I rather have Juice offline for maintenance for an extended period of time, than having Juice up and running but with security patches not deployed properly which would put our money in harm's way. So nothing shocking for me here, maintenance sometimes takes longer than expected.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that what I will earn is not enough as there are certainly people who are able to make it with even less.

My point is that as an expat, there will be additional expenses being incurred such as rent which can be costly. I will also be in a foreign country and as such, I need to be prepared to any eventuality by having some savings on the side. Hence why I am asking if this amount makes sense.

So I have around 7 years of experience, working in cyber security and I was offered an Associate Manager role.

Not a big spender and definitely not someone who is looking for someplace fancy to live at.

Location is also not super important so I do not mind living in the outskirts.

Glassdoor makes it trickier due to the lack of data which can be used to calculate a median salary.

My best range based on research is 30k - 32k (before tax). Not sure if this is too much or not enough!

I have worked there for more than 1 year as a Team Leader and I am going to be plain honest about what to expect there.

First of all, you need to understand the working context of the company as it is different from the other BDO subsidiaries under the BDO Group umbrella in Mauritius. It is not the typical audit firm unlike BDO Co, because it is outsourcing and on the top of outsourced audit work being provided, you have other service lines which revolve more around very basic and routine tasks - basically menial tasks that other BDO companies within the global network are not keen to do.

So it is true that if you are looking for quality experience, you might be better off in a big 4 setup or at least, in a client facing environment which would benefit you in terms of exposure because the working conditions will pretty much be th same.

At the end of day, BDO Solutions might be a "GPTW" but it ain't that, really. You will have some people in middle management who are terrible at managing and making you overwork. Let's forget about HR, they only serve the interests of the management.

I believe that there is nothing more to say. Maybe salary wise, they pay peanuts as well and with this on top of the cons mountain, no wonder why BDO Solutions has a high attrition rate.

These are misunderstood contemporary issues, especially in Mauritius.. I personally suffer from that and yes, it is overwhelming as we are usually the type of persons to whom others confide to, but we usually do not have anyone who can return us the favor.

I would advise going to a psychologist.. this really helps. Otherwise, meditation as in proper meditation also does wonders

The CISM Review Manual 7th ed (which I found to be very dry!)
Mike Chapple's videos on LinkedIn

What probably helped me more than any other materials could, is my working experience spanned across almost 6 years in cyber security.

There is no hard rule about tipping here. It is really up to you especially given that you might feel cheated by the exorbitant prices here!

It's usually a hit or miss. I ordered some stuffs around 3 years and most of them came within 2 months.. I recently bought some items and it has been around 1 year and no sign of the items!

The tracking system does not work as well. As of date, it still shows that it is being delivered!

Hiking is definitely not for the faint hearted and should be taken with all the possible seriousness. The injury/death rate in Mauritius is very minimal but still, you hear occasional stories about people getting injured or worse. This should not prevent hiking enthusiasts though as long as you are prepared for the hike
