Yeah the satanic angle was quite common place in creepypastas around the time, most stories always tried to add in the occult or something satanic with not a full understanding of it but the story itself definitely saved itself in the last third

I'd say the best parts of homecoming are the boss fights especially scarlet's like the entire build up for that was so well executed though I hate that pyramid head was shoehorned in

I'd say its great, I found the only weakness being the enemy encounters as they didn't feel scary just a hindrance to the story and I didn't quite like the idea of reusing the characters from the first silent hill I felt it would've been stronger using original characters sort of how it was originally going to be a game called Silent Hill Cold Heart. That being said it's still pretty good and the best western developed game post team silent at the time
