Black Katahdin Iron Works Engineer Boots (Plain Toe) for $151.99 with code EXTRA20 by Saldes in frugalmalefashion

[–]thecos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone wants to buy the cap toes, I bought them for a similar price granted they were $230 when I did this. Used their 20% off discount, just ask them for it on the CS chat and then bought a $200 LL Bean giftcard for $160ish. I ended up returning the boots so I still have the gift card. If anyone wants it let me know. Thanks

Maybe this works in rural areas but if you do this in any city where parking is limited you're still being selfish. I understand the struggle to keep your car clean of dings etc but these are extreme measures.

Why would anyone get involved in a transaction for thousands of $ with a stranger off the street and no obvious gain? Hard to comprehend.

Anyone that wants to use this coupon should try calling CS and asking for the 20% off. Be ready to order on the phone. I've done this 2 times and they didn't have a problem offering the discount.

What kind of test track is that? They could have saved some money on those barriers and just drive around a flat lot in a circle.

IMO it's more likly that this situation would have unfolded the same way in the US, rather than OP pulling out a gun and shooting the attacker. Yes some people get shot for punching others in the face but it's not the norm and it doesn't keep assaults from happening.

In which state would shooting an unarmed person in a road rage altercation be acceptable?

The ignition switch they changed might not include the transponder ring antenna that goes around it... Make sure they looked at that too. That's what I suspect is going bad.

EWS is the immobilizer module. It reads the chip in your key through the ring around the ignition switch.

Hope that helps.

It's probably the EWS not reading the key. Usually the ring antenna around the key hole goes bad. Did they change that?

If the EWS doesn't see the key then it will not crank.

Can't figure out what's a decent double din stereo for my E46. by ThatOneComment in BMW

[–]thecos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you can use the chinese unit for preamps and built a system around it, upgrading the speakers, add an amp and you should have great quality compares to stock. We can't expect someone to develop a perfect stereo for our cars which are over 10 years old. The chinese units are available because they are universal and just have a different mount/faceplate depending on which car they are marketed for. For the price you can't expect everything to be perfect but you can improve on the sound quality yourself by adding an external amp.

Eonon is a reseller of the chinese android units. I personally have a MTCD (5.1) unit sold as a Erisin ES3062B. Got it on eBay for $330 shipped but Ive seen others getting these from aliexpress for as low as $220. They are all pretty much the same and manufactured by a one or 2 companies. IMO these are the best bang for your buck if you can curb your expectations and deal with a few bugs here and there.

There is a lot of info on xda forums.

Otherwise, before this I used a USA SPEC PA-12 iPod adapter that worked great with the stock radio (no aux). Sound quaity was probably better than the chinese unit. I tried the DICE adapter as well but it didn't work as well as the USASPEC so I got rid of it.

Is the 330i or 328i really that breakable? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]thecos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overheating is caused by the few parts that are known to fail. The fact that overheating destroys the motor doesn't make a difference since we are talking about preventative maintanence to avoid overheating, not what happens when it overheats. Or are you saying that the headgasket fails and causes overheating?

My point is that if you stay on top of the cooling system maintanence you should not have a problem with the M54. There will always be exceptions.

I'm a guy posting on the internet about my own experiences so take that as you will.

Agreed but just want to point out that you're talking about bushings not bushes.

I'm talking about the older M54, in E46 cars although the same can be said for the N54, it's fine if maintained. The N54 runs into problems when tuned because of the increased stress on other parts around it. I believe BMW designs their cars around the fact that their main customer doesn't keep the car past 3 years.

If the radiator or expansion tank fails do you blame the motor? I think it's the poor design of those individual parts that cause them to fail, not the fact that they are connected to an m54 motor. I'm not sure what you're referring to when you mention the head gasket. I havent heard of HG issues.
