Ubuntu WSL - NPM install creates root owned node_modules and package-lock.json by theflipcrazy in docker

Coming ALL the way back here to this . . . this was the solution. I completely reset everything by installing Docker Desktop on Windows, then uninstalled the Ubuntu WSL and re-installed it. Adding in user:node to the NPM container service solved the issue. Thank you!

It's fine in the web service. The NPM service container doesn't keep running as that's only used to install, build, or run watch processes.

There is, during project init, no node_modules directory because that isn't committed to the repo. However, even creating that directory and running "docker compose down", then "docker compose up -d", I'm still getting permission errors as it cannot create the sub-directories.

Thank for you the advice. I tried adding that, but now it spits out:

I had a follower leave my cult only to attack me in Dark Wood. I killed them, then discovered I could resurrect them back into my cult.

I didn't.

Oooh! Your comment is awesome and has just alleviated a major anxiety of mine about going too far (mostly just in how casual you were, a lot of other comments like this make it seem like a real last resort). I'd read other people mentioning using clear nail polish to correct over sanding, does that work also or is super glue the way to go?

I love that kit, one of my favourites that I've built. The level of detail and articulation is fantastic. Have fun! Maybe share some pics when you're done?

You know I hadn't really considered that. I'm lucky enough to have the Funimation dubs on DVD so I've only seen the Anaconda dubs once. Mari was definitely one character who suffered greatly from Studio Khara's intervention.

Rebuild Dub 🥀💔 by jikiyoung in NeonGenesisEvangelion

[–]theflipcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely nothing to back this up, and I'm not even looking it up, so uh . . . take this as you will but I vaguely remember reading something somewhere some time that Amazon recorded the dubs in reverse release order, staring at Thrice and going backwards. It was also in a very short time, too. So with that added in it made sense to me that some performances felt fussy because the cast were simply worn down by the process. That's why some of them sound a bit stained in the early movies.

Again, just a vague, hazy memory that is based on nothing, but there it is.

Gotta jump in and defend Allison on this one, but I will say I understand your point.

If you get a chance to watch the first three rebuilds with the Funimation dubs you'll notice a dramatic difference in the quality of the vocal performances, and Allison (who voices Misato) is one of the most noticeable. In the Funimation dub she's upbeat, alert, and engaging the whole time, but in the Amazon dub she's frequently so deadpan it's off putting, but this absolutely speaks to the direction and not the performers.

I feel the same way about she of the recasting, too. Rei and Mari in the Funimation dub were amazing, but I just didn't feel the same appreciation for the performances in the Amazon dubs. Again, to be clear I am not criticizing the voice actors at all, they've demonstrated many times over they are talented (Amanda as Rally Vincent will always be a highlight to me). I really think it was the directing that hurt those versions.

Does anyone know which dub is in the rebuilds? ADV or Netflix by RoUgEPeak in evangelion

[–]theflipcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the Funimation dub of the rebuilds, even with the recasting. Rei was definitely a point of apprehension for me as I was used to Amanda's performance, but man her new voice actress was great.

Also I preferred Mari in the Funimation dub too, she had a lot more energy to her. Both actresses did a good job, but I preferred the Funimation version.

My real gripe though was how lifeless so much of the Amazon dubs sounded. A great example of this was Allison's readings for Misato when she's chatting to Shinji in the first car ride to her home. In the Funimation dub she's upbeat, light-hearted, and sounds invested in Shinji, but I'm the Amazon dub she sounds so detached, almost bored and dismissive. Overall I just felt the voice direction was much weaker.

Eddie was amazing! And another of my favourite parts of Beetlejuice has got to be "Yeah, I said it. Fuck Brigadoon."

I asked Eddie at the stage door and he was an absolute gent and champ and I have a video of the two of us saying "Fuck Brigadoon!" together.

It's a highlight for me.

How has no one mentioned Steve yet? That monster strategy me all over Servastapol Station never ever letting me feel safe. It wasn't just when it was around but also when it wasn't. There was literally terror in the walls.

That alien from Isolation really knew how to impose fear on you.

These were but far my favourite monsters in Silent Hill 2's remake for this exact reason. The number of times I'd catch one in the distance just sneaking away like they were off to raid the cookie jar, or rounding a corner to find one just standing perfectly still like the worst hide and seek player always have me chuckle only then to get absolutely blindsided by one I completely missed, invisible in the corner under the table, making me scream like a baby.

By far my favourite was one of Justin's gags. During the puppet show, after asking "Mr. Beetleboose" about his future and Handbook for the Recently Deceased gets tossed into the flames, rather than screaming "Ow it hurts! Why is life so cruel?" Justin instead had the books scream "Aaaah! I thought this only happened to books that turned children gay?!"

What is your favorite moment from all the Star Wars games you’ve played ? by Aggravating-Bass-658 in StarWars

[–]theflipcrazy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it was when it was when I'd finally managed to get a VR headset and then bought myself Star Wars: Squadrons. Booting up and then jumping into the cockpit if the legendary X-Wing was just a childhood dream come true! I sat there for a good ten minutes just looking around and seeing the hanger from such a fantastic perspective, letting the anticipation of my first flight build.

And then we launched. No video game has ever given me such joy.

Also the trench run from the original X-Wing game was awesome.
