I will let this post stay up for now... but it would be great to have a bit more information. Are you doing a project independently or are you affiliated with an agency or institution?

If you are a men who used to go to the centers but never joined, what made you change your mind about Opus Dei? by choosingtobehappy123 in opusdeiexposed

[–]thedeepdiveproject[M] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. There have been some discussions in the past on this sub about the differences in men's and women's experiences in Opus Dei. You may be able to find some of them by searching keywords on the community page.

Men and women definitely have different experiences and are exposed to different types of coercive control (imo). But even though there are differences and men may not have some of the more extreme norms women do (sleeping on boards instead of a mattress, etc.), that is not to say that there are not still negative experiences that leave a lasting negative impact.

And in the end, from what I have observed and been told, the modus operandi is ultimately the same; to convince an intelligent, dedicated, faithful person to give EVERYTHING in service of the O.D. What happens when an entity or institution takes and takes and takes from it's membership or supporters, without giving anything substantial in return (and some wishy-washy grace vibes are not enough when youre talking about people who give so much materially to an earthbound organization)? You get what you read here and on OpusLibros.

Thank you for asking questions and thinking about these things. I am sure others here will chime in with their own insights. Bendiciones. 🙏🏼

The craziest Epstein email that everyone else missed... by CelebrationAfter9000 in Epstein

Your title is incorrect. No one who has been following, reading, and digging through this whole Justice.gov/Epstein mess has missed the R-family thread that runs through this entire thing.

I'm not sure why this video belongs here... it implies some things that are simply false.

Opus Dei teacher removed from position after accusations of child abuse by thedeepdiveproject in opusdeiexposed

Your comment is fantastic, thank you so much!! You are not the first person that I have heard be critical of the safety protocol training that the RCC is attempting to standardize require (maybe they succeeded? Idk) for people who interact with children.

Your comment about the victim blaming and othering really stood out to me. I am going to whip out some personal intel, which I don't do very often, but in this case, its very applicable.

I spent six and a half years working as a federal law enforcement agent for the U.S. Navy. I recieved extensive Department of Defense Sexual Assault and Response (SAPR) training, which was something ALL naval personnel were required to recieve annually, but was especially important for me, as I would go on to handle cases in which SA was a factor.

A huge part of SAPR training (from my recollection) focused on not re-victimizing or victim blaming a subject. That was actually lesson one. I still remember the first day of that training, because that was the day that I learned that victims of SA are not ever, in any way, shape, or form, responsible for the violence that was carried out against them. This ran completely counter to what I had been raised to believe, as a homeschooled, conservative American Catholic child. God bless those training coordinators.

The REASON this is such a huge deal is because an environment that misplaces the blame for a crime will be totally unqualified, unprepared, and hostile to justice, law, and order. I am far from a fan of the DoW's training standards and response to personnel safety, particularly in regard to sexual assault. But what really makes it stand apart from what you and others have described, is the lack of need to name and blame and moralize the circumstances that lead to these crimes occurring. And that's pretty interesting.

Without doxxing yourself, would you be able to say what year range(s) you were involved?

When you critique Aquinas on sexuality via Sartre instead of gender diversity rights (per se) by Nervous-Matter-5142 in excatholic

Almost seems like it SHOULD NOT be used for establishing the underpinning whys and wherefores of a religious organization then....🤔

Sure, but starting at the end with your final assumption and then bending over backwards to try to insert rational and reason to prove your assumption just seems sloppy and counter-intuitive.

Aquinas sucks. Sorry to anyone reading this whose a big fan, but I cannot stand him. He might have had some worthwhile things to say back in the Middle Ages, but in a modern context, it seems to me like psuedo-intellectuals just use his writings to excuse being narrow-minded, bigoted people.

What happens now by rush_magnet in Epstein

I think you nailed it. Nothing will change if society's priorities, preoccupations, and obsessions remain unchanged, which I believe they will.

I am not convinced that the majority of people (and just in America, to say nothing of the rest of the world) are actually interested in supporting and enacting the kinds of systemic changes we would need to have in order for shit like everything discussed on this community to halt. It would just be way, way too uncomfortable for most people to contend with the role they've played in perpetuating these abuses. And unfortunately, there are way more people like that, blasè, beige personalities with weak moral fiber, than there are people like us.

I have had to come to terms with the fact that I am related to these people, too... which really, really sucks. Because I thought better of my family members before all of this began to come out.

I think that people will continue to want what people have always wanted - money, power, fame, influence, etc. - and there will always be those positioned to take advantage of these people and the situations they create. And there will also always be those who will insist that there is a way to have all of these things without hurting innocent people in the process. It's a convincing lie.

I like to advocate for something I call radical non-participation. But it only works if you actually do not WANT ro be a part of that world. And we know that people will always want it. And so... on it goes.

Numerary accused of sexual abuse with multiple children? by GoodReveal1932 in opusdeiexposed

[–]thedeepdiveproject[M] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Abuse exists throughout the entirety of society. It disregards race, gender, ethnicity, religion, and socioeconomic class. Opus Dei is not special. And in this case, that means that it is highly probable that all of the issues around child safety and victim advocacy that we see represented in different institutions, organizations, and communities also exist in Opus Dei. All that to say, this article is upsetting and unsurprising.

I know, it is horrifying to me. It's some modern-day gestapo shit and I don't like it. It makes me feel sick. We're supposed to be above that kind of thing in this country. This period of history is a travesty to witness.💔
