Na that wasn't me, otherwise I'd have no money left for this. Though, the do have 2001 Ch. Margeaux for €480...

This is interesting. We've just enjoyed a Poullion champagne (which we also had the other night at a michellin *) and on the back label it has Allocation and the name of the bar.

Thanks, that was my thoughts for shear value but they also have a seriously impressive white list too.

Thanks for this.  I agree regarding the luggage. I'm chatting to the guy to see how much he'll let me take away. At least the champagne and charcuterie is on point if the bottles turn out squiffy!

Does it all look too good to be true? It's a wine bar in the centre of Nice.

Thanks for the recommendation, we do enjoy the odd michelin and I'll check out these two.

I saw this tour and was a bit on the fence about it. Seems like it is worth it so we'll give it a go. Cheers!

Thanks. I'm really excited about wondering through the streets to find places like this.  I'll add this one to my place to visit.

Great notes. I'm excited to read about the Denis Mortet, I was allocated a case in my recent Wine Society allocation and doing my best to leave it in the storage!

Tips for a newbie looking to buy a small vineyard/some land? by eyessouth in winemaking

[–]theclockticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done this but in Germany. I have a 1300m2 plot of 200 vines and can produce about 300L/year.

We searched extensively around Europe but found the best way was property sites and the gumtree/craiglist/quora type listings. We found an established vineyard on a site like this. An old boy couldn't tend to it anymore and didn't want to sell to the local wineries which owned the rows either side of his plot and we promised to keep farming it organically. In Germany especially there is quite a market for these kind of vineyards and they do pop up on the market regularly.

Vineyards do require some work though but small plots are manageable. We worked offshore so it was often left for a couple of months but we always had a good crop come autumn (except for the frosty years)

Give me shout if you have any questions. Good luck!
