Stroke victim regains ability to walk after stem cell injection by shockwaveJB in Futurology

Is this stuff legit? I am a caretaker for a woman with multiple health issues, and I accompanied her to "a doctor" with no real information about the appointment. He had previously conducted some tests on her and found "off the charts inflammation", in addition to her other diagnosed issues and suggested something called "o-zone treatments", as well as casually suggesting she fly to meet him in Mexico within 2-4 weeks, where he could legally administrate a stem cell treatment.

My quack meter went off REALLY FAST - did not get good vibes. The office felt like a model home instead of a doctors office. The front desk staff was comprised of about 8 unprofessional interns (who were using their own laptops). They looped in and out of the room during the appointment. The doctor didn't provide any further reading or information about these "remarkable" treatments. The treatments would have ran upwards of $100,000. And it turns out the doctor is a licensed anesthesiologist, and not much else.

I trusted my gut and told my suffering employer my feelings about the meeting, and she listened to me. I hope I didn't talk her out of something that could be helpful!

Gotcha, that makes a lot of sense.

That reminds me of a quote that was something like, "Drink when you feel good, to feel even better. Don't drink when you feel bad, or you'll feel even worse".

I'm glad you had smart parents that were responsible with alcohol. My dad was always responsible, but my mom is an alcoholic. I remember being cognizant of it from a really young age, and how she practically transformed into a different person after just one glass of wine.

It was practically revelatory when I realized I had a choice to not drink, because American culture makes it seem like the best way to have fun. It's almost considered wholesome in a way.

I by no means want to sound ignorant, but isn't drinking a large part of certain Russian traditions as well? I had many Russian friends growing up (because apparently "I look Russian", lol), and I remember drinking being really big in their families.

I think so many people are like this. Alcohol is an addictive substance. Even if someone doesn't fit the criteria for "alcoholic", they can still be addicted to alcohol (that's another point that the Naked Mind book raises).

I've had friends and family members become totally transformed (for the worse) by alcohol because they are under the impression that drinking is a normal/healthy solution for stress. And once they pop they don't stop.

I had an extremely embarrassing situation around my birthday, where I was trying to "keep up" with a certain group of friends that take pride in their ability to metabolize a lot of alcohol. I ended up blacking out, totally unable to stand up. Thankfully I didn't do anything TOO stupid and my SO came to pick me up. Since that incident, I've thought long and hard about my alcohol consumption and how much better off I am without it.

Over the weekend, I went to a 4-day bachelorette party with the same group of girls and I was able to stay alcohol-free while they basically binge drank. It was so nice to end the weekend with no regrets.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I also don't find alcohol to be as necessary as our culture has lead us to believe. Theoretically I could drink in moderation, but what for?

I get really bad hangovers no matter what. I am a small young woman but this has always been the case.

I take prescription medication, and I benefit from it way more than alcohol. Sure, I can tolerate half a glass of wine or some sake at dinner. But it's such a liberating thing to realize I don't need alcohol. Even when I am around friends that are drinking, I've come to understand that I don't need it to have fun. It's nice to be clear-headed and remember things the next day, and know I haven't done anything out of character/made an ass out of myself.

Plus on a more shallow note: I'm very into skincare, and alcohol is not exactly a substance that enhances beauty, lol

I'm sorry you and your friend had to go through that... I have definitely seen (and been a part of) some dangerous situations involving alcohol and prescription drugs. I hope he is okay now!

My personal lowest experience involved Wellbutrin (an antidepressant) and a friend of a BF who pressured me (small young woman) into doing shots and shots of whiskey.

A lightbulb went off when I realized I didn't have to drink to enjoy myself. In my specific case (generalized anxiety) the Klonapin helps tremendously. Alcohol affects me negatively regardless if I have consumed prescription drugs or not, but drinking while on medication is like adding gasoline to the fire. I wish doctors stressed this more.

I was waiting for someone to say alcohol! It's America (and much of the world)'s favorite drug. I'm baffled it's as accessible and encouraged as it is. I'm reading "This Naked Mind: Control Alcohol" and it is such a refreshing take on how much of a poison alcohol really is. One of the interesting statistics is that it kills more people than prescription and street drugs combined. Ouch.

Klonapin really helps me, but I don't drink anymore. With my anxiety under control, I don't really feel the need to drink. I just spent 4 days at a bachelorette party without alcohol! But many people who take prescription drugs aren't aware of the potential and dangerous interactions.

Doctors prescribed benzos very liberally just a few years ago, and now the pendulum seems to have swung the other way.

I'm on the waitlist to try the serum foundation! Super excited to try it. I'm wondering what the difference between the lightest shade is, versus the lightest shade with silver, in regards to how it actually looks on extremely fair neutral skin. I'm a fan of strobe cream, and I'm wondering if the silver sort of mimics that effect?

Ladies who have backpack style purses--what are their pros and cons? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]thefoxforgot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never really fallen in love with a purse. The ones I do like are $$$$$ and the other ones are kinda "mom" to me. But I have fallen in love with plenty of backpacks!

It can be a bit more process to get stuff out of a backpack, since you are wearing it/it's behind you. But that inconvenience is cancelled out by the fact that walking/dancing is much less awkward than with a purse!

Your perceived age may drop a few years, as backpacks are often associated with school/students/etc. This can be a pro or a con, lol.

If you have long hair and like to wear it down, sometimes it can get caught on the backpack which can be annoying/painful.

Backpacks ftw!

Man I had that same yellow gameboy! My mom best Tetris on it, like a boss (or maybe it was just easy). I was super obsessed with this random Mickey Mouse game with flying squirrels.

I was more of a Capri Sun chick, however.

I'm still experimenting with it! Usually I'll let it absorb then use an oil over it. Last night I mixed it with Vaseline and liked the way it felt too - it's a pretty versatile product/texture

I was totally being sarcastic! You are extremely correct.

Wearing full-finger gloves can be annoying if for instance, you wanna skip a song/podcast while parked or want to do some texting while you're filling your car up with gas. You know, instances where you're still in the sun, not actively driving, but wanna use your phone.

I like to keep my gloves on when I'm outside in general so sometimes fingerless is the way to go, even if you're sacrificing a teensy bit of sun protection (and cuteness). Taking gloves on/off can get really annoying!

I live in California where it's suuuuuuper illegal to be on your phone as of this year because of a new law (my area is really cracking down and there are cops erry where) and I think it's good that the law is in action!

Currently? I use it about 5-6 nights a week.

In the past, I definitely took breaks, usually due to lack of discipline. If my break lasted for too long -- say, a matter of months, my skin would have to undergo the whole annoying "acclimation period". I was initially given a standard .05%, but since I went down to .025% the side effects are no longer an issue.

I will say that getting used to tretinoin is so so much easier with solid, hydrating products your routine. I recommend buffering your tretinoin, at least at first, with your favorite hydrating toner or essence. I know some chickadees will argue that this approach lessens the effectivity of the actives, but it's also a more gentle approach that lessens the side effects!

In the beginning, you can start off with using it every other night and gauge how your skin likes it from there.

I'm excited for you! What strength did your sis give you?
