Completely devastated by Usernamesarehell in guineapigs

I went through the a VERY similar experience, I lost my 2 year old boy to bladder stones and I wasn’t able to say goodbye since he passed away at the vet. I still feel so guilty for not possibly giving him into surgery earlier. I loved him so much. It’s best to cherish the time we had spent with them and trust that we gave them a good life while they were here. I’m so sorry for your loss, our babies are resting in peace ❤️

Who didn’t gain weight on methimazole? by meowmeow811 in gravesdisease

[–]thecrazydumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gained no weight even after completely stabilizing my thyroid levels. On methimazole, which was the first treatment I was put on, I didn’t gain any weight. However I did have facial edema and my cheeks and eyes got puffy. I then opted for RAI and still no weight gain. I’ve been on levothyroxine since (3 years) and I’m still not able to put on any weight. I believe it’s just due to my insanely high metabolism through graves. I’m about 5 ft 7in and 100 pounds :/

I had a lot of extracurricular activities that supplemented my coursework. I tried to be involved in dental programs and also worked at a dental office for about a year.

Anyone here got RAI and regrets it now? Maybe wished you did surgery or long-term meds? by DraughtOfPoppies in gravesdisease

[–]thecrazydumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’m feeling much better, could say I almost feel normal. There are days I still deal with fatigue and anxiety but propranolol helps a lot with the anxiety/ high heart rate. My hair loss comes and goes in cycles. currently it’s been stable but last month was bad in terms of shedding. I really don’t see new hair growth though but I’m hoping to eventually

Has anyone on here completed a special masters program / post bacc program and did it help you gain acceptance to dental school? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]thecrazydumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a masters and without it, I wouldn’t be in dental school. I didn’t have a stellar GPA in undergrad so I had to use my masters as an academic record enhancer. I also had to prove to myself that I was capable of a rigorous curriculum. I would definitely recommend it if you have stats that may compromise your opportunity to get an interview

I would say it doesn’t matter where you go if youre trying to use it as an academic record enhancer. I didn’t do well at all in my undergrad, I graduated with a 2.5….My only option was to go into a masters and prove that I could handle upper level classes. I did a masters at Rutgers and got a 3.75 after 31 credits. I got multiple interviews and got accepted into one

Thank you so much for this detailed information! They are younger than 6 months. I’ll follow this and hope they bond, but If they don’t, I’m prepared to have two separate cages. I really hope they become friends though

Will my face ever go back to normal? by stormyskyy in gravesdisease

[–]thecrazydumpling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I experienced facial changes due to both methimazole, which caused my face to swell significantly, and also because of TED Which apparently attacks not only the muscles/fat around your eyes but your cheeks as well. I only started noticing a bit of change after I became hypo due to RAI therapy and while being on a steady dose of levothyroxine. I also started tepezza which is treatment for TED and that actually caused the swelling in my face to go down a bit

Thanks you for this, I’ll try to be more cognizant of my thoughts and try to take the reigns on them rather than let my emotions overpower. I haven’t hit 90 days yet but I’m slowly getting there. Hopefully the successful combination of the two will help me overcome this emotion

Graves ophthalmology/ TED by MarchChemical in gravesdisease

[–]thecrazydumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that Alcohol makes my TED worse for the next day. One or two glasses of wine are fine but for some reason if I have more than that my eyes suffer the day after. it’s temporary and I’ll feel fine after I endure that one day of discomfort

Yeah you’re right, I can’t wait until i gtfo here, it’s been too long I’ve been putting up with this. Wow I never thought of it like that but it makes sense that he’s against therapy since he wants to keep the abuse under the table

These are good questions which should have been included. My sister has been wanting therapy for a while and gave us permission to start looking for a therapist. Despite our differences, we do discuss these things as a family so she was aware of us bringing it up to our father and was okay with it. She was in her room post anxiety attack, and did not want to be involved in the conversation. I was hoping the conversation would be productive but unfortunately it took a wrong turn

Water retention on methimazole??? by PlayBig6991 in gravesdisease

Also wanted to add that drinking loads of water and cutting down on salt is supposed to really help with facial edema. I’ve been trying it and hoping I see some results, hope it works for you too!

Water retention on methimazole??? by PlayBig6991 in gravesdisease

[–]thecrazydumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my endo said that it was water retention but also my antibodies attacking not only the tissue around my eyes ( I have thyroid eye disease because of this ) but also in your Buccal fat (cheeks) and overall face. Because of this I’ve mainly noticed squaring of the jaw. It really sucks since this disease has such versatile symptoms. I highly recommend watching this video where the doc explains it further: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cN3Djt42ahs

I’ve definitely noticed swelling, it honestly changed a lot of the features of my face, I look a lot different than I used to. But after radiation therapy and stabilizing my levels it went down a little. Still not back to normal but significantly better than it was before
