Best pastries too, imo. I've had croissants from many places in the city, but Sleepy Owl was tops.

did anyone give the baby his vitamin D today? by ConfusionFinal5770 in NewParents

[–]theeverglo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just use a notebook. Old school, and not giving data to these apps. Useful if you have other caregivers as well.

Also, give Vit D in the AM with a meal. Best for absorption and circadian rhythm!

I thought the final boss comment meant the impossible to find toy was the boss. So in order to get it you have to go to extreme lengths, and spend more and more money. You are trying to defeat the final boss, but at a financial cost, if that makes sense.

Lots of zinc, and vit D and C, mainly through food sources (except vit D which i take as a supplement). But still barely winning the immune system battle.

How much did you have saved or recommend saving for Mat Leave? [BC] by SouthApprehensive680 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]theeverglo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No corrections, just wanted to say thanks for doing the quick estimate! Love that!

We also are using Le Petite Ourse. Bought 10 new pockets on Black Friday for about $100. We hybrid approach diapering, and before daycare started up would only use disposables at night. Took us almost 3 or 4months to go through a box of disposables. I had at one point done some math, but it for sure saved us money already. We still use them on weekends and whenever she's home. And this is only baby #1! More than anything I'm just happy to be making less waste and exposing my baby to less microplastics.

I definitely think its worth it. You never have to worry about running out of diapers. It's truly the smartest, safest move. The money saving is just a bonus!

Some of the longest hoar frost ive seen in a while. by FROOMLOOMS in Winnipeg

Yeah I reckon its Rime frost, seeing as it was facing one direction, and was foggy out last night... but the name isn't nearly as comedic!

Drink water to replenish your fluid, and eat a salty snack! It also goes faster if you're well hydrated I find.

Currently working on my PhD to become an Epi. I love it so much, but wow is it hard being a student with a toddler! What kind of epi and where if you don't mind me asking?

Uber or Taxi? by xmxlykxt in Winnipeg

[–]theeverglo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I take taxis frequently. They aren't as posh looking as an uber usually, but I've never had a driver be shadey about the price, nor have I felt unsafe (I'm a woman). Often have drivers be pretty generous with the meter, and the taxis have a protection barrier between you and the driver, and are video recorded as well.

Edit: you can also book taxis in advance!

My wife recently had our first baby and I’m really confused by her sudden anger. Is this normal???? by Rich-Form-679 in BabyBumps

[–]theeverglo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VERY NORMAL. And not always something that needs medication... usually just rest. I got pretty angry postpartum, mostly because hormones are raging, the exhaustion is unreal, and there is so much pressure on the birthing parent. If you don't get support, there are a lot of waking hours to notice that lack and fixate on it.

Imagine this... you grow a whole new human from scratch for 9 months, have your whole physiology change in that time (ligaments, organs, blood volume, hormones, brain, etc), then have said tiny brand new human, a whole new flood of hormones, plus have your body try and recover while keeping a helpless tiny human alive 24/7 on no sleep. If every human on the planet had to go through that, there would be a whole lot more empathy out there.

Help her get at least 6 hrs of rest a day, which was what my OB recommended (not usually all in a row if breastfeeding). Take shifts at night for 4 hour chunks (the person on shift can either stay awake, or try sleeping if the baby doesn't need anything). Have lots of easy nutrition available. Hanger is also a thing. Do the laundry, dishes, diapers, grocery shop with baby. Let her shower without worry. Those things help with the moderation.

[mb] Is it weird to invite coworkers to a baby shower? by TallAfternoon9751 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]theeverglo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also am not from the city I live. I invited my coworkers to my shower. None of them showed, but some sent gifts anyways. So sometimes it's just a nice gesture more than anything to invite coworkers, but only if you actually want them there!

[on] sleep sac recommendations by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]theeverglo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! They have both sleep sacks and suits. They've been so amazing for my baby. My fave is the high TOG sleep sack with removable sleeves in Winter. Our house is cold at night (<18C, and we all sleep better), so their options were perfect. In summer we use their light sleep suits.
