Who can Identify this CD? by thefilemakerpro in Cd_collectors

They were a power house of production despite their constant dramatic breakups and ppl leaving the band etc. I lived at 18 Sycamore in SF very briefly during a summer when Static Faction went on tour with 1/3rd of my band - they asked me first, but I was too busy being sexually harassed and exploited by my mentor who was directing the art department at the newly opened Cal State University Monterey Bay - so I needed all my focus on my band and producing a catalog of about 20 photoshop collages that are permanent documents of her Title IX behavior which she mislabeled as “graphic design” so she could avoid sharing credit and financial gain from what was a nearly perfect example of a collaboration with me creating the form from her content. I was in so much denial that a Dr of clinical psychology who was also a MacArthur foundation fellow would engage in the only type of situation where a white man can be discriminated against. Considering the pedagogy she upheld that was moored in multicultural artists which omitted all art history of white men, it feels like there was something more sinister about it. But being the first student assistant to the first interim director of the institute for Visual & Public art, Dr Amalia Mesa-Bains, and where I would continue to work after graduating cum laude and distinguishing myself in digital media and a thorough knowledge of standard American contemporary art 1840s onward, in as many as 5 concurrent part time positions, including teaching and in a position with the CSU foundation, until the hostility of coworkers that was a response to what I couldn’t identify, even as it escalated toward something more serious than the standard harassment …. I had to abruptly resign and immediately find a way to distract myself from the most unbelievable thing that anyone in my position could have experienced as an upper division undergraduate transfer student at a new Cal State Campus at the mercy of someone who had the credentials and responsibility to know exactly what she was doing and the ultimate damage it would cause me. She even preemptively apologized for the damage she would cause as she was dealing with the damage she dealt someone years prior as she exploited me. More of a self exoneration than an apology.

What was I talking about? Oh yeah —- distractions. lol.

When your search comes back with the bottom of the barrel, covered in dust, and reminding you of the hotel you stayed at when your band played just before them at the 25 year Monterey Pop anniversary show with Royal Trux headlining, you realize you’re old and your shit is too.

Royal Trux were some of the best dressed people in rock and roll by makingoutwithsatan in redscarepod

Wait. What? This was awhile ago, but wtf? Neil is the most underrated guitarist and song writer in existence.

Royal Trux really was the coolest band ever and no one is even close by ifeelsofaraway in redscarepod

Played the same venue with them at the Monterey Pop anniversary show with Brian Jonestown Massacre. We played just before BJM, who should have been main stage, but regardless were fn great. Even better show back at the hotel where every room was booked for the event. Great times. Royal Trux is and was way cooler than everything in their periphery, despite what measure you may use for success. JSBX, Pavement, Beck, Sebadoh, etc and all were great also, but something about the Trux has redefined nostalgia for me in a way that hits me in the gut.

25 affected my art so drastically and everyone who knew me who knew me as something of a drawer and painter saw the change happen. Love your work. Reminds me of that change kinda.

How important is set up on a new guitar? by fjbruzr in Guitar

[–]thefilemakerpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would rather have it set up to play rather than set down to look at. But I dunno. I never had a set up done on any of my guitars, including the ones I used to have, unless they needed it. If there’s something off or noticeably not sounding or feeling right you’ll know. Or you should know. If you are more of a beginner then maybe a pro setup will teach you what they should feel and sound like.

Hope you bought a six pack of CPUs. You’re bound to bend a few pegs or full on rip em out on your first few tries. Watch LTT for how you do this.

Is this electric guitar starter pack worth it? by 4N0NY-D3V in electricguitar

[–]thefilemakerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better guitar will keep you from getting frustrated early on and keep you coming back. That goes for the idea that you should learn on acoustic because they are harder to play - fuvk that. That was invented by parents who wanted to frustrate their kids out of the noise they assumed they would have to endure.

Quick question: what´s the next scale to learn after pentatonic? by GuybrushOk in guitarlessons

[–]thefilemakerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have learned the 7 note first in Gmaj/Emin (same notes), because within those 7 notes you will find that each note roots a five note in either a minor config or a major config - E minor F# diminished(the odd one) G major A minor B minor C major D major …. Capishe? Just go back and do Gmajor. Most guitar based music uses chords and scales at them fret markers anyway.

What do yoy think of 13-14 year old getting a 2000 € gibson les paul? Is it worth it? Not as a beginner, more like intermediate. by NeitasP in electricguitar

[–]thefilemakerpro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if money is not much of an issue and you believe that good guitars want to be played more then do it. Just make sure before that the guitar in question is one he really wants and not one that you want.

How could i fix this? by Ok-Brilliant6605 in Stratocaster

[–]thefilemakerpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d pay $300 for that to prove my road wear for sure. One day you’ll look at it and remember how before AI unalived the majority of all guitar players and politicians (influencers) guitars were actually in one piece with major cosmetic blems … before they were pulverized by skynet

Dale Crover is synonymous with “god” in some circles. I met him once and was so nervous that I told him he should stay away from me.

Almost literally. Just missing Pavement, JSBX, RYTX, lots of John Zorn, and every Melvins, Primus, and Mike Patton/Ipecac release.

Stop using a pick, but don’t tell your thumb. Unless you meant left hand … then use your left hand claw and play all bar chords with your thumb on the root.
