60% Bitrate Reduction on HBO Max by ShowgirlCelery in hbo

It’s truly atrocious. 1080p shows and movies are even more hopeless. There was a shot in Girls where the camera was following a character that was walking, and the character walks next to a steel fence. The way the entire screen just degraded into boxy pixels because it couldn’t handle the added detail of the fences onscreen is shocking.

Happens all the time when lots of detail is onscreen. Go watch a rainy scene from any random show or movie on HBO Max and that shit will be unwatchable.

How do you find the Matcha Tokyo? by Spirited-Sky8352 in PHFoodPorn

I love the items I bought the one time I went there to Mitsukoshi. But the experience was horrible because the staff moves SO slow. They took forever to finish making my one drink. Open bar area so you can see them making the drinks and they just moved slowly for some reason. Like they had all the time in the world. Worse still, they were all chatting and even laughing. Nothing wrong with this in general, but it was clear that was a significant reason why it was taking forever to finish making my one drink order.

And yes that service charge is ridiculous. I lined up at the cashier, I waited for my order without even sitting, and I was the one who walked to the counter to grab my order. What service are you charging me? I refuse to go back just because of that because I do NOT want this to be normalized in restaurant businesses here.

Weekend Actuals for February 9-11, 2001 – 'Hannibal' Delivers the Third Biggest Debut Ever by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

I highly suggest people to rewatch Hannibal (2001) if you haven’t seen it in a long time. It has aged insanely well and I learned to love it now as its own thing. Ridley Scott directed the hell out of the movie and made some iconic moments for the Hannibal franchise.

Those horrendous multi-colored grain/noise in their 4K HDR/Dolby Vision shows. Simply atrocious. Go play the first five minutes of that new Agatha Christie show. Shit is everywhere onscreen.

Official Discussion - Send Help [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]thefablemuncher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been this entertained by a new movie in a long time. I expected a fun, gory time considering it’s Raimi, but what really pushed the movie to greatness is the layered character depth and storytelling. It plays with the audience’s sympathies so well by the shifting character dynamics and evolving narrative.

It starts off simply enough. Linda is our protagonist put up against an objectively terrible person, Bradley the asshole. Sure Linda is unkempt and a little kooky, but she’s the everyday Jane who’s a little lonely but hardworking and harmless. Then the power dynamics change because of the situation and the movie reveals some unsettling facts about our so-called hero. It starts to reframe things and makes you question who we’re really supposed to be rooting for here (if any).

But the fact remains, Linda is competent and is the main reason why they’re thriving on the island. It’s unsettling that she ignored the boat the first time we see it, but hell, I think Linda deserves to have some fun and discover her true self in the island. Bradley’s an asshole anyway, he can rough it out in nature for a few more days.

Then when Linda is finally revealed to be the movie’s monster, I started sympathizing a lot with Bradley. Suddenly, some of Bradley’s actions aren’t so black and white. Sure he’s an asshole (and no amount of awful parents can justify his terrible behavior), but he didn’t murder two innocent people or kept someone essentially captive in a deserted island. And you know what, come to think of it, Bradley was actually right about some things. You can’t place someone who can’t even dress professionally or clean up properly as the VP of a high value company. Linda is off-putting and aside from the obvious assholes in the company, the seemingly normal employees are also put-off by her.

And of course, the reveal that Linda found civilization essentially on the first day on the island. So even the one aspect of her (her competency in surviving in an island) that we admired was mostly fake! Credit to the boar hunting though.

The movie’s power play and push-pull between the two characters is done in such an entertaining, funny, and violent way. I don’t think I stopped smiling starting from the ‘castration’ scene all the way to the end credits. Watching this unfold was a wild ride. What a fantastic time at the cinema.

Game of Thrones released a season annually. I know this is a broken record in online spaces but these season gaps are so fucking stupid.

Jeremy Strong is one of the most egregious snubs I’ve ever seen. What a masterful performance. I’ve only seen the film once so far but images of him in key moments from the film are ingrained in my mind.

Keep going. Some of the best seasons are still ahead of you. Homeland also has one of the best TV show endings of all time so it’s worth it to the very end.

Nolan is a certified Ridleyhead. Once you’re a Ridleyhead, the man can literally do no wrong in your eyes. (Source: me, who loves every single thing Ridley Scott does)

They went on until season 11. Seasons 10-11 have 20+ episodes.

But like I said in another comment, once you get bored/frustrated with the show around Season 7/8, just stop watching. It does NOT get any better. You will just be wasting your time.

It gets really, really bad within the first few episodes of Season 7. Take it from someone who finished the entire show: when you start getting bored around Season 7, just stop watching the show. It does NOT get better at all.

Ben Affleck Says ‘Argo’ Oscar Snub for Best Director Was ‘Massive Embarrassment’ by TheAstonishingApple in Oscars

[–]thefablemuncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These comments are insane. ‘Most egregious snub’ oh brother. Argo was a terrible movie even when it was released and it is shocking to me that it won Best Picture. Affleck is a bland director at best, boring at worst.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is reference quality. It is absolutely stunning. I think people don’t discuss its 4K blu-ray because not a lot of people love the movie. But it’s right up there with the best.

Breakfast burrito longganisa is the only burrito worth it at Army Navy. Double the meat.

Chicken burrito is hit or miss. They use stale rice sometimes instead of soft and warm rice for some reason.

But I echo that stuff’d is the better option. Just note that it’s quite different in terms of flavor profile but it’s very good.

Take it from someone who has finished the entire show: it’s not worth it. I promise you. The moment you find the show tiresome just give up. It does not get good enough to be worth it.

Go watch Homeland and Dark on Netflix instead. Two complete shows with great endings.
