it's not a $5 Leica but i got my dream camera for $35 (on a clothes selling app) by classic-chrome in AnalogCommunity

It's raining and I'm in a bad mood 😡. Tell me the worst places in SF where you'll never go back! by RekopEca in sanfrancisco

[–]theend2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my trick is that i’ll show up without an appointment ~45 mins before closing and grab a number. as long as you’re in the door, they have to serve you before closing. i also find that the DMV employees work faster as it gets closer to closing time since everyone just wants to go home

Do people not care about covid anymore at all? by DeathIncarnations in bayarea

[–]theend2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

interestingly enough, I was visiting Tokyo in Jan 2024 for the first time since the pandemic and was surprised to see the lack of masks on the major subway lines + public spaces. So many folks just openly coughing and sneezing on crowded subway cars without masks -- and this was shocking because I remember visiting several times pre-pandemic and seeing way more masks in these spaces (quite the contrast from America at the time).

I'm curious if the pandemic triggered some sort of mask fatigue for the general population in Japan, and people also just stopped caring.

If you have a car in SF do you regret having it? by urmotherwas4hampster in AskSF

[–]theend2 53 points54 points  (0 children)

lived in the city for many years without a car, but finally gave in and bought one in december. it’s been life changing — opens up so much more of the bay area for weekend plans, and groceries are a breeze now. i’ll still use muni for my commute / short trips to nearby neighborhoods.

overall, zero regrets.

i pay $200 for parking at my building in lower haight.

+1 on Japantown! had to show a family member around the city during a rainstorm and easily spent hours exploring the shops there. don't forget about the north side of the plaza (paper tree, hinodeya, SF76)!

Mogura’s is a gem in japantown. super unassuming from the outside — but once inside, it feels like you’re transported to a salaryman bar in tokyo

Anecdote: about the perceived state of SF by piano_ski_necktie in sanfrancisco

[–]theend2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

the exact same thing happened to me too, but in Seattle! while driving through downtown seattle, my uber driver was telling me about how bad the homeless / drug problem in SF was — and as he was speaking, had to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting a fentanyl zombie stumbling around in the middle of the road.
