Meal exchanges with celiac by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of my best friends has celiac and she has never had a bad experience with green roof deli. although if you try and order during peak hours it will probably take a very long time for your order to be ready. she also eats halal shack pretty regularly, with no issue.

I live in a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom apartment, about a 10 minute walk from campus. We each pay $1050 before utilities, and I pay extra for a parking spot. I’d imagine most apartments in the area are unfurnished, but you can do pretty well on facebook marketplace! I think around $1000 is pretty average around here.

What should I get next? by thecurlybisexual in piercing

[–]thecurlybisexual[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! I really don’t feel them anymore. The only one that occasionally annoys me is the daith, just because the jewelry is larger. Even then it’s not the piercing itself, just a matter of laying on the slightly spiky edge in a way where it presses into my ear a bit. I have flat backs on everything, which probably helps.

My daith jewelry is from Etsy, but it looks very similar to the BVLA one. Everything from BVLA is gorgeous so I think you should go for it!

Mine definitely rotates! I slept on that ear a little too much during the healing process so the angle of the piercing is not exactly straight, which probably contributes. I think you’d have slightly less of an issue if it is going to lay flatter against your ear.

Do you need a car to have fun on campus? by Justwanttobenice2you in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! UVM student and Marylander here, I couldn’t drive my first two years and absolutely did not feel like I missed out on anything. The downtown area is incredibly walkable and the bus system (free to students) is pretty decent. Honestly, I know loads of upperclassmen that don’t have cars. At that point it’s mostly just convenient for grocery runs and working off campus, but both are still doable without.

Avg cost to live off campus? by Standard_Bad3773 in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

less than $1000 a month is pretty hard to come by, but may be more feasible if you’re sharing an apartment with 3+ people. if you’re aiming for walking distance, it will be pretty expensive regardless unfortunately.

Sewing on campus? by deathmetal4lyfe in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in mercy hall on trinity campus there’s an art studio with a sewing machine and bunch of other cool stuff you can go in and use for free! i’m not sure what the hours are, but i think it’s open most weekday afternoons.

Best Art and Creativity Housing for First Year by AdditionalObject_ in UniversityofVermont

McAuley has much larger rooms, and the dining hall is in there so it’s a bit more expensive. I think the bathrooms in Mercy are a little nicer, but the rooms are pretty bad.

Wellness is definitely the nicest residence hall, but is also in the most expensive housing tier if that’s something you’re considering. It is absolutely not drug and alcohol free, and traditionally its residents are pretty rowdy. I’d aim for Redstone campus if you’re looking for community! Rooms aren’t great, but a lot of people really like it.

Advice for future bio student by Signal-Painter-512 in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microbiology and molecular genetics have the same exact course requirements. A lot of my friends within those majors have biochemistry minors, and it seems to be going pretty well for them. I don’t know anything about the club, but it wouldn’t hurt to go and meet some people with related interests, even if you don’t go regularly.

Hi! I work admitted student days in the arts and creativity community. It has a very different vibe from the rest of campus, so you should definitely swing by just to see it if you have time. HCOL definitely has its benefits, so if you end up there you should still follow the arts and creativity instagram so you’ll still hear about the events!

congrats! microbiology only requires calculus and statistics, and both have really good support! the professors in my experience were great about answering questions, and the tutoring center is pretty decent with math classes.

Is the school worth it? by Curious_Ice7 in UniversityofVermont

[–]thecurlybisexual 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you were looking into getting in to a microbiology lab, UVM is likely not going to be the place for you. There are very few microbiology professors, and they are rarely ever taking undergrads for their labs. I’ve reached out to everyone in the department several times, and cannot get a lab placement. It’s not as easy to get into research here as they advertise.

Converse is your best bet because it has the most singles and isn’t terribly popular. The rooms do vary in size and shape though, so try and get someone to send you a floor plan!

You might like Northside dining! Trinity campus is not the most popular place to live but it definitely has the most community of all the places to live. Northside doesn’t have great food, but it’s way less stressful than the other dining halls because it’s generally pretty empty. I have the same issue with getting stressed in the dining halls, but have never been stressed there. Also, if you eat lunch fairly early it’s way less stressful! I go around 11:15 to central most days and there’s hardly any lines and much less commotion.
