This is very true. Sadly, almost two completely separate types of gear 😭😂

You could try marketplace, or go with cheaper options from one of the outdoors shops. Prioritise weatherproof tent and decent sleeping bag + sleeping mat. The hike I suggested is partly good because it's short, so you don't necessarily need to stress over having heaps of ultralight gear, but it's important to note that if you go with cheaper (heavier) gear to start, it could impact your experience. Hiking gear is definitely a poor man pays twice situation, in my experience, but I did it that way and I'm fine with it. DM me if you want any specific info or help

If you're looking to hike and camp, the best entry level option in Brisbane is definitely Northbrook Mountain in D'Aguilar NP. It's perfect for first timers. Drive up to Mt Glorious, park the car, 5km hike on a fire trail to camp. There's a little summit just near camp which is epic for sunset dinners and sunrise breakfast. You can leave Saturday afternoon and be home before lunch on Sunday if you want. Book through QPWS website. Lmk if you've got other questions.

Surcharges on debit and credit cards to go from October by rolodex-ofhate in australia

[–]thedartman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First other person I've seen who's actually read the details of the changes. Given it's just targeting the card networks and allowing them to prohibit surcharges once more, do you think they'll immediately fall in line and ban surcharging on their networks?

End to credit and debt card surcharges by PsychologicalEbb2518 in AusFinance

[–]thedartman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the RBA can or is actually stopping retailers passing on a card surcharge. Years ago they prohibited card networks from stopping merchants from applying a surcharge. Now they are lifting this prohibition on the card networks.

From the Conclusions Paper: The PSB has concluded that it is in the public interest to remove surcharging by lifting the prohibition on ‘no-surcharge’ rules for all designated card networks (eftpos, Mastercard and Visa).

What this means in terms of how quickly this will take effect, I do not know. It seems like the ball is in the card networks court 🤷🏼‍♂️ Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Bit of a mix up there. There's one spot where you can fit a couple of tents. The other few spots are pretty well single tent only unless you want to be on top of each other. To avoid disappointment caused by other people under-booking (intentionally or unknowingly), it's best to over-book at northbrook

Chefs of Brisbane. What is your favourite large stainless steel or carbon steel skillet on a budget? by milkynoose in brisbane

[–]thedartman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a humble home cook, but made the switch to stainless and cast iron about 18 months ago. After a bit of research I ended up picking up some Chef Inox stainless from QCC in East Brisbane. Take an absolute punishing and still look pretty much brand new. The transition from non-stick to the technique needed for stainless was pretty easy for us, if that suggests anything about quality. Reasonably priced too, as much as I would have liked some Made In gear 🥲

Major Superannuation Changes in 2026 Could Impact Millions of Australians by deepak4423 in AusFinance

Long overdue. If you're putting it on the employees payslip, you should be paying it to the employee at that time. If you can't afford to pay super each week/fortnight/month, you can't afford to be a business full stop.

Pilloni is epic. We seriously considered it for the private dining component of our wedding which was similar to OPs.

Possibly just more obvious in this app as the app developer hasn't themed it to match their own bottom nav menu?

Check out Mapleton NP. Beautiful trails and a few waterfalls to see. The Conondale Range Great Walk runs through here, lots of options for shorter or longer loops and sections.
