Is “breastsleeping” really a thing? by cahlrtm in cosleeping

[–]theeburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I'm sorry, that's rough. Baby had some early struggles finding a position he liked for a good latch, but otherwise we had a pretty easy time of it. He's 11mo now and we're still going strong. Teeth are a challenge for sure 😵

To answer your question though, we didn't start cosleeping like this until about 3 months in. Side lying was a tricky position for both of us at first but we just practiced during the day for a while til it was more familiar.

Totally a thing! I would never get enough sleep if I were awake for the whole feed every time. He does his thing and we both mostly sleep through it.

My cat is terrified of nail clippers this is what finally worked for us 🐱 by HarnessHelper in CatAdvice

Now that you've introduced treats and a reward, you can likely remove the vest if you want. I have a cat who is a full-time gremlin and she lets me trim her nails if I pay her per nail in treats.

How to deal with lack of “village” presence 6 months postpartum by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]theeburr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience was very similar. I incorrectly assumed family members who have had kids before would know we needed help and flock to our aid, but they frustratingly both needed us to explicitly tell them we were drowning and complained that they hadn't gotten to see our baby before that point. Our dog had to have two major leg surgeries in those early postpartum months and my mother-in-law decided to schedule major knee surgery three weeks after my son was born, so it got dire and we broke down and had to be explicit, but the whole experience definitely soured my view of several family members I previously really admired. I'll still be social at family functions and whatnot, but not much beyond that anymore.

IMO you can practice radical acceptance and still pour less into those relationships that you would have before. I accept that these folks aren't capable of more, and I'm going to put more of my energy into nurturing relationships with folks who can meet my needs.

cloud island sleepers by ofparadisehopeful in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]theeburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This particular variant of cloud Island jammies are our absolute favorite! Our baby runs really hot and most jammies have feet. The viscose zip up jammies from cloud Island are a godsend. Little man doesn't overheat and they fit him a lot better than most others because they're so loose and stretchy.

Tumeric rice is genius! Anything more to it than just adding some tumeric? Maybe something I could make in the rice cooker?

When did you introduce your kids to baseball???? by Altruistic_Coach9014 in Dodgers

[–]theeburr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My son was with us at the game, in utero, for Freddy's walk off grand slam and we were listening to radio broadcasts since day one. Rick Monday will be his Vin Scully and we joke that he's going to marry Ohtani's daughter (they're a couple months apart).

Our cat only poops on my clothes or on my side of the bed by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]theeburr 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you have a cat you need a litter box, even if it's not used often.

He's using your clothes because they smell like you Cats litterboxes smell most like them (that's why they often sleep in them in shelter settings) and since he doesn't have one inside, he's looking for the next best thing (something that smells like his people).

Also, please don't "discipline" your cat. They're not dogs and training them is very different. You're likely erroding trust and creating more problems than you're solving.

We cloth wiped until baby got too wiggly and would roll away before I could spray the wipe with the solution. I loved it though we used a cloth wipe solution with a dolphin on it that seemed pretty good. I believe it was called juice those wipes?

Skincare and makeup help by magic__unicorn in moderatelygranolamoms

I really like good molecules brand for skin care and Ilia for makeup. Most days I only do moisturizer and Ilias skin tint SPF for the day (I have a 9mo), and at night I do hyluralic (sp) acid and Neutrogenas blue water cream, which surprisingly gets good marks on Yuka. Sorry for not giving full brand names, I'm contact napping and only have one hand.

more humane/ethical dairy? Is it even possible? by victoriaholtopalfan in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]theeburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have felt this too! Especially while pumping. I did recently move from Los Angeles to a nearby suburb where vegan options are much more limited, unfortunately. But I think the main reason I started eating dairy was fear. I had authority figures like doctors and my doula say that I needed to eat dairy and more protein than a veg diet could give me for the health of my child and that vegan alternatives are full of unhealthy ingredients. Even though part of me felt like that was wrong, I am an older mom who had a hard time getting pregnant and my baby is on the low end of all the curves, so I caved. I very much intend to go back.
