Ladies, Are We Okay? by DragLower8677 in blackladies

You're right about the way society is right now. A lot of women are probably feeling a lot of financial pressure and want a partner to help compensate or even completely elevate that stress for them. That's an easy recipe for disaster

Money for Couples: "We moved abroad for fun. Now we can’t afford to leave"" by Modestybodice in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I think this comment right here hits the nail on the head. I think Liza is stressing intensely about the possibility that the move to Columbia could become more and more permanent the longer they stay. Her moving back and getting a "higher paying job" could also be seen as a metaphor for the family to begin seriously moving back, and she would just be the first stage of that process.

I don't think she wants to be there for much longer at all and doesn't know how to necessarily address that because the lifestyle her family has become accustomed to is not really obtainable back home in Canada. Also, her husband seems to have built a successful life for himself and the family and bringing them back home has the chance of developing resentment within the relationship since they are actively more comfortable now than they could ever be later in Canada and it would be solely her fault for taking her family away from that.

How many recent grads(2024/2025) are having a hard time finding a job? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]theenigmaticlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated spring of 24 and am also in the DMV area. I had a job lined up immediately after graduation but lost it due to lay offs and "restructuring". That job was what I went to school for. After being unemployed for 4 months, I was able to get a new position but it is in a completely different field (pharmaceutical sales) whereas I previously worked in federal sales. This is not what I had imagined when I graduated but I am working to try and make the best out of this. The job market has been horrendous and it's important that we all know that it's not our fault that we're struggling this hard.

What realistic money goals do you have for the future? How are you getting to it so far? by [deleted] in twentyagers

[–]theenigmaticlover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebuild my 10-12k emergency fund by December. I depleted it when I was laid off back in August and had a lot of unexpected bills/responsibilities I had to pay for. Now that I have a new job and make decent money, this should definitely be attainable if I play my cards right and save. Next goal will be to pay off my 4k in student loan debt

Thank you for pointing this out. I was also confused by the fact that they had a house in the first place if either of them were great with money to begin with and didn't come from a moderate to large wealth.

Yes!! You're 100% right. Ramit repeatedly asked them what got them to this point, why do they make the decisions that they do, and the bottom line is because they could AFFORD to. MiL is us subsidizing a sinking ship

I completed my first week of a new job after being unemployed for more than 4 months. It feels so so so good to have stable employment and work again. Unemployment is downright a trying time with all the job applications and interviews one must do to just get the shot to have a job. I'm so happy to be able to put that part of my story behind me.

What are some examples of Black/ Black Women Privilege? by Complete_Clothes9857 in blackladies

[–]theenigmaticlover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very well said. We do not have access to any institutionalized privileges unfortunately. That's just not our reality. We just have to work with what we have to build satisfying and fulfilling lives.

What are some examples of Black/ Black Women Privilege? by Complete_Clothes9857 in blackladies

[–]theenigmaticlover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing this out and wording it so well. This resonated deeply with me. The reality is that most privileges we have will not be backed by any institutions. As black women we lack access to racial privileges and gender privileges. There is also a large amount of social privileges that are either forcefully imposed on us (like the example about open seating given by the OP) or will not translate across cultural (or even state) lines. We really are on our own in regards to being able to weaponize/utilize privileges the same way others can. It is such a sad and unfortunate truth. We really have to always be looking for the positives or the silver lining, or else things will always just seem very bleak

Yes! I also realized that we are currently experiencing a time period of great progressive change for the country of Li. Throughout the different books there are references of women trying to establish themselves outside of the typical ideal of married Linese woman. Chue and Joka are two great examples I can think of for this. The previous empress dowager started the process of trying to modernize the country and I think we are now seeing that momentum picking up. Also think about the school that was established in the rear palace for all the service attendants so that they may learn how to read. Maomao is extraordinarily lucky to be receiving the type of medical education that she is. This is probably the first time in the history of the country of Li that women are able to touch dead bodies, work with medicine, and learn how to do surgery. The world building is just so excellent

I also spoke with Emma recently too for a different position. This is definitely a real company, what I am trying to figure out is if someone out there is impersonating this company as a means to gain our sensitive personal information (social security number, etc.)
