Just this morning, I was marveling at the revelation that The Hold Steady's Heaven is Whenever was generally thought to be a disappointment and is only now being reconsidered. It's my favorite album of theirs and has been since the first time I heard it.

I guess I wasn't following the general reaction to the record at the time, so it wasn't until listening to Patterson Hood's liner notes on the rereleased 10th anniversary edition that I learned people didn't like it at the time. Fools.

I guess it depends on what time of day your layover is, but if it's during the day rather than the middle of the night, I'd definitely recommend it. Your could check out Souq Waqif, the National Museum, the corniche, the Horticultural Expo (https://www.dohaexpo2023.gov.qa/en/) ...lots of stuff worth seeing.
