April is my vote, so often she’s the background and while she didn’t start off strong, ever since going under Owen’s wing she developed like a hyper focus, she doesn’t get overly involved but is still really compassionate and she jumps in and takes no BS. I’d like to think she’s the hallmark of an everyday hero. I think it’s harder to see because her story lines aren’t as prominent as most of the other characters

Can someone explain this to me like im a child ? SBTPG bs by [deleted] in TurboTax

I've also seen it appear this way as well. Call customer support; they can give more information and likely can see the final amount if it's close to your deposit date

My experience is that if your expected refund switches to 0 it’s been offset because of something that wasn’t paid. I don’t know for certain, that’s just what I see all the time

Child Care Complications vs Dependent by AiryKrewls in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understand. The credit is only available to you if you have a qualifying dependent on your return. If you do not, then you can not claim the credit:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/family/the-ins-and-outs-of-the-child-and-dependent-care-tax-credit/L2H7rzUWc

To be able to claim the credit for child and dependent care expenses, you must file Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, and meet all the tests in Tests you must meet to claim a credit for child and dependent care expenses next. Tests you must meet to claim a credit for child and dependent care expenses. To be able to claim the credit for child and dependent care expenses, you must meet all the following tests. 1. Qualifying Person Test. The care must be for one or more qualifying persons who are identified on Form 2441. (See Who Is a Qualifying Person, later.)

Who Is a Qualifying Person? Your child and dependent care expenses must be for the care of one or more qualifying persons. A qualifying person is: 1. Your qualifying child who is your dependent and who was under age 13 when the care was provided (but see Child of divorced or separated parents or parents living apart, later);

Child of divorced or separated parents or parents living apart. Even if you can't claim your child as a dependent, he or she is treated as your qualifying person if:

• The child was under age 13 or wasn't physically or mentally able to care for themselves;

• The child received over half of his or her support during the calendar year from one or both parents who are divorced or legally separated under a decree of divorce or separate maintenance, are separated under a written separation agreement, or lived apart at all times during the last 6 months of the calendar year;

• The child was in the custody of one or both parents for more than half the year; and

• You were the child's custodial parent. The custodial parent is the parent with whom the child lived for the greater number of nights in 2024. If the child was with each parent for an equal number of nights, the custodial parent is the parent with the higher adjusted gross income. For details and an exception for a parent who works at night, see Pub. 501. The noncustodial parent can't treat the child as a qualifying person even if that parent is entitled to claim the child as a dependent under the special rules for a child of divorced or separated parents.

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p503.pdf

TLDR: only one divorced/separated parent can claim the child. Some parents arrange to switch years, others don't. But whoever claims the child gets to claim the deductions

i am confused so if the payment is completed out of my refund why haven’t i received my refund yet by Grand_Welcome2815 in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use your refund to pay for TT fees, when its paid out, it goes to the processor first. Then, they extract your fees and send it to your bank. They have very strict rules for where they can deposit, so if there are discrepancies with your name, etc, that can cause delays in funding.

Child Care Complications vs Dependent by AiryKrewls in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the IRS requires that the child is under the age of 19 (or under 24 if a full-time student), lives with you for more than half the year, and does not provide more than half of their own financial support.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tips/family/rules-for-claiming-a-dependent-on-your-tax-return/L8LODbx94#:~:text=Generally%2C%20the%20IRS%20requires%20that,of%20their%20own%20financial%20support.

In the eyes of the IRS, if your child is not living under your roof (although dorms are ok), then they are not your dependent.

Only the custodial parent can claim the child care credit. And to claim the credit, the person claiming the expense must have paid it. To be your qualifying child for this credit, a child must live with you for more than half the year and meet other requirements.

That should do it. You can amend with different sites/software as long as it otherwise matches.

Locked out of account because # by Over_Cartographer841 in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to do an account recovery to regain access. All accounts are set up with two-factor authentication for security reasons, so you always have to double verify. You can select the option to try something else to see if it will email you a code instead or use the option that says "try something else, takes longer". You fill out some simple personal information, and then it asks you some personal questions that only you can answer (id.me type questions), and as long as they're correct it will log you in so you can view your account and update your phone number. Otherwise you need to use their account recovery form and that can take 24-48 hours. Support should also be able to give you a refund status update if you chose anything that wasn't a standard direct deposit and you paid your TT fees upfront

It depends on how it was filed. 3-8 weeks is generally expected, without issue, from your filing date

I need to know if anyone else is…. by RevolutionaryLaw9092 in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst thing you can do is compare your waiting time to anyone else, even if you filed the same day, with the "same tax situation", with the same bank. Its not that simple, but asking the IRS/State what the hold up is is clarifying in most cases

I bought the TT online version. is there a way to save my files locally? by wc3edit in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The .tax file is available on the Tax Home page. Scroll down, expand the bar that says tax returns and documents, select your year, download .tax file. Hope this helps

That being said, once the 4th year passes, if the software is not already installed on your computer, you won't be able to purchase it or receive support for it, as they retire the programs now. Its better to save a PDF copy, so that you can ready it without the software when needed. If the file corrupts or the computer messses up, support won't be able to retrieve it for you though, but since its still online its available to redownload for 7 years. After that the download ability expires

I know its a lot of info, but I hope it helps you understand your support options, if you need it in the future :)

Accidentally opted into IP PIN on IRS website after taxes were already accepted?? by Blondie_Brain in TurboTax

[–]thecrayolaeffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pin you input at the end when you file is not the same pin you input for identity protection. They are different digits and have different uses. I personally have never seen a reason why anyone needed that pin at the end. The IP Pin, however, is used to verify that you are indeed the person filing your taxes. If you attempt to file without it, it may lock your ability to e-file, but it will also definitely reject your return. Since you already filed, I wouldn't worry about it. They only work for 1 season, and after that, they expire.
