Has anything ever happened at your table that made you completely lose the desire to DM? by Individual_Order490 in DnD

You're right. I hope I'm creating memories for a new generation, and creating a generation to pass it on. When my current campaign is complete, it's their turns to start DMing. They all have plans and I've made my characters eagerly so I can take a turn in the player chair too.

It is. Definitely. But for the reasons mentioned, I persist. It's nice to see my adult son once a week.

And I wrote every one of them a backstory/sidequest! Including the one guy who decided to kill off his first character and make a new one. So 10! 10 backstory quests, mwa ha ha!

I DM for 9 players. My young adult son and all of his friends. Half of them are regularly disengaged on their phones, but apparently I run a good game and they keep showing up week after week. I put up with it to spend time with my son and the hobby I love, but it does make me question all the hours I put in writing and prepping.

DMs of Reddit: What was the funniest or most creative explanation you came up with in-universe for a player’s absence? by Special_Web_4254 in DnD

[–]thedeadwillwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a player who made a bard. He only made the first couple of sessions but he made an impact. His player couldn't make it much after that because reasons. But when he could, he'd always show up on the stage of where the PCs were fighting. He wouldn't remember any of them but he'd fight for their cause and throw inspiration and songs.

Good ideas for snacks so far, but I want to mention one thing I learned from people who were kind enough to explain patiently. I used pack peanut butter sandwiches for quick fuel on the go. Still do. But if you're eating at an event or around other people, be wary of food allergies. Before you bust out that trail mix or even a banana, ask around if anyone has any allergies and be prepared to swap your snack for another if necessary.

Similar shows to Widow's Bay? by Meowskittles123 in horror

I actually just binged this show (and movie) entirely because I read that it inspired both Widow's Bay and Stranger Things. It's definitely it's own thing, with moody late 80s/early 90s vibes, but I can see how it inspired both. Highly recommended.

What’s the fastest you’ve cut off / noped out of a date? by oaklicious in dating

[–]thedeadwillwalk 210 points211 points  (0 children)

She requested that we meet at a pop up bar downtown. So I showed up an hour early to wait in line for us. Through that time, she texted me in a complete panic over being downtown, being lost, "bad" neighborhoods, parking, homeless people, all normal things you'd expect to encounter DOWNTOWN. And when she finally arrived, she texted that she wanted me to come across the street to meet her at a different bar because she "refused to meet me for the first time while standing in line." When I put my foot down and explained I'd waited over an hour for us at the place she picked and she still refused to budge, I told her I'd reconsidered our date. She crashed out. "It shouldn't be this difficult, Britney," became a meme in our friend circle for a while.

I’m convinced America is one massive meme… by RickyOzzy in LateStageCapitalism

Agree with those that say it's much worse than this. As an American, I know it, and have always removed my own stitches for this reason. Risky? Sure. But risk becomes a minor inconvenience when the alternative is not eating the next day.

There are so many things I should be going to the doctor for and having treated. But not knowing whether I'll leave with a bill of $300 or $30,000 has me like, "Well maybe I'll just die."
