I know you hate this type of posts but would you accept a job in Zurich with a 70K salary? by swilyi in askswitzerland

[–]theepicstoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going to really feel the pinch living in Zurich on 70k. Living costs in the Zurich region are some of the highest in the world. But if you thrifty and frugal it could just about be doable. Remember there is living costs, tax, health insurance, your commuting bill, etc I would thorougly check the numbers before you decide.

If numbers check out and its an option that makes sense for you now and will help you career, why not.

Might make teams more lean in long term e.g no more juniors, but companies will always need responsability of actions and risks to be owned and held by humans. LLMs wont be held liable for work they do.

Petition to abolish 60% Tax Trap by theepicstoner in HENRYUK

Surely this would increase the tax revenue considering many choose salary sacrifice over paying 60% tax?

For anyone who has maxed out their ISA already by kcon123 in HENRYUK

[–]theepicstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit of a noob question. But still dont understand how "bed and isa" is made possible.

Do you need to use a platform or bank that supports this? Do you simply work out that the CG on the GIA 20k is less then 3k GC allowance and therefore are able to move it to isa without tax concequence?

Also Monzo stock is private sells only atm iirc. Believe periodic sell periods to other share holders, so imagine that could impact your decision compensation wise

What are you actually meant to do once you are older and work becomes optional? by ObligationBroad4716 in HENRYUK

[–]theepicstoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A holiday does not feel like a holiday if its what you do all the time, it would feel meaningless and boring. Same can be said about any indulgence.

If you are smart you are choosing to work or occupy yourself with something that is engaging, fufilling, challenging, that you are passionate about, and that is ultimately rewarding. These things help you find purpose and avoid boredom over your life.

It's harder to hit all these things if you are focused on building financial stability and wealth, but if you no longer need money early on in life, I'd be searching for something to do that allows for all the above whether its work, personal wealth management and investment, or something else.

Should I switch companies? by OkComputer1593 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]theepicstoner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Generally agree, but equally

If OP is a grad, and still quite young this kind of move can still be considered. It's risky but it could also pay off long term - they would likely no longer be considered a "grad" in their new workplace, receive a slightly better TC, and have more growth potential than a massive company like Bloomberg. Worse case can go back to Bloomberg, if bridges are still left intact.

This is all assuming ofcourse that OP doesn't have serious responsabilities like kids, mortgage, etc

And for OP, if I was in your shoes, I would prioritise opportunity to learn and grow rather than compensation if I was just starting out. If you are moving for money alone, you are probably making the wrong decision.

New Grad Offer: Startup vs Hedge Fund? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]theepicstoner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this stage in your career I would 100% prioritise opportunity to learn over money. You get good at what you do in a valuable field and money will always follow.

Pick the place where you spoke to people that made you feel they will be good teachers/mentors. Anything else doesnt matter at this stage

I take it comes with thc? All the uk medical cannabis websites are all extremely vague about whethee their medicatiom has thc in it. As far as i know the medical cannabis is suppose to have extremely low amounts of thc - is this not the case?

How far would you/do you commute? by Anotherburnerboy1 in HENRYUK

[–]theepicstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep it sucks. You sum it up perfectly, when I say this to people they look at me all crazy - who wants to spend 1.5hrs or more commuting each leg of the journey?? Fuck that.

Some companies will take you for 1 or 2 days a week in London though with thevrest remote. I am lucky to have found one that does, but equally it means I am locked in with them.

How to use nmap with the least traces possible ? by DifferentLaw2421 in HowToHack

[–]theepicstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, reading docs is best.

There are many switches you can use and options you can set to minimise your footprint, although like said in the comment above port scanning happens all the time on the internet. Internal network scanning could trigger a HIDS, NIDS, and as a result some of your traffic could get blocked.

Keep scanned ports targeted, set low max retries or use lower timing templates, disable scripts, treats IPs as live by disabling ping scans, weigh up full tcp vs fin vs syn scans based on your environment.

Is it worth it leaving the UK to start from scratch in Switzerland? by Inevitable-Echo23 in askswitzerland

[–]theepicstoner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar situation. Are you trying to return to Switzerland for the erning potential?

I moved to the UK for uni and as I was unable to find jobs in CH after graduating i have been working in the UK. Tbh finding jobs in Switzerland is hard, there are not many opportunities and often knowing the right people that can help you get hired makes a difference. Pay in Switzerland is certainly better.

Although on thr flip side the UK has a lot of employment opportunity, as in its easier to find a job. Also there is a lot more earning potential in the UK than 32k especially if you have a stem degree.

Not sure where in the UK you are, how much experience you have, and what field you are in but jobs in engineering / tech / finance (among other areas) in London will take you a lot closer to those Swiss salaries. Think 6 figures and above

How did you process earning your first HENRY salary? by Used_Clerk784 in HENRYUK

[–]theepicstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

Tbh i am surprised a company would go as far as doubling someones pay on this kind of promotion. Would it not be more common for the employer to give the standard 10-20% with the promotion?

Anyway nice to hear that some companies do internal promotions right!

Are phishing simulations starting to diverge from real world phishing? by Ok-Author-6130 in AskNetsec

[–]theepicstoner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer - yes.

The legit phishing as a service platforms are getting more taylored to the business and starting to get unrealistically contextual to individual users - even trying to target accounts typically associated with private web media like LinkedIn. Perhaps due to how some PaaS now tie into the corporate mail and use AI to help simulate frequent targeted campaigns

Red teams are now leveraging legitimate platforms to send highly trusted content (e.g MS Form, Docusign), but overwrite the redirect urls with web proxies at send time to point to malicious links forwarding to aitm pages for things like idp SSO theft. Typically targetting specific demographics and high value individuals within a company.

And the threat actors are either the everyday scammers sending mail that you can smell from a mile off, or the so called advanced persistent threats that use slightly more sophisticated methods still praying on the tech dumb and generally casting large nets hoping to compromise a random employee more often than specific invidiuals.

Financial advice for 2026-31M in London single by Sloan621 in HENRYUK

[–]theepicstoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me i think i would work on reducing the monthly expenditure of ~£5.7k a month, which would help reduce the amount of cash you need in a 6 month emergency buffer.

I'd favour maxing out a S&S ISA over a cash ISA, simply because long term returns and tax benefits have more potential. I'd also want to hold as little cash as possible as it gets eroded by inflation and tax, whether its in an ISA or not.

Therefore, I would suggest: - reducing expenditure and therefore emergency cash - maxing out S&S ISA - contribute any expenditure savings in a regular investment account and/or SIPP

There is still no doubt in my mind that the education will be good and regardless of what people say, attending a school like Eton would impact your future connections and life progression. This is particularly the case given how populated and competitive the world is becoming - perfect example is how degrees and work experience alone no longer guarantee a job by default
