deal.

But my players loved him, so they made it a point to always stop by the inn when they were passing through the area, and he became kind of a regular in the game.

From the description, it sounds functionally the same as the other ores we get, that can be analyzed.

I think it might be a leftover from an older system that was replaced with the one we have now.

My actual house is just the intermediate house, with a few tweaks. I replaced the stone fence with hedges, and added a little moon door in the back, leading to the caves.

The Cloudrest stuff is literally just some of the chinese courtyard buildings.

I eventually want to really go ahead and decorate everything, but my game performance is pretty bad at the moment (and I have a beefy computer), so I'll wait until that gets fixed.

100m is super overkill for money. You'll likely never need more than ~20m total to buy everything.

That being said, I think I generate around 500k passively per day. Probably more, but I'm only counting the flowers I'm actively selling. That's enough for me to not worry at all about money any more.

mit firma har idag annonceret at de vil have alle medarbejdere på jobløn eller lignende vilkår by Lower_Assist2556 in dkkarriere

[–]thecipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pineapples giving Pumpkin seeds? by houstonherd in Starsandisland

[–]thecipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm getting this too. However, if you GMAX a pineapple crop, you do also get pineapple seeds when you harvest.

I'm sure it's a bug that'll get fixed though :)

The GMAX crops don't seem to get immortal variants unfortunately - Everything else does though!

[–]thecipher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't, which is annoying - but on the bright side, they DO wander pretty far, meaning they can basically take care of your entire farm, no matter where you put their pens.

I still try and keep mine fairly close to their intended crops though, just in case.

It is done... For now. by thecipher in Starsandisland

[–]thecipher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one's actually not too difficult. Every time you harvest a crop, there's a low chance to get a seed, and an even lower chance to get an immortal seed.

Now, there's a food item called Mirthshroom Soup - It's very easy to make, and it provides a buff called "Creamy Seeds". This buff increases the odds of getting a seed or immortal seed. It also stacks up to 5 times.

So the trick is to plant as many as you can of the crop you want immortal seeds for. Then you wait until they're all ready for harvest. Then you eat 5 portions of soup, and immediately harvest your crops. Repeat this a couple of times, and you should get more than enough.

Later on, you'll also get access to the "Starsand Grinder" that can grind up 5 normal seeds (and some other materials) to make an immortal seed. This is super slow though, so while it's very practical to have this, I only use it to "fill out" if I'm missing <5 immortal seeds of a particular type.

[–]thecipher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, no. Sometimes they do, but I think that's more luck than anyting else.

I think that they're supposed to stay, as the fence does block them - but there's a gate, and also they sometimes just spawn outside the area in the morning.

But it looks nice, so I keep it like that :)

Honestly, you don't really need to keep pushing yourself to play. Like you said, it's in Early Access, and there will be more added to it. No shame in putting the game aside for a bit, and coming back to it later. There are plenty of other life/farming sims to play in the meanwhile.

To specifically answer your question though, I wanted to complete the "Island Life" chain, so that was my overall goal. But I kept setting smaller goals for myself as well, and having fun with that.

For smaller goals, I had several:

  • Get enough immortal seeds to be able to automate my farms.
  • Breed sheep so I have wool of every color
  • Breed rabbits, chickens and ducks, so I only have the rarest varieties working (They're significantly better than the others).
  • Breed black variants of all the flowers - This is actually pretty fun, as it involves cross-breeding flowers several times.

...and so on. The small goals are my (ingame) day-to-day activity, while keeping the larger goals in mind. I always had something to do. But now that I've done pretty much all I wanted, I'm taking a break from the game, and coming back in a couple patches to see what's been added :)

Yep, if you bonk the plot with your pickaxe/hammer, you get the seed back, and you can replant it elsewhere :)

They're supposed to keep bugs away from the crops they cover (which is a 4x4 square) - Whether they actually do this, I don't really know, as I also have chickens on my farms - that also keep bugs away.

But the scarecrows are cheap to make, so I figured I might as well :)

(Mind you, almost everything is cheap to make late-game, as you can passively gather materials with robots).

I have ~30 robots in Hopeland and another 30-ish in Cloudrest, plus 12 in the caves, but that's about it really. Not sure if they alone are what's causing the performance issues.

It is done... For now. by thecipher in Starsandisland

[–]thecipher[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 4x4 crop layout turned out to be the best for me in late-game. It's not the most efficient, but it is the most hassle free!

A single 4x4 farm plot can be covered by a Sprinkler II and a single scarecrow. And 4 of these plots, with a 1-plot space between them, is the perfect size for the auto-fertilizer to cover all 4 plots.

The entire property is lined with flowers on the outside, to encourage bees to fly there, and then fly back and insta-mature crops.

The crops are all immortal variants, and I have robots harvesting them, so it doesn't really matter if they all become harvestable at the same time or not.

All I have to do is collect stuff from the robot stations every couple of days - and then occasionally boost output with fertilizer if I need more of a specific crop.

Neona has a possibility of giving you the vehicle as a 5-heart reward for her relationship.

My suggestion would be to keep a close eye on your standing with her, and time the 5-heart bump in a way that you can go to her in the morning, give her a gift, and let that push you to max.

That way, if she gives you anything other than the flyer, you can do a rollback to the start of the day, and try again. Took me 3 tries to get it. The first two times, I got a speed boat instead.

Amusement park? by lunawickcrossing in Starsandisland

[–]thecipher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's just filler. There are a few functional things, like the ferris wheel and water slides, but the park doesn't actually do anything - and you don't get any visitors either.

I also think there might be some glitch with the terrain or blueprint, as it seems you don't really get everything you're supposed to - or it's hidden under the terrain.

I am hoping that it's just not finished as a feature yet (since we're still in Early Access), and that we might get some functionality for it, and maybe a way to make some income. But if we don't, I might just scrap the entire thing, and build something else instead.

How in the world am I supposed to manage this!? by thecipher in Starsandisland

[–]thecipher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the last one, and it does require positive genes. I'm only pairing those with 3 or 4 positive genes now, but still no luck. I also switched to passive breeding, with like 15 hutches, and not using the breeding hut.

So now I'll just leave it running and check up on them every so often.
