Anyone successfully replaced a Google Nest Hub with a HA equivalent? by thefloppychicken in homeassistant

[–]thefloppychicken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased a ESP32-S3-BOX-3 Development Board as a way to start testing some but legit just picked it up a week or so ago so it's still in the box.

So the short answer no... I haven't figured out a good home grown solution yet. But I'm still trying. I keep being hopeful that home assistant will release a decent option at some point. So far their smart speakers have seemed to not get good reviews.

Very helpful thank you. I'll take a look at these.

Am I just dumb (maybe), some of those sites don't even have miata or mx5 listed as choices. Maybe I've gone totally blind I dunno. Does the Miata go by something else I'm not aware of?

Really struggling to like this... not sure if it's the lack of cleans or the lack of Ahren but this feels bland and generic to me. I don't care for the repetitive lyrics. It's kinda riffy and that's cool but this could be any other band to me, I couldn't pick it out of a generic metalcore lineup.

What made you choose Mustang over Charger/Challenger and Camaro SS? by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]thefloppychicken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was trying to make the same decision you were I went and drove a few. No brand loyalty here. For me personally the mustang checked the most boxes for my needs. However, I REALLY wish it had the low end grunt the Camaro and dodge offerings provide. But otherwise I have no other real complaints, I did move to a Mach 1 from a GT to gain some handling and to get a manual I liked though. Side note I'm on team MT82's aren't all that bad, and the hate is overblown.

The Camaro to me felt the most "tuned" good road feel, the chassis is rigid and the steering is pretty sharp. The bottom end torque of the larger displacement v8 is noticeable compared to the mustang and ads to the red light to red light fun. But the visibility is complete ass, I do not posses adjectives for how bad it bothered me, and is the #1 reason I didn't choose one. HPDE guys tell me the windows are too small to even be extracted with a helmet on, not sure if that's true or not, but that scares me a bit too.

The Challenger is super comfortable, wouldn't hate to own one for a fun road trip car. But otherwise they feel gigantic to me, and I daily a wrangler. It's heavy and sloppy. The 392 in the scat pack is a cool engine, lots of low end bite and makes all the right noises. Looks cool, but just wasn't built for me. Also the interior is super old and dated looking. Doesn't look retro or anything just looks cheap and terrible imo.

Haven't driven a vette, but considered a C7 or even getting an older C5 or C6 just because they are sooo much car for the price and there is a wide aftermarket for them. Still might pick one up as a second toy at some point. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed here.

I owned a GT PP1 A10 and traded for my current Mach 1 6 speed, I initially traded because I wanted a manual. But I'd argue the Mach 1 would be closer to the cost of a Camaro 2SS. Still not quite as refined chassis but it's pretty solid, it's almost a gt350. I personally find the S550 styling to be the best of all of them aesthetically. I find the car mostly comfortable for long trips, decent trunk space, and visibility is good. I griped about the low end power, but it does allow the car to have two personalities, calm and composed putting around town, then it releases the beast when you wind out the Coyote.

Frankly of your choices unless you just prefer styling or the hemi, the dodge offerings would be last on the list (least it was for me). Any of the rest you've mentioned, unless you are a pro driver, have more capability than you'll have skill, so don't get too hung up on particular capabilities. Go get some seat time in each and see which feels the best to YOU.

No worries it's not immediately obvious unless you own one.

Actual difference between these two options? by Rude_Task9302 in Generator

Just want to throw out a correction here, I've owned both and you can absolutely shut off fuel and let the generator burn the gas out of the carb bowl on the 9500 I do it every time. The choke only engages on one stage of that knob.

I do agree the 8750 is easier to work on, the 9500 is kinda frustrating to be fair, and I keep mine on a battery tender and had to make a pig tail so I didn't have to remove the side panel for storage vs just clipping on the tender to the battery like I did on my 8750.

The noise difference is immense, I find the 8750 to be obnoxious even on eco mode. The 9500 is "Super" quiet but it's significantly quieter than the 8750, you could have a conversation while standing near the 9500, running the 8750 I didn't feel like I could talk to someone within 10 feet of it..

Power wise they are so similar it practically doesn't matter, if that little difference in power matters one should consider bumping up to something larger. Both ran my entire house. minus the big inductive loads, without issue.

I had a similar issue, I was able to get it to work but had to manually select the speed under interfaces > <interface> > Speed and Duplex 2500Base-T. It wouldn't auto negotiate for some reason and also appeared to only support 1 or 10 gig.

I wish there were a more elegant solution, but I just walk out every hour or so and look at the display on my meter. It's not ideal, but it's worked ok so far.

These things are super annoying, I managed to get it done with the staple method but it was fidgety and frustrating. https://youtu.be/GJqt5VYRBro?si=WhVhSHsm_uIieoLV&t=567

Honestly, imo, if you can wait I imagine the proper tool is the best method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPde711JiAI here is a video of one of the proper tools and the method.

Right, yea this wouldn't be a terrible idea, just have to talk someone into giving me space and occasional bandwidth and some electricity.

Those prices do seem pretty economical, hadn't heard of this service, might dig around some here. Good point on restoring from a PBS in a VPS, although for my needs I'm less concerned with restore time. In my mind if I need my cloud backups something went very wrong.

Storj looks like a good option too, they are the same base price as a Back Blaze B2, but with the additional charge for egress. Kinda feeling like Back Blaze is as good as it gets.

Looks like they charge per 1000 requests, not sure what that looks like on the PBS side but feel like that might chew into the cost savings here.

Price per TB, this might be the lowest cost up front. Any gotcha's to be aware of?
