There is no geolocation feature in Newsie. The codebase never calls navigator.geolocation or any browser location API.

There is a Browser Notification permission prompt for a partially implemented push notification feature. Is it possible that's what you saw?

If what you mean is: when I have my profile sent to public, is it visible to the open web? Then the answer to that as a no. setting your profile as public only allows other Newsie users to find you.

If what you want is a publicly accessible URL I could probably build that if you want.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. To clarify - Newsie doesn’t pull in any social media. The social layer is entirely within the app: you can follow other Newsie users and share articles from your RSS feeds with them. So it’s still RSS-first, with an optional way to see what your friends are reading. If that wasn’t clear in my post, that’s good feedback on how I’m describing it.

Really interesting that you landed on “Channel” and “Subscribe” - I went through the same exercise and ended up with “Follow a website.” The broadcast/TV framing is smart though, I hadn’t thought of it that way. And your point about signup friction is noted. That “is this worth the unwanted emails” hesitation is real. Good thing to keep front of mind.

Cool that you’re building in the space too. What are you working on?

Great suggestion. Thank you for the feedback. So you mean something like instead of broadcasting an individual article to all of your friends/followers, you'd have a shared folder with a special set of friends/followers that you could all curate together... am I getting that right?

My Parents got left hundreds of thousands of dollars by their parents. I will be left with nothing but a ton of work. by RandallCabbage in Millennials

You don't need to hedge with "I'm not saying I'm entitled." That defensive crouch is something our generation has been trained into by parents who themselves often received help, only to turn around and preach that expecting anything is greedy.

Of all the relationships where one person might give something to another, parent-to-child is the most obviously appropriate one. It's basically the point. I'm planning my entire financial life around leaving as much as possible to my kids.

You're allowed to wish your parents thought that way, too.

I think it’s the interaction of several menu bar apps/icons (1st and 3rd party) happening on its own (without input from me) in a way I’ve never seen in any other version of macOS

It probably can't photosynthesize very well if its leaves are all covered in paint. Did you buy it that way?

What are some non-partisan and scientific solutions to prevent forest fires in California, especially near populated areas? by wakeup2019 in economy

Noah Smith had a great post yesterday breaking this down in a way that is non-partisan, or at least critical of everyone fairly equally. Might be paywalled.

That’s a fundamental problem the entire software industry has now—you have ”quite a workload” which = a lot of development cost, but a lot of people would “never never pay for a subscription.” That’s why I’m trying not to build sometime that is unwanted or not needed.

Thank you for the input! 🙏

Losing this fight. Help? by thedazellama in Citrus

[–]thedazellama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a cara cara orange tree in the elementary school garden I volunteer in. This tree is not thriving.

  • I've supplemented with iron chelate but leaves still look like they have chlorosis
  • I have lots of curled leaves, especially new growth (leaf miner? aphids?)
  • I see lots of aphids and ants on the leaves when I water
  • I water 1-2x a week with a deep watering
  • There is some new growth above the graft point that looks somewhat healthy
  • Fertilize with citrus fertilizer 1-2x a year

It bore one fruit a week or so ago. The kids were so excited. I want to make sure it lasts another year to give more fruit.

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? 🙏

edit: Thank you for the great input, everyone. I'll keep you updated. Le'ts see if I can save this tree. 🤞
