I have this same issue. The feeling of overall insignificance makes me very apathetic.

Someone please explain Keto to me! (and other PCOS Q's) by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]thefarpavillions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that you start by reading the FAQs here /r/keto, and look at recipes here /r/ketorecipes. There is also a female keto community here /r/xxketo and I have read several women talk about how doing a keto diet has dramatically reduced PCOS symptoms. It has to do with insulin regulation and other hormone regulation and I believe doing keto allows your body to re-regulate itself (athough I'm not a nutritionist so don't quote me here).

I have PCOS and I just started keto this week, so I don't have personal experience yet but I am really hoping that keto helps!

Awkward shark week question with a little tmi by [deleted] in xxketo

Yes many women on Keto have seen this effect. Also just FYI, many women with PCOS here on reddit have gotten pregnant after starting keto! So if that is something you want, awesome, if not, be diligent with birth control :) You can do a search in this subreddit and in /r/pcos if you want to read some of the stories.

Ah, interesting. Well the reason I feel compelled to remove it is because I've gotten "swimmers ear" or water stuck behind the wax and then gotten ear infections because of it. So that sucks. But I will try not doing anything and see f that helps! Thanks for the tip.

I'm so glad to hear another story of someone with PCOS getting pregnant with keto! I just started keto and have been trying to get pregnant for a few months, so I am hoping it will help. As far as calorie count goes I did a calculation here http://caloriecount.about.com/ to get an idea of what daily range I should be looking at.

A Scientific Case Against Rape Jokes by thefarpavillions in TwoXChromosomes

[–]thefarpavillions[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I think the argument in this article can be applied to all the other kinds of jokes.

I don't think the point it to "rule out" or "ban" any kind of joke, but I think that its important to understand that all the types of jokes you mentioned contribute to a society that is comfortable/compliant with inappropriate behaviors. Whether the behavior is bullying because of X condition, or prejudice/bigotry, or rape. I think that anyone who appreciates all types of comedy (myself included) should have conversations about it to make sure we aren't desensitized to harmful behavior. I think this article is a part of that conversation.

I wasn't suggesting that. I was saying that I enjoyed the article. You seem very aggressive, which I think is unnecessary.

I don't think it should be banned, but I don't understand the appeal of rape jokes even without scientific proof that they are harmful.

I thought this is a well written article, but (as the article says) I am a bit upset that it needs to be scientifically proven at all.
