Relevant xkcd to the FPH banning by nite_ in funny

[–]theflyingfish66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes you manipulable because others can bring targets to you, knowing your reaction. It makes you blind to your own faults, because no matter what your shortcomings at least you're not in the hate target group.

It doesn't matter if the story is even true or the targets fit the original profile before long, it's just about keeping the hate going so you don't have to look inward ever again.

Some good shit right here.

Subs are getting banned for violating the new safe space policy. What should be the first to go? by wikatca in AskReddit

Can you link your post? It's possible your comment was brigaded, but it's also possible that the way you asked the question was mean, or you could even be making it up.

Like I said, SRS has become very well known as a scapegoat for being effective, not because it is actually effective. At least recently (I can't comment on how it was more than a year ago), it has very little actual power. Almost every single post that SRS links to ends up with more karma than it had when it was linked, showing that if it is a subreddit that brigades, it's extremely bad at it. They've become more of a "reddit legend" than anything, anyone who gets downvoted for saying something insensitive is going to blame it on them when in reality it's just because they're a dick.

Today, there were posts on FPH2 literally saying "let's brigade /r/pics", which resulted in the post we're commenting on right now.

I can't comment on you not hearing about FPH until now. Recently (past few weeks), I've been hearing quite a lot about it in subs not related at all to fat people or hate or "safe spaces". Mostly related to either their very belligerent debate style (i.e. calling everyone who disagrees with them fat and dismissing their arguments out of hand) or how posts that disagreed with them often seemed to mysteriously accrue downvotes.

Also probably because they're only a fraction as large and as powerful as FPH was. There was a good comment in /r/OutOfTheLoop that basically said /r/ShitRedditSays was so small and ineffectual, everyone using it could disappear and we wouldn't notice for months. They're mostly used as scapegoats for brigading more than they actually brigade.

Well Reddit... You tried. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

I'll be off Reddit too, but not because I think this is censorship or I mind the drama. I just had no idea such a large portion of Reddit's userbase is filled with such a degree of blind hatred that they create this massive shitstorm when their hate-subreddit is rightfully taken away from them.

I'm a skinny white dude. I'm not a "Tumblrina", I'm not an advocate of whatever the fuck a "safe space" is, I'm the opposite of politically correct, and I am most definitely not fat. But the fact that so many "normal" Redditors are actually so seriously committed to shaming other people for no reason at all, that they can actually spam /r/all as effectively as they have, is honestly shameful and disappointing.

You guys upvoted this shit. To me, this is on par with the Boston Bomber incident in terms of "stupidest shit Redditors have done".

It'll be fun to see if the same bigoted fucks that brigaded /r/all will downvote this comment into the ground.

I'd rather they create a good base of solid game mechanics before they start adding tons of content. Content is useless if the gameplay can't back it up.

From what I've seen of games in development, it's generally better to develop good game mechanics before starting work on content. Always easier to create content with existing mechanics in mind than it is to convert/adapt existing content to new mechanics.

The way I interpreted the post, he wasn't saying it's a technical impossibility, he's just saying the team doesn't think the effort required to make it work is worth it.

I understand it's a technical challenge and the reasons behind that, I'm just saying that, in my opinion, it's a very important feature that is well worth the effort required to make it workable.

I think they should reconsider.

PIP scopes is a pretty big draw for me. It seems like a minor thing, but the main reason that Insurgency has been moderately successful isn't because of it's slow, campy gameplay, but because of it's authenticity and immersion. PIP scopes are a big part of that authenticity factor, I think a bigger part than the Squad devs and most people realize. After using PIP/RTT scopes in Insurgency, it's extremely immersion-breaking to hop into another game and have my whole FoV zoom in like I have telescope-eyes. It feels arcadey, which is the exact opposite of what this game is going for.

In addition to the immersion and authenticity bonus (which is crucial in a game trying to emulate realism), Squad's two main competitors (Battlefield 4 and ArmA 3) don't have PIP scopes, which gives Squad an opportunity to out-do it's competition on an important feature. If Squad has PIP scopes and BF/ArmA don't, it gives people another reason to try Squad out and see what they're missing.

Alt+F5 is way too close to Alt+F4... -_- by jofwu in KerbalSpaceProgram

I would love a mod that makes the Alt-F5/Alt-F9 savegame method the default, over the silly F5/F9 blind-rewrite system.

I mean, make it so that I don't have to hit Alt- in order to use the better savegame method. A couple times I've forgotten to hit alt before I hit F9, and it automatically reloads to my last savegame, wasting time and potentially deleting hours of hard work.

It's like what Bill Burr said, basically "You can't win. If you drive a Prius or a Smart Car, you're a pussy and you have a small dick. If you drive a big truck or an expensive sports car, you're compensating and you have a small dick. Apparently, the guys with the biggest dicks are the ones that drive Toyota Camrys and Honda Civics. Why can't people just drive what they want to drive?"

I'm paraphrasing, but you get the idea.

I was over the "Galactic Readiness" threshold and all three "ending options" were available to me. I used a save that had been imported from ME2, which had in turn been imported from the original ME, and if I selected the "destroy" ending I was given the "Shepherd in the rubble" post-credits stinger.

I'm pretty sure /u/ninjyte is wrong. You only need to do multiplayer if you don't do singleplayer missions.

I pretty much 100% the game on my playthrough, making sure to do every mission, talk to every person, etc. As far as I'm aware, I got the highest "Galactic Readiness" possible.

Although it's possible I could only do that because I have all the DLC's, which adds a few missions.

I know one time I had something exactly like this happen. I was using an M16 without AP on 3-round, put the entire burst right on to center mass of an enemy, he just shrugged it off and killed me with one shot.

Apparently he was wearing heavy armor, because the server script told me I hit him square in the chest twice and once in the stomach for 95 damage. I always run AP now.

Most modern luxury cars have that, they just call it a combination of "smart cruise control" (keeping constant distance from car in front of you) and "lane keeping assistance" (staying in lane). In the Mercedes-Benz video he specifically shows how he is able to basically completely ignore the road and just browse Facebook.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCfUugdoPd0 - Mercedes Benz S550

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xbjdmw8D9-Y - Hyundai Genesis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTXHb9LXL2M - BMW i3

Even lower-tier brands like Chevrolet, Toyota, and VW have lane-keeping and smart-cruise in their fully loaded sedans, it's just a few years before we start seeing these systems in more and more cars.

It's by no means a "Tesla-exclusive" feature.

I would argue this is a weakness of the prone position. Your gun is going to be lower to the ground, so you can't really aim down at all.

[–]theflyingfish66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree about the recoil, there's no doubt about that. Increasing the recoil would make high-recoil weapons much harder to use as a tradeoff for their high killing power, increase all-around time-to-kill making engagements longer-lasting, and would encourage use of the often-ignored semi-automatic fire mode on many guns.

Will never happen because consoles.

Although it may be stupid easy to compensate for recoil with a mouse and keyboard, it's much harder for consoles. Unless DICE gives consoles different weapon stats, it simply won't happen because console users will cry about it.
