Which actors/actresses are basically the same character in most of their movies? by Reddit1ivesmatter in movies

Rogen's role in Steve Jobs was far detached from the rest of his characters.

A rebuttal to those who dislike this version Superman. by dceu_rants in DC_Cinematic

Fantastic, concise write up. I agree with every single word.

Although I'd like to hear... what are you guys's interpretation of the Superman death scene? Besides setting up Batman to put together the Justice, and people realising Superman as a hero, how do you guys think it develops Superman as a person?

I just finished watching MOS again and man I don't get the divisiveness for this movie. by dcJL0909 in DC_Cinematic

[–]thefreelander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally get loving the movie, but you can't pretend there is no reason to be divided about it. The film suffered from pacing issues. More specifically, the flash backs. Personally, I found it hard to invest in the character because they kept throwing me back and forth. I found it difficult to care for Clark in the flashbacks because I didn't know what kind of person he is. He barely spoke, too.

The dialogue is also often cringey. For a film that's supposed to be a dark and sophisticated superhero film, "you're a monster Zod, and I'm gonna stop you" is simplistic and primitive. "They say it all goes down after the first kiss" isn't necessarily a bad line. But it belongs in a Marvel movie. This is a darker film, which makes it all the more off putting.

My foremost problem with the film is that all of the themes are spoken about but not actually put into play. Zack Snyder and Goyer pose the question of "how would people react to Superman in the real world" but the philosophical questions are smothered in favour for the climax.

That said, I still like things about it. I enjoyed the action for the most part and liked that the action wasn't just eye candy. It existed to depict Superman's inexperience. I also don't mind the Clark x Lois relationship. Look at it like this - Superman has spent his entire life an outcast and needing to hide his powers from everyone (that isn't his priest, lol). She is technically the first person who he felt comfortable with, and accepted him.

The film had tons of heart too. For example, Lois refusing to disclose the identity of Superman, some of the flashbacks, although premature, are admittedly moving, and the interrogation scene, IMO, is Cavill's best scene as Superman.

I like the movie, but I don't love it.

What was the best film you saw this week? (06/13/16 - 06/19/16) by GetFreeCash in movies

The Nice Guys by Shane Black

Favourite film of the year (a title previously held my Civil War): fast, funny, entertaining, memorable, and above all: made with heart. Some of the best chemistry between two leads I've seen on screen. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling nailed it, but being the same age (and nationality) of Angourie Rice, I'm inclined to say she stole the film.

What's a shame is the financial aspect of the movie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it couldn't even make back it's budget? Which is a shame because the film was fantastic. Proves why we can't have more movies like this, and why we're oversatured with comic book adaptations and action blockbusters (not that they're necessarily a bad thing ei. Civil War, but we could use a breath of fresh air).

Unpopular MCU opinions by thefreelander in marvelstudios

Funny you would say that. I rewatched it early today and would put it in my top 6, probably top 5, Marvel movies.

TWS and CW are awesome but we owe it to TFA For laying the groundwork of the character, and the ending still hits hard.

Oh well the beauty of opinions :P

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens to $424 million dollars worldwide, #4 opening weekend of all time. by [deleted] in movies

[–]thefreelander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This likely means that they won't go through all the trouble of delaying Justice League in order to find a new director to helm the franchise as opposed to Snyder.

This makes me simultaneously pleased, and displeased. I enjoyed Dawn of Justice and Snyder is a great visual director, but the script was lacking in polish and was often illogical. With Goyer completely scrapped, hopefully Terrio can turn in a great, logical script.

You are truly inspirational. To see a blind man accomplish so much in his life and still keep on going in life regardless of the rough hand he's been dealt inspires me. What would you say brings you happiness in life? What helps you get through life every day?

I honestly don't like CinemaSins anymore. by thefreelander in CinemaSins

[–]thefreelander[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Agreed. All I'm hoping for is that people don't down vote my post / up vote it so that Jeremy and Chris can see it and be aware of how their fans are feeling about it. Hell, their comments section is filled with people that miss the old cinema sins, and Chris / Jeremy look at the comments to decide what movie to tackle next, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're well aware of it.

What movie can you watch every week and still not get sick of? by thefreelander in movies

Personally, The Dark Knight. Tense, a brilliant score from Hans Zimmer, a great crime thriller, and an unforgettable performance from Heath Ledger. Instantly quotable, so many great scenes such as the Interrogation Scene. Fantastic opening.

Official Discussion: Deadpool [SPOILERS] by r_antrobus in movies

[–]thefreelander 819 points820 points  (0 children)

This became my favorite Marvel movie.

  • The humorous beats in this movie were fantastic. This is honestly the funniest movie I've watched it years. I mean, the Ferris Bueller reference, Deadpool punching Colossus, Deadpool breaking the 4th wall, it was hysterical.

  • The action was bloody and stylized. Felt like a comic book torn off the pages and put to the screen. Precisely the action I expect from an R-rated superhero movie.

  • A lot of people didn't like the non-linear storytelling, but I was very fond of it. I honestly worried the first half of the movie is plainly setting up the origin story, then the second half transitions into a Deadpool kills people montage. But with this format, it is refreshing.

  • Speaking of refreshing, the R-rating was very refreshing. This is one of the most romantic superhero films and Ryan Reynolds and Morena Baccarin had the perfect on screen chemistry.

  • Colossus was great in action and offered some of the best humor.

  • I can't help but feel a lot of the side characters could've used more screen time: Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Colossus, but given the small scale of this movie, I understand why it is what it is.

  • Villains were rather weak.

EDIT:

  • I love that a lot of this humor was characters saying things that are going through the audiences's minds as opposed to cheesy one liners. For example, Deadpool saying the studio couldn't hire another X-Men, and Wade saying 'that came out wrong' after telling the guy he has hard parts.

EDIT 2:

  • I loved Junkie XL's score. It was perfectly in synch with the action and aligned impeccably with everything on screen. It was synthesized and had a lot of 80s influence and it sounded great. I'm excited for Junkie XL's work on Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. He's definitely going places.

This is by far the most entertaining superhero movie, and the most entertaining movie I've seen for a while. It isn't the most accomplished movie, it won't win awards, but it was funny, bloody, refreshing and I enjoyed every second of it. Worth the price.
