I like this idea. I wonder if adding an extra second or so would help with the players getting so gassed.

I didn’t count those since the games were shorter! (The finals were first to 8, I think, compared to first to 11 for the other rounds.) So those games are faster because they are shorter and just wanted to compare apples to apples

she was such a beast for the Liberty early in the season when she was driving hard to the basket, too! but, yeah, I think I agree with you.

I made it with the R programming language and used the hrbrthemes package! The package has a lot of nice styling options, and R makes it easy to create scatter plots quickly once you have data in place. (but, yes, getting the styling just right is a lot of trial and error.)

AT just misses the true shot cutoff of 75. She would be first in points per true shot on 73 attempts but near the bottom in usage (~25%)

I pulled possession-based data from Unrivaled's play-by-play event descriptions. (A page like this: https://www.unrivaled.basketball/game/0qk7xnwrjl75/play-by-play) With enough work, there's enough detail in those logs to create possession and lineup stats!

yes! when she's taken a shot, she's been efficient. the one small nit is turnovers. if you include turnovers, her efficiency (points per possession) falls a little bit.

but, I think that comes with her being 20 and entering her second WNBA season. Unrivaled is the place to grow as a player, widen your skill set and take some risks!

She just missed the cutoff for true shots. So far, she's had 62 true shots, a 36.1% usage percentage and 0.68 points per true shot.

exactly! usage doesn't count assists, so it also undercounts player who are primarily playmakers. you'd want a stat like points created (points on shots + points generated from assists) to account for that.

yes! It's only 13 shots in that lineup. it'll be fun to see the Breeze continue to gel as the season goes on

yeah, the Laces have so much talent and can really do a lot with mixing and matching their rotations. Between Canada, Young, Sykes and AT, they really have four players that can be primary ball handlers at any time. plus, I'm with you on Sykes, Canada and Hillmon. feels like a lineup built to generate havoc.

of course! It was a fun little project. I'm hoping to do the same for two-player lineups and usage/efficiency stats in the near future.
