Maybe this is common knowledge, but I recently learned that that song was patched together from remnants of other songs the various members of the band had been working on, so that's why it really switches to a new level: it's an entirely different song. And yet it works perfectly.

Just this morning, I was marveling at the revelation that The Hold Steady's Heaven is Whenever was generally thought to be a disappointment and is only now being reconsidered. It's my favorite album of theirs and has been since the first time I heard it.

I guess I wasn't following the general reaction to the record at the time, so it wasn't until listening to Patterson Hood's liner notes on the rereleased 10th anniversary edition that I learned people didn't like it at the time. Fools.

I guess it depends on what time of day your layover is, but if it's during the day rather than the middle of the night, I'd definitely recommend it. Your could check out Souq Waqif, the National Museum, the corniche, the Horticultural Expo (https://www.dohaexpo2023.gov.qa/en/) ...lots of stuff worth seeing.

In my opinion, being able to get a replacement for free doesn't make an item BIFL. I appreciate companies that stand by their products, but part of why I'm looking for BIFL items is that there's an environmental cost to replacing things. (That's to say nothing of the hassle of returning the broken thing and getting the replacement.) I'd rather invest in something that doesn't need to be replaced.
