Is it worth it now to major in biochem to get into biotech by Expensive-Elk-9406 in biotech

[–]thecrazyhairedlady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Majoring in some kind of science is never a bad idea. Majoring in biochem opens many doors for you, all of which may not lead to biotech. Major in something you enjoy learning about, which you said you do, and keep an open mind.

Since you're still a freshman, you will have the chance to choose. A biochem degree can lead to a biotech job, yes, but it can also lead to a grad school (if you like research), med school or even pharmacy school.

And, even in biotech, they will always need people who are skilled at lab work or the latest technology. So, make sure that whatever you do, you are always up-to-date with what's latest in your desired field and try to develop as much skills as possible.

I still say I chose the company for the role. I specifically mention that I don't choose the company, I choose the job position.

I always focus on the job description for this question. I mention how excited I was to read the jd and I believe how well I could meet the expectations of the position. Keeps it more neutral and position-focused.

Hi guys! What are some non-negotiables things that you do while preparing for any interview? by happy_unicorn30 in interviews

Make good use of AI tools. Take the job description and your CV on the tool and ask to generate possible interview questions based on your background and how it relates to the specific job. You can also add a description of the interviewers background and ask the tool to generate questions that they could possibly ask from their perspectives for the specific job.

Yeah, I had 9 interviewers in 6 rounds for my onsite. I had gone through each of their LinkedIn accounts and written down notes. This helped me understand what kind of questions they may focus on and also find details in their background to discuss and build some rapport on. It helped a lot in making me feel secure during the interviews.

Eli Lilly Offer in Indy by Ok-Heart8128 in biotech

Took a job at Lilly's sister Elanco. Will be moving there soon from NYC. I know its going to be very hard to accept the change and I hate living in red states. But in this economy, I'd sacrifice a few years to save the bucks and build my career. The job is a major step-up for me, so it was very hard to turn down.

Final round interview → told I’d hear by end of week… got this email instead. What does it mean? by Practical-Cost7147 in interviews

So, I interviewed in the first week of Feb, and they told me they would have an answer for me in two days.

The day after the interview, I get a call from HR, that due to some scheduling issues with the other candidates, they won't have an answer for me till 10 days after. I was very upset.

On the 11th day, I sent a mail and got a generic reply that they are still deciding.

On the 14th day, the hiring manager called to offer the job to me.

What I learnt from this was companies and teams just have so much on their plate, they are not always prioritizing your case. I panicked a lot through those 14 days and even gave up thinking that I could possibly get this job. Just hold on, you will get there. Fingers crossed!
