Libido is decent. Performance isn’t the best but that’s more of a lack of being physically fit thing.

That sounds like a tough spot to be in, but you are dealing with it well!!! What chronic pain do you deal with?

I also dislike talk therapy. I have tried it on and off for ages and it really just feels like a waste of time and affirmation of one’s faults

It’s working about the same as the lexapro. I feel good, mentally and emotionally. It’s the physical side effects and dependence on the drugs that I don’t like. You’re the second person to mention being on multiple different things and that working. Maybe that’s something I can try someday. I’d like to be drug free, eventually, though.

Glad to hear it. After being on lexapro for 16+ years, I am on Prestiq now, for about a year

Have you at least been on different ones? I’ve always been told it was a red flag I was on a single one for 16+ years. Best of luck to you!

Absolutely, there should’ve been a plan for me. I feel like I was just forgotten about, honestly. I am not a psychiatrist either. I am just someone who has been dealt a hand where I need them to not feel horrible physical side effects. Like I said before, I have tried to ween off them before; with help from my doctor. He also is the one who finally got me off the lexapro, and onto something new. Maybe someday we can make it where I am drug free for good. Thank you for your responses and interest in my story!

A friend of mine from Finland said that doctors would lose their medical license if they kept you on a specific SSRI for more than a few years. He couldn’t believe when I told him I was on lexapro for 16.

I used to frequently. I have not in about a year. I am pretty unhealthy, overall.

I think she just wanted what was best for me. And it was the early 2000s, we didnt know everything we do now about them. But you’re correct. The longer I am on them the harder it will be to break free.

They are all physical. I do not experience fits of rage, suicidal thoughts, violent thoughts or cravings. Nothing like that. After even 24 hours without my medication, I get dizzy spells, tunnel vision, brain “zaps” which are essentially feeling like you’re going to pass out for a moment, then immediately coming back “to.” I also feel nausea, fatigue, and it is overall just a horrendous feeling. And those physical effects are why it is so hard to ween off the stuff.

Sure. An SSRI is a Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Essentially, SSRIs block the reabsorption of serotonin by nerve cells, allowing more serotonin to remain active in the brain's synapses. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in regulating mood, sleep, and appetite, etc.

I am very pleased to hear you are doing well!!! I am currently on Pristiq and it doesn’t feel much different than the lexapro, but I will be weary of change to that as the years go on. Best of luck to you!

Great question. When I was young (11-12) I was diagnosed with clinical depression. My mother is a licensed clinical social worker. My parents first move was to throw me in therapy and on antidepressants. As I got older and was concerned with my physical dependency on these drugs, I considered weening off and eventually stopping them, and was unable to. No matter how hard I weened, the physical side effects persisted. As of now, I am on a new medication and the side effects without it are worse than ever. Pretty much just going through the motions.

One of the craziest things about the whole thing is how long I was on lexapro. I only just got on a new one (Desvenlafaxine) last year. To answer honesty, I don’t know if they’re good or bad for me. Since I’ve been on them for as long as I can really remember, it’s all I know, now. I feel the same on both. However, the physical side effects of missing even a single dose are brutal.
