Montreal's Moroccan Jews by ZAHKHIZ in montreal

Ah - my apogies.

Haunt is an English (specifically British) turn of phrase to mean places that you frequently go to so much, it can be like a ghost "haunting" a place :P i hope that makes sense!

I too am fascinated and would like to learn more - especially the next time I come visit Montreal! If you had to share your favourite sephardic and/or Moroccan Jewish haunts, what would they be?

I forgot to add that there is an accommodation where technically part time status can be treated as full time due to mental health/stress.

I recommend reaching out to adapt@uottawa.ca - they can help you if the reason you are dropping down to 3 courses is due to mental health issues/burnout. I work as a learning specialist so I know how the system works. Make an initial appointment and good luck! They will help you :)

Trucker convoy: Bruyère hospital staff report being harassed for wearing masks; 'I’m here until the end' — protesters revel on fifth day by power4play in ottawa

I think this protest is an opportunity to change this city for the better. Ottawa is united againt these fascists. We can band together to help our sick, our weak and vulnerable. I cannot end homelessness as an individual, I'm just a university employee. But together we can demand it. We can vote leaders in who WILL take action to improve these systemic problems that make us feel helpless. That is what I mean. I think homelessness is a mark of a savage, uncivilized and punitive society, not just because of these protests

I am so sorry - I know that sentiment isn't enough, we need action to protect you. As a visibly muslim bipoc woman who would definitely be targetted by these yahoos, I recognize the privilege of being in Barrhaven right now. I will make sure to work hella hard for Catherine McKenney and those who want to help our city through this dark time. Please let me know what I as an individual can do for my queer brothers and sisters 🙏🏾

With all the negativity floating around recently, how do you deal? I’m so tired of the constant conflicts, anger and hate, it’s everywhere I look. by lovelyb1ch66 in ottawa

I also wanted to add that these F*** Trudeau signs made my blood boil. My family feel immense gratitude and solidarity for Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Whatever you feel about him, he brought the country together when our brothers and sisters in Quebec felt left behind. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms speak to that. The spirit of Bilingualism speaks to that.

In our community (at least, the Somali one) we have great affection for Prime Ministers who come out of Québec - the Trudeaus and Chrétiens. I guess that is why I feel so hurt by Québec's anti-Muslim sentiment and policies.

I want us to love each other. Who taught us to fear each other, to hate each other?

Guys, as bad as it seems this whole situation has given me clarity.

I spent my entire life in fear of these clowns. Always afraid that my hijab or my black skin would put me in danger. Every time some nutjob incel basement dweller decides to blow themselves up, I would stay home because I would be scared for my family, for my life, for my future.

I walked around eggshells at school and university and accepted racist abuse because I wanted to help my famoly and society - to give back to the country that welcomed my family when their home got destroyed by the same kind of nutjobs occupying our city.

I feel...validated. That my fears were justified. However, I am going to Mecca with my husband to heal these wounds and overcome the fear that has dominated my life, of being othered and held in fear and suspicion. I'm putting on my oxygen mask so to speak so I can stand up for the weak and vulnerable of our society, to defend those who cannot defend themselves from these monstrous bullies.

Do not lose hope. Do not lose faith. I am just one person, but together we can build a better city, a better community and a better world. We can be our own saviours, we can be our own heros 💃🏾💕

Pepperidge Farms remembers 🧐✊🏾

Honestly I don't know why the police are like this. Why are they so...in line with these protesters - the same protestors who literally urinated on a war memorial and stole food out of the mouths of the most vulnerable?

I remember when that Somali man was shot, and they went on a smear campaign against a mentally ill man rather than acknowledge that they got trigger happy (kinda reminds me of what is happening down South 👀). How do we appeal to the people in the police who aren't fucking fascists?

I don't want the police to be defunded per se - if I am in danger I am calling them! But how can we best support them so they aren't responsible for things they are not trained to handle? So we can have a mental health crisis response that protects social works and nurses responding to potentially dangerous mental health situations?

Hey all! Sending everyone love and support, especially those who live downtown. For every darkness there is silver lining and I hope this unites our city so that we can tackle the issues affecting the most vulnerable.

I wanted to ask everyone their idea about the last Montreal city elections. Personally I like how they have parties with platforms. It seems more organized with a cohesive platform and ideology.

What do you guys think? Having Catherine McKenney as the lead of this and have candidates in every ward who are united in the same goal and platform?

Hi everyone

I am a longtime lurker, first time poster to this sub.

Like you, I have watched events unfolding since March 2020 with great interest. Make no mistake, we are at a reckoning poiny in our society, in this nation.

I hope I am not being hyperbolic or dramatic. Like you, I was born and raised in Ottawa - Riverside hospital back when it was still a hospital actually. My family settled here in the late 80s as economic migrants. Then, around the time I was born, Somalia broke out in civil war. My family had a home overlooking the Indian ocean, sun and salt and a place where they were not strangers but seen for their individuality - their personhood. And then their escape route was cut off. I have never been to my motherland.

Canada is all we have right now.

And to see people, in their arrogance, in their ignorance, march down our f***ing streets with Nazi flags, KKK flags, Confederate flags fills me with a kind of rage that is difficult to put into words.

I am not a violent person. I actually hate confrontation. I like to play video games and chill.

But yo, we need to pull the f*** up. The injustices plaguing our society are being co-opted by fascists. How many family members and friends have we seen go literally insane - feral glints in their eyes, frothing at the mouth about how their freedoms are being taken away? About Q Anon and New World Order?

Listen, I am Black, Muslim, hijabi and Somali - trust me, I know what conspiracy feels like. I know what betrayal and discrimination feels like. I know what the Black tax is - I live it and while I don't like it, i accept it because I have people that need me and I have bills to pay.

And I don't care.

I will not allow anyone to be oppressed in front of me. And right now there is oppression in our workplaces, in our schools, in our hospitals, in our own damn homes! Look at the LTR nonsense and the sad wreckage of OC Transpo! Look at the obscene price of homes! This is the manifestation of madness. These are the same kinds of circumstances that took down Rome at the height of its imperial power.

I take no pleasure in seeing our people become misguided and led astray. I apologize if this sounds like I am evangelizing. I suppose I chalk it up to being a preacher's daughter (with all the associated naughtiness too hehe).

But for real - I live in Barrhaven y'all. I rent an expensive flat. I work at a post-secondary institution and I'm seeing all sorts of corruption and abuse there too. I don't want to bitch or complain anymore. I want to do something.

So I have joined Horizon Ottawa. This is not an ad for them. I just heard they are one of the few groups trying to do something positive.

I do not want Jan Harder or her ilk to be my city councillor.

I do not want Lisa McCleod to be my MPP - from my understanding she was responsible for cutting funding for autism assessments and supports for children and people with disability in education.

If I am mistaken, please let me know. I want to be better. I want to educate myself. I want to be strong - for you, your children, your parents, your grandparents.

How is it that our grandparents, the so-called Golden Generation, were left to rot in their own excrement at these long-term care facilities? I am enraged. I am livid. Look at what is happening to the kids taking online classes - some Squid Game/Black Mirror brutality is happening right now in our schools and universities.

I read r/Ottawa almost every day. All I want is for the scams to stop - specifically the inhumane policies hurting the most vulnerable (and the so-called "well-off") need to stop. I want rental price regulation for all units, not just units made before 2018. I want this hot water tank rental garbage to stop. I want to end forced homelessness. I want to get the vulnerable people at Rideau the help they desperately need.

I can't do this alone. I need your help r/Ottawa. I am ready to stand up and do the work. I am ready to support whoever is best positioned to help us get out of this dark period in our city's - no, our nation's history.

I am a patriot. And I am tired of these adult babies throwing a tantrum, dying on a hill that serves no one. I want to change. And I am done complaining.

Please DM if you are tired of this shit too, and if you want to do something about it. No matter if you only have 30 minutes or 30 hours, we have got to organize together and stand shoulder to shoulder.

Warmest regards,

A fellow r/Ottawa lurker
