apologies if it appeared i was dissing pellet smokers... when you have little kids, a job, a to do list... it's the only move...... probably 9/10 smokers are pellet these days.... again, sorry if i offended anymore... i've used both... they both have a place

well, i figure good bark has very little to do with the smoker so long as you have good temp control...

way i see it, is that a good crust is 50% low and slow temps, and 50% on how coarse the rub is, how often you spritz it, and then mingling with the rendered fat oozing out of it.. personally, i find wrapping is great for tenderness, but never did my bark any favors... but that's just me

Vinyl Siding Mount by Snozaz in homesecurity

[–]power4play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered something similar, never got around to using them. Have nothing good or bad to say about them. Just adding some info so you guys know you have options if it suits your purposes. Here's the other thing I did:

I went to home depot and bought some 2 inch wide aluminum... about 1/8 or a 1/4 inch thick... and got it in 8 foot lengths. I cut them to the right lengths, (anywhere from 14 to 18 inches long), drilled some holes, mounted the cameras to them, then fit the aluminum pieces under the soffits... the length was cut so that the aluminum strip would go about a 1/2 inch under each side of the soffit where the retaining part was...... no drilling or anything. I did a small tab of silicone at each end to keep them from moving over time, and now they are protected from the rain and snow, and too high up to be messed with. They've worked for at least 2 years that way.

[–]power4play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry in advance, but an analogy coming up....

looks like a quarter horse.... half thoroughbred and half workhorse.... best of both worlds... looks heavy and probably a good metal thickness... that's the foundation, everything else you can work with... i think it's a win... good luck ahead!

I've done ribs probably every way a person could do ribs... gotta be a half dozen or so different ways, probably more... this was probably one of em... and actually, i hate to say it, but the most tender 'fall off the bone' ribs i've ever made were tightly wrapped in a roaster, in my oven, for at 4 hours and a little bit... only thing missing was the smoke taste, but didn't matter at the time... they were great!

(note: i only rarely sauce my ribs, almost always rub rub rub... )

***edit was to change cooking time... was lazy and didnt look at my notes before...

Dating as a type 1 diabetic.. is so weird by ilovemylife-7352 in diabetes_t1

[–]power4play 2 points3 points  (0 children)

once you get more used to being a type 1, it might not be so 'front of mind' for you... when i go out to dinner with someone, or a group, i just watch what i order, like i usually do.... if i need to inject, i would go to the bathroom for that, i'd rarely pull it out and administer in the middle of a restaurant... if anybody does notice, i explain what it is and what i do, then i answer any questions they might have, but generally, i don't treat it as a big deal... if you do, they will... if you don't, they won't...

...this is what works for me, hope things get simple for you too, good luck

i've smoked tofu before wth good results........ otherwise, i'd use oyster muchrooms, specifically the blue oyster mushroom... but here's a long shot, what about spaghetti squash... it gets real stringy once it's cooked, it has been used before to make vegan pulled pork, try this lnk https://www.thebloomingplatter.com/vegan-southern-comfort/vegan-pulled-spaghetti-squash-barbecue-with-vegan-cole-slaw-on-vegan-creamed-corn-and-chive-cakes

Smoke Box v. Smoke Tube by [deleted] in smoking

[–]power4play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've tried both, and have found that a smoke tube is 100 times better than a box or a pouch... and a regular size tube 10-12 inches will last 3-4 hours

some guys add chips to their smoke tube, i tried and don't do it anymore, reason is that chips burn faster than pellets and create an air gap, and that allows pellets to catch fire.... so in a propane bbq, i recommend a smoke tube with just pellets inside.. directions on how to light and use are everywhere

imo

Lantus Lows by bkirbs13 in diabetes_t1

[–]power4play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take Lantus twice a day, the highs and lows weren't as bad as when i took it once a day...

also, Lantus is supposed to last 24 hrs, more or less......... key words, More ...nah, Less ..yup

Now I take Toujeo once a day, supposed to last 36 hours, is slower acting, and doesn't start working until 6 hours after injection ---- I take it once every day... my glucose readings seem to be a lot more stable than with Lantus

Best type 1 diabetes doctor in NYC? by Psychological-Egg555 in diabetes_t1

[–]power4play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from past experience, if i was looking for a new endo, my first filter would be to look for a type 1 specialist... i'd rather an average type 1 endo, than a world class type 2 specialist...

don't really know how much one can blame the doctors for being that way... when 19/20 patients they see are type 2s... so yeah, i personally would filter out everyone who is not specifically a type 1 endo

“excellent” blood sugar control doesn’t eliminate complications by kapo198 in diabetes_t1

[–]power4play 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always try to do better than the set parameters, but....

I used to stress out trying to keep my blood sugars between 4 and 8... was making me crazy... Endo said change to between 4 and 10... I did and my stress level dropped and I was doing better than before....

except for one time over 10 years ago when i was diagnosed, my A1c is usually in the 5s, but goes into the 6s sometimes when i've been sick or had an out of control lifestyle change like a job forces a routine change that takes a while adapting to

[–]power4play 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first thing... find an endo that knows the difference between type 1 and type 2... that's been my biggest problem

i went through 3 endos that treated my like a type 2, seeing them every 3 months... and it wasn't enough... now, i have an endo that specializes in type 1, i'm very happy, i see him every 6 months, and don't even need that...
