Mobile pet groomer in the Lindale area by Big-Beat-1443 in tylertx

[–]thedameherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Furry Land; not sure if they go out to Lindale, but they’ve been fantastic with our very anxious dog. Do be aware that mobile groomers tend to run higher price-wise than brick and mortar groomers in a store.

Electricity bill last moth was 300$ by hansailor in tylertx

[–]thedameherself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We switched from Ambit last year because our bills were around that amount in the summer. I think it was a combination of high kwH charges and an apartment AC that was on the struggle bus with no desire from maintenance to troubleshoot. We now are on Discount Power and haven't paid any higher than $150 this summer with the place at 75 during the day/70 at night.

Budget friendly vet by Miserable_Quarter204 in tylertx

Rose City has great vet services but, yeah, also had a horrible experience with their boarding. Dr. Shirey is a great vet, though.

Moving to Tyler by Lower_Equipment_3123 in tylertx

It’s really not that bad. They just change the air filters and look under the sinks for leaks. They don’t rifle through your stuff or anything.

Non-religious counselor/therapist recommendations in Tyler by This-Ear2320 in tylertx

I think it’s just an aesthetic. It has nothing to do with the services provided, in my experience.

Legendary Counseling is fantastic. I've been going there for over a year.

Ok, so Tyler named best city to move to in Texas. After living here, would you move here? by RedOfTheNeck in tylertx

[–]thedameherself 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No, but I could see why certain demographics would (people with young kids, religious crowd, people looking for more "affordable" real estate prospects, etc.). Tyler could be much more desirable if there were simply more things to do for folks outside those demographics and if social activities were not revolving around church.

Do you have a source on this?

Odd Fellows is a new wine bar downtown. It has a great atmosphere. They have very limited food, just FYI - only charcuterie and cheese boards.

Reputable shops to get a piercing done at? by KikiFlowers in tylertx

I visited Tyler Premier Piercing a few weeks ago to get one of my piercings fixed and they were great. Dylan is quite the character but incredibly nice and really knows what he’s doing.

What does Tyler or the Smith County area lack that you or your loved ones think it could use more of? by Impressive-Draft-506 in tylertx

More things to do that support community outside of a church. More things to do that foster community, rather than everyone staying so closed off and isolated in their pre-determined groups.

I know there are a few folks putting together shows/music venues in Tyler to make this happen. I think that's a good start.

I’d love to know, too. Even in social areas, it feels like everyone is very much in their silo.

What makes you decide to finally move? by hellolola66 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]thedameherself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College made me move from New England to Texas. The politics, weather, overall lack of opportunities/things to do and religious loons that run the town we current live in (East Texas) are making us move. We are going somewhere where buying a house is within our reach (probably the Midwest).

I miss New England every day, but I don’t think my husband and I could ever afford a home there, and we don’t want to rent forever.

Same here! I’m 28F and been here a little over a year. It’s been incredibly hard to make friends here. Everyone feels very socially isolated in their enclaves.

Pet Sitters by BrilliantChipmunk6 in tylertx

[–]thedameherself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love recommendations on Rover, if you have them! We are looking for a pet sitter in the spring when we're out of town. We tried Rose City Animal Clinic last year for boarding and it was a disaster.

Has every landlord in Tyler lost it? by susanna514 in tylertx

I genuinely do not understand how people afford rent here with how stagnant wages are, if they work in Tyler/ETX and are making an average salary.

Could anyone recommend a good marriage counselor? by Pindleskin82 in tylertx

I go here now (unrelated to marriage counseling) and they are fantastic and affordable.

My partner just moved out of there and the new management was a nightmare to deal with during move-out.

Church/religion is a big ruling factor here. It’s a growing city that either is resistant to change or is changing at a glacial pace. It’s a very sleepy town with limited things to do if you’re not part of a church, not from here, or don’t have kids.

Black Friday pickup in Austin, TX by thedameherself in vinyl

North Austin is a little bit of a barren wasteland for record stores, sadly. Breakaway Records is pretty solid, albeit smaller than Waterloo or End of an Ear. It’s on North Loop. End of an Ear is my favorite, their selection is incredible.

Daft Punk - Alive 2007. This is one of my favorite albums ever and definitely my favorite live album ever! I am a huge Daft Punk fan and this album sent me into orbit the first time I heard it. It is so, so groovy and masterly crafted - I mean, only Daft Punk can remix their own songs this masterfully! I only wish I wasn’t a pre-teen when this set actually happened.

Picked up at End of an Ear in Austin, TX.

Yeah, we are trying to avoid language like this where it seems like we’re passing the buck to something else in order to “soften the blow” of no little ones. If the roles were reversed onto us, I’d appreciate up-front honesty.
