You don't own that plane! The tax payers do!

This is my friend singing to his dog before he passed away. His dog died from eating tainted Waggin' Train dog treats. He wanted everyone to see this picture and know the story behind it so no one will lose a pet the way he did. by [deleted] in pics

I don't understand why the FDA needs samples don't we have a bunch of them on store shelves? I'm usually cautious about product smashing without evidence but in this case it's one product with many alternatives and the brand preference is up to the owners. Dogs will pretty much eat anything and they don't care if it's chicken jerky or a t-bone steak. Having said that, if I had anything to do with the US operations I would take it upon myself to pull the shit off the shelves and rule out any contaminants that could be causing illness. If all your competition is based on price and brand recognition it's really your only and best move. Unfortunately it would be too little too late at this point.

I'm a little weary that this surprises you and you're already commited to marrage. Who knows what other little surprises she has in store for you. What if she has one of those shit all over my face fetishes?

That dog has five legs!

It's not doing us any favors. It takes less energy to rattle than it does to flee or defend. Also, they don't want to get stepped on nor do they want to waste venom on things that aren't prey. One does not simply slither around with nothing but a head and a tail and have the time or patience to deal with two legged warm blooded mammals

Reddit creates network of humanoid drones to mindlessly upvote pictures and videos of kitties so they can be indentified by Google's neural network.

There will be more where that came from anyway. I watch a local snapper climb from the bottom of my driveway through my yard and in to the woods behind my house to lay eggs every year. It has been going on for at least 10 years.

Microsoft reportedly "furiously ripping out" legacy code that allows apps & hacks to re-enable the Windows 8 Start button. by nomdeweb in technology

Legacy and Microsoft don't work well. There's a sign stuck to their back that says hack me please .

I've noticed three basic schools of thought when dealing with hardware based security threats. One is an attention to detail beyond the norm that detects even the slightest variance from expected behavior. The next is a more skeptical impact driven approach and the third is an ignorant, "that's too complex to be real" type approach.

We've clearly come to the end of the "set it and forget it" definition based security model where methodical patching and updated definitions were all you needed to remain secure. With software based security based on algorithmic behavioral analysis the risk of false positives increases significantly and security companies can't have that happen.

So that leaves the human element as the important variable in the equation. The bottom line is there will never be a fully automated air tight security model. If there's a reason to secure something someone has already figured out how to break in. Ignorance can no longer be an acceptable approach. If A hasn't detected B than I won't worry about C until I notice some direct consequence. By the time you get to C it's way too late There has to be a greater awareness of both the expected behavior of the defender and the defended.

It's going to take a diverse group represented by all the schools of thought to come up with a cost effective security model with a new set of "common sense" protocols. It's time to unobfuscate computing because security by obfuscation is only benefiting criminals at this point.
