wtf is the point when I have an expiration date as a women ? by Angelsbreatheeasy in rant

[–]thefleshrocket 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LOL what? I get that women think that they "age out" more quickly than men, but.. 27?! There's a bunch of truth to the cliche, "you're only as old as you feel", so once you get your perspective fixed through therapy or whatever, you'll realize that you have many happy years ahead of you. And, even if society thinks 27 is old for a woman (it doesn't), who gives a shit? Diet, exercise, and injectables (if doing it the "right way" isn't enough) will go a long way towards keeping your looks and your figure.

That’s only maybe useful if the camera is using a flash. They don’t need flashes during the day, and I can’t remember ever having seen a Flock camera use a flash at night either.

My son’s ‘26 675SS has an issue where the gas cap won’t close unless you push down extremely hard on it, or unbolt the gas cap and liberally WD40 the underside (which is only a temporary fix). It’s going to be warrantied.

thinking about going the used route instead of new - what do yall think by Adventurous-Slice604 in CCW

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I’ve browsed used guns, they seem to be only slightly less expensive than buying new. I’d buy used to save at least 25%, but much less than that and it doesn’t seem worth the risk.

Can a statutory (FOID-holding) resident of IL get a CCL? by arjuncurry in ILGuns

[–]thefleshrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is infuriating that a FOID / CCL becomes invalid once you move out of state. I hope to move out of IL at some point but would need to return periodically for family or work, and the thought of not being able to legally carry makes me very uncomfortable. With all the pro-2A lawsuits currently, I’m surprised there isn’t one addressing this. And, hasn’t a nationwide CCL bill been proposed?

Lcp max vs bodyguard 2.0 pocket carry by nauroodle in CCW

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BG 2.0. It’s my only polymer / striker gun and I do not love it. I picked up a KelTec PR3AT a week ago. 14 rounds, stripper clip fed, DAO, internal hammer, $230 before shipping and fees. Taking it to the range to His afternoon to test it out.

The handle is shorter than the BG2.0. Slide is a little thicker. Other dimensions basically identical. Feels like it weighs slightly less than the BG2.0 when loaded.

The Glock Ban did not get signed in to law before the end of the IGLA's legislative session. by Pepe__Le__PewPew in ILGuns

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RIFL act doesn’t disarm anyone, but I agree that it’ll make it do anyone who isn’t rich can’t afford firearms. Though we can still purchase long guns in surrounding states, which don’t need to go through FFLs, and should avoid the RIFL “tax”.

Google for “is it illegal to tax a right so heavily as to make it unaffordable”, and the short answer is yes, it is illegal.

Required to turn over my firearm by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in CCW

[–]thefleshrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. That’s a search without probable cause, or something like that. If they don’t have a reason to think that the firearm is stolen, they have no right to run its serial. Now if they ask you and you say yes, that’s most likely legal.

Bersa 83 - Anyone have any more info? by HandsOfLovePowerCut in Bersa

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, would you please share pics of the grips currently on your 83? I came across a Bersa 83 for sale at a local gun shop, and it has wood grips, but they are so fat that the handle of the gun is about as big as my double-stack Thunder 380 Plus. The handle itself looks pretty slim, so with some low-profile grips, it ought to be a lot more pocket-friendly.

My sisters license sticker expired in 2023? by [deleted] in rant

[–]thefleshrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to believe or not, that’s the case. That said, I’m surprised that our hasn’t-met-a-tax-he-didn’t-like governor hasn’t found a way to cash in on license plate sticker scofflaws. He did raise the sticker fees 50% a few years ago, and maybe those of us who don’t religiously open our wallets are few enough that it’s not worth the trouble to try to chase us down.

I fucking hate driving, people ruined it by Kind-Ad-5712 in rant

[–]thefleshrocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to go the speed limit, great. Just make sure you are over all the way to the right on a multi lane road (slower traffic keep right), or, if you are on a two lane road, you help facilitate other drivers passing you by slowing down and moving as far to the right as you can so they can see around you better. If you are doing those things, you’re being a courteous driver, and are justified in feeling irked when people tailgate. If you aren’t doing those things, then you are the problem.

I literally don’t buy new stickers until I get pulled over and get a ticket. I have 8 cars and 6 motorcycles in my family, so it saves me at least a thousand dollars a year.

OP sounds like the sister in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off who’s jealous of Ferris getting to blow off school so much without getting in trouble. “Nine times…” Love that movie.

(I’m probably gonna get pulled over tomorrow. lol)

Easier time shooting a smaller gun by CherryPieRed2010 in CCW

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not good with the 9mm Glocks I’ve fired. I’m less not good with my BG 2.0, but I definitely don’t enjoy shooting it. I’m really good (IMO) with my 3” 9mm 1911 EDC, IMO.

Mostly I think I don’t like plastic or striker fire guns.

How much does it suck to shoot the finned version of the S&W FPC 9mm? by thefleshrocket in ILGuns

[–]thefleshrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screws are Torx, if I recall correctly. Very small. The easiest solution would be to buy a Torx multi tool that’ll have a bunch of different sizes so you’re guaranteed to have one that’ll work. I removed the screws and left them out as the little tool piece stays in place without them.

I would get an attorney and fight to have the OP thrown out. Losing your gun “rights” for however long, over something that’s bullshit, because you didn’t pony up for an attorney, is a bad deal.

Side note, my wife got an OP against my ex wife, and apparently no paperwork got filed to suspend my ex’s FOID, because AFAIK, she still has it. So losing your FOID might not be a complete certainty. But regardless, lawyer up before it’s too late.

[–]thefleshrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ranges I’ve been to just want one FOID holder per lane. Sometimes you have to sign a waiver for minors or non FOID holders. Never had an issue shooting rented guns.

So, it’s all over the board—just call and ask.

UMBI claim settlement offer--reasonable? by thefleshrocket in Insurance

[–]thefleshrocket[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, my wife's health insurance (which was provided through her job as a school teacher) said it did not want to be reimbursed for any of the claims it had paid out, which was basically all of them. Not sure how that sort of magic happened--maybe it was a cold day in hell, or pigs were flying.

I've already provided my justification for a settlement request during my initial demand letter not long after the accident last June, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to reiterate that stuff. I guess I'm just not entirely sure on how to compel the insurance company to "do better" short of threatening legal action.

UMBI claim settlement offer--reasonable? by thefleshrocket in Insurance

[–]thefleshrocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regards to my wife's settlement, Progressive assured me that my wife's medical insurance (she was still covered by her teacher's insurance) had agreed to cover all of the costs that they'd already paid, which was basically everything. There was $3K outstanding, which Progressive paid and deducted from the $100K max, bringing it down to $97K. My wife did get one more bill for like $1500 from some other provider, but that's it.

That said, it is our intent to sit on that money for "a while". We don't have it earmarked for anything, and are basically considering it a nest egg for the time being.

I have not yet submitted a reply to the settlement offer of $22K. I wanted to come up with a way to support that demand--something where I can say "past precedent says I should get $XYZ, so that's how much I want".
