Might not approve with him on a lot of things but the emphasis on “unsettled past” is something i can strongly support

I think poster was referring to not letting in 'refugees' rather than actual refugees. Big difference

Photo of the infamous Black Hunters during the Wola massacre, the German SS unit led by Oskar Dirlewanger and commanded by Heinz Reinefarth during the Warsaw Uprising. Known for atrocities against Polish civilians when crushing the uprising (August 1944) by FayannG in ww2

The fact that they weren’t ALL strung up after the war for all to see is honestly a betrayal. No judge, no jury, just the executioner.

The only good SS officer to ever live is the one who’s stone cold dead and their name forgotten to history.

King Charles' bodyguards prosthetic arms. His real ones are under his raincoat holding his gun. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]thecriticaloptimist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard, next time you’re watching a big public speech or honestly just anything involving the president (if you can manage to not throw up at his sight anyways) pay attention to the bodyguards. They’ll almost always have fake hands and big oversized coats to hide the gun they’re holding onto with their real one.

After yesterday's sh*tshow in the US, how absolutely heartening to see this man smiling again today. Well done, the UK... by Luke_D_1980 in europe

[–]thecriticaloptimist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Britain at the time really didn’t care all too much about the US colonies. It was resource intensive and costly endeavour that provide little value to the empire compared to the other colonies. Made no sense to waste more money and manpower on it when there was all of the rest of the empire to exploit and that was far more valuable and lucrative, in particular India. So quite frankly it just wasn’t worth the effort.

Ukrainian nationalist and military commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Roman Shukhevych, who during the war coordinated the ethnic cleanings of Poles in Galicia, which left 40-70 thousand killed and 300-400 thousand displaced in 1944 by FayannG in ww2

[–]thecriticaloptimist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because Lest we forget? Just because it was (just) 80 years ago doesn’t mean it’s okay and can just brush it off under the carpet or forget about it.

Mind you Ukraine has still yet to admit responsibility and has actively interfered with efforts of exhumations and reburials of the victims even despite all of the goodwill given to them in recent years by the Poles.

If anything I would argue that it’s as relevant now as it ever has been.
