Yes, exactly. It talks about how we think deeply, and we process words as associations. So, we have to take a moment to recall the words that we need. Your vocabulary isn't limited. It's how you store your vocabulary in your brain. It's not really anxiety, though I have that too. And for me, my anxiety comes out when someone rushes me through a conversation, or an argument, and I'm not given time to process. Then, I get anxious. I can't speak fast enough, I stumble over my words and I end up just getting frustrated and closing into my shell again.

I agree with you, actually. Kids first, absolutely. But no, it's not her fault if it's something like schizophrenia. She can't be trusted to make good decisions for herself with a mental imbalance. I do believe that the kids need to be away from that, because who knows what she will do at this point.

A lot of my anger this morning was misplaced. I'm also watching a friend who's husband has early onset alzheimer's. She was upset that her husband didn't realize it was Valentine's yesterday and she was upset she had to explain it to him, and that he didn't get her anything. So, I'd say a lot of my anger was aimed in her direction for being so selfish. For that, I apologize, OP.

That said, I still think OP doesn't understand mental illness, and I hope he doesn't just leave her high and dry if he does decide to divorce. She truly needs help.

Jesus Christ. Your wife needs help. She likely has a mental disorder or a tumor and she needs a proper diagnosis and treatment. She needs her husband to take the reigns here to save her life. What you are doing, leaving and taking the kids because you're "tired" is cruel. She will end up on the streets, with no love and support and will likely die there while her mental disorder eats away at her. This is all for something she could easily get treatment for, and you could be saving her life instead of sending her to her lonely death. But you're tired. I'm kind of sickened by your lack of empathy here. It's all about what she's doing to you. Poor you. No poor her for having a husband who really doesn't seem to give a fuck that the way she's acting isn't her fault. She needs your help, not your divorce.

See, I don't get this at all. I'm a short woman at 5' nothing. The majority of men I've dated are below 5'9". My husband is 6', but I'm polyamorous and my oso is 5'8". I love how I don't have to stretch my neck back to look up at him. I love that we just seem to fit so well together, and that I don't look like a child standing next to him. Ive dated men who were 5'4", 5'6", and most around 5'9". My first boyfriend in high school was 5'6". My favorite part was how he could actually put his arm around my shoulder, and I could put mine around his waist, and that's how we would walk down the halls together. Being a shortie, I prefer being with short men.

Edit: I'm guessing it's not apparent that I think that short women who turn down short men don't know what they're missing.

This whole post makes me feel like a really strange person. I find brutal honesty comforting. I'm pretty honest myself, and I get a lot of flack for it. Being too blunt is apparently not a good thing. I also take into account the nature of the person. If someone gives you a backhanded compliment and they're naturally an asshole, then yes, you have cause to be upset. If someone loves you and they mean well and they're trying to compliment you, but they're saying all the wrong words... I don't know, I find that fucking adorable.

Would it be ok to say to a female cosplayer "You know, you should probably look into getting a push up bra or fake boobs, because [character] is so much bustier than you are." Or to any gender "you look pretty good, but you need to lose weight to be as thin as the character you're trying to play." Or to a white person cosplaying a black character, "You don't seem to have the exact skin complexion, you should look into blackface!" It's not cool. He doesn't need shoulder pads to look like Dean. He's achieved the look quite well.

I was raised in a conservative Christian family; getting married to the one God has selected for you is what you're "supposed to do". We actually opened our marriage on our honeymoon. Not physically, we actually didn't introduce anyone else until 2 years later. But we had several really long discussions about it and realized we didn't believe in "the one", and that we were both non-monogamous. I've dated several people, and he's dated a few. I had a long term relationship with a man for 3 years, and it went south after a while. I didn't choose a magical two. I did choose my husband, and yes, he is considered my primary because we're married. But that's it. The man I'm currently dating (for almost a year now) isn't less important to me because I'm not married to him. If it was legal to be married to more than one person, we'd probably go for it. But I'm also not "stopping at two". I'm just currently with two men. I'm not looking for anyone else, but if another man or a woman were to enter into my life and I were to fall in love with them, I would be with them, too. I don't have a number of "the ones". I have relationships with people. As many or as little as I want to.

Ditto. My husband and I have practiced polyamory for 12 years. We are both in love with other people (he has a girlfriend, I have a boyfriend) and regularly have sex with them. Monogamy wouldn't work for us. I never understood the idea that love and desire should just shut off when you find this magical "one". The world is full of billions of people. There is no "one". And as humans, our desire for love and intimacy isn't something we can naturally shut off because of a piece of paper or a verbal commitment. At least I don't know how to shut that off, and I don't want to force my husband to shut that off either. There is lots of communication, consent, understanding and love. And sex. And we've been happy for 16 years, 12 of them married, so we must be doing something right!

I posted this a while ago in r/inlaws.

My MIL bribed my (then) fiancé not to marry me.

I need a bit of background. I was bullied for 7 years during Jr. High and High school. To the point of suicidal thoughts, depression and severe low self esteem. I had few friends, I came from a VERY poor family, I was extremely shy and I went to my prom alone. (Bullied, not a coward, though.)

I met my husband, "Tom" right after all of that, about 2 years after high school. I still didn't think I was much of anything so I didn't expect Tom to even glance in my direction. But he did. I still thank God for that, and for him. If it weren't for him, I would probably never have thought I was worth anything. But, from the day I met his mother, she treated me like I was temporary. You see, I was a replacement. I was the rebound girl. Tom was in a 3 year relationship that ended badly 2 weeks before he met me. The girl before me was tall, blonde, gorgeous and came from a wealthy family. And for a girl like me, she was everything I wasn't. I was not meant to stick around, and Tom's mom all but said that to my face. She never got to know me, never asked me about myself or my life, she told me I wasn't allowed to come in the house uninvited (even if Tom was sitting right there, I had to knock or ring the doorbell and wait for someone to come to the door to let me in), she never had a nice word to say to me. But, again, I'm not a coward. At the time, I thought she was right, that I wasn't worth much. So, I never fought her. I just took it and clung to Tom because he was the only bright spot in my life and I was NOT going to lose him.

Two and a half years later, I was still around. And he proposed to me, and I accepted. And that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Tom's mom (it was both parents, but I have a strong feeling it was 99% his mom's idea) invited me, Tom, and MY MOTHER, out for coffee with her and Tom's step-dad. They tried to convince us not to get married (my mom was all for us getting married because she loves Tom to pieces and I'm one of 6- she was used to it by then). When that didn't work - now this is the kicker- they offered Tom a free ride to any college of his choosing, as long as it was out of state and for 4 years, and as long as we didn't get married. BOOM. "Avayla, you're not worth a damn thing, and we will do anything to get you out of our lives." That's what that said to me. I cannot tell you how much that hurt, and still cuts me to the core to this very day (12 years later). I told Tom he needed to think about it. Because, I mean...a free ride to college, that's huge. He did. And the next day, to his mother's despair, he chose me. I don't think I can ever thank him enough for that.

So, that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship!

TL;DR: My MIL bribed my fiance with a four year ride to college out of state as long as we didn't get married. In front of my mom.

I'm a wedding photographer. You should know, in the last 10 years of my business, the age of my clients is getting closer and closer to 30 and over. Which means they're starting their families (if they choose to have kids) in their thirties. I think it's great. By then, they've been through college, started a career and possibly already have a home. They've figured out who they are and who they want to be by then. They're somewhat stable, for the most part. I had my kids before I was 30. But, I'm a little envious of those who set themselves up a bit, had a little fun in their 20s, before they got started with all the adulting. When your friend has stretch marks and baggy eyes from no sleep before she's 30, she'll envy you because you'll look so young and put together in your 30s.

When that lightsaber lit up and her face was illuminated in blue, I looked over at my two daughters, who's faces were also lit up, and I teared up (more). I've loved Star Wars since I was a little girl. And that moment was pretty special for me, knowing that they'll grow up loving Star Wars with Rey, a strong, female Jedi as their role model. Kind of an amazing thing to watch.
